1.1 SUMMARY
DESCRIPTION

A. The intent of these Specifications is to provide the Owner with a single source
of responsibility for the provision and installation of the Glazed Aluminum
Systems, Exterior Glass and Glazing, Skylights and Exterior Façade Sealants
as well as a coordinated installation of this work with other trades. Therefore
reference will be made in this and related Sections to “Exterior Wall
Contractor”, which will be the entity responsible for the Work as described
above and herein.

Owner and their representatives at all times. Such inspections do not relieve

application on any component of the exterior wall system. It is required that a
single source for silicone sealants be used on this project.

recognized limitations of wear and aging as indicated for each application.

F. Subcontractor shall submit detailed re-glaze procedures for the vision glass, and

A. Clean surfaces to which sealant must adhere using methods and materials
recommended by sealant manufacturer. Remove all temporary coatings, dust,

oil, grease, water, old caulking, loose materials and any other contaminants
which may affect bond.

B. Remove all loose particles present or resulting from grinding, abrading or blast
cleaning by blowing out joints with oil free compressed air or by vacuuming
joint prior to application of primer or sealant.

C. Remove protective coatings on metallic surfaces by a solvent that leaves no


residue. Use clean white cloths for cleaning with solvent and drying. Clean
joint areas protected with masking tape or strippable film with solvent after
removal of tape or film. Do not allow solvent to air-dry without wiping.

D. Prime surfaces, where required, with primer as recommended by sealant


manufacturer. Prime metals where moisture or joint movement occurs. Prime
all concrete and masonry surfaces, as required by sealant manufacturer.

E. Protect adjacent surfaces with masking tape to prevent staining and protect
surfaces which would be difficult to clean if smeared with primer or sealant.
Tape must be used in all locations unless agreed upon prior to application.
