WIND LOAD
All data presented here are parameters used for the calculation of windload.
Occupancy category: special occupancy structure. III
Basic Wind Speed: V=290 kph Reference:
From Table 207-1, wind zone for the different provinces of the Philippines of the NSCP
2010, Surigao del Sur is located at zone 2 having V=290 kph.

Importance Factor: Iw=1.0 Reference:

From Table 207-3, Importance Factor, Iw (Wind Loads) of NSCP 2010, the proposed
structure belongs to Category III having Iw=1.0; since the proposed structure is a mixed-use
residential and retail building which is a structure housing occupancy and having functions not
listed in Category I, II, III and V.

Exposure Category: Category C

Since the proposed structure will be located at an open terrain with scattered obstruction that are
less than 30 ft. high, then it may fall to category C.
Velocity Pressure Coefficient: Kh & Kz = 1.04
Category C (cases 1 & 2): Kz = 1.04
Height above Ground Level: 12m

PRELIMINARY DESIGN
CHAPTER IV – DESIGN CRITERIA AND PARAMETERS || 10

The design of structural element such as footing, column, beam and slab shown in this
sheet are only preliminary dimension assumed by the designer for the purpose of determination
of preliminary dead load carried by the beam for framework analysis. In addition, it also used for
the computation for structural details. The dimension shown can be change once there is failure,
to carry the desired loading occurs or even for economic reasons.

Slab Dimension:

 Second (2nd) Floor

Concrete slab thickness = 150mm
Note: This slab is poured monolithically to the beam.

 Roof Deck
Concrete slab thickness = 150mm
Bituminous surface (Asphalt) = 10mm
Note: Asphalt is used as coating for concrete only as adsorbent to water.

Beam Dimension:

 Second (2nd) Floor

Girder: 300 x 500 mm T - Beam (transverse direction)
Beam: 300 x 500 mm T - Beam (longitudinal direction)

Roof Deck Dimension:

Girder: 300 x 500 mm Rectangular Beam
