1 ANTS LEB02 ENCODER ASSEMBLE

1.1 ABOUT THIS MANUAL

This manual describes all the necessary adjustments need for programming controller ELCO Micro with ANTS
LEB02 absolute encoder & the complete installation for ANTS LEB02 encoder in the shaft.

1.2 GENERAL DESCRIPRTION

ANTS encoder is a measurement system consisting of an ANTS tape and a reading unit used to determine
the absolute car position. The ANTS tape can easily be installed by the provided ANTS ENCODER fixation kit.
It is fixed on both ends of the shaft and inserted into the reading device. The ANTS tape is made out of
stainless steel. Special sliding jaws made of a synthetic material with ideal sliding properties make sure that
the ANTS band stays in its position maintenance-free. ANTS encoder communicates with ELCO Micro main
board with can bus. ANTS BASIC can provide the absolute position for shaft height up to 392m and a speed
up to 8 m/s with a precision of 1 mm at any time – even after power failure, without new referencing.

1.9 ASSEMBLING OF THE ANTS TAPE

Use the clamping plates to fix one suspension device on the lift rail above the highest station.
Connect suspension device and ANTS tape by the carabiner hook.

The correct adjustment is essential for the proper function of the device!

The upper end of the 16 Bit ANTS tape can be identified by 15 big holes placed directly next to each other.

Also pay attention to the side-orientation of the holes. you can find a marking which
demonstrates the correct orientation on the reading device.

Mounting the Rail Fastening Plate in the Shaft Head

Fasten a rail fastening plate (suspension unit) with the clamping plates on the elevator rail above the
highest station. The fastening position must be chosen so as to exclude any damaging by the Ants
LEB02, the car or any part of the car. The screws must be tightened at a torque of 40 Nm so as to prevent any
slipping of the fastening plate.

Hooking in the Stainless Steel Band

Connect the suspension unit and the coded band with a carabiner. Proper orientation is important for the good
operation of the device. Do not take the coded band out of its box, unreel it from the box while the elevator
moves downwards. Also pay attention to the side orientation of the holes. A marking showing the proper
orientation can be found on the sensor.

Mounting the Rail Fastening Plate in the Shaft Pit

Proceed as follows:
1. Connect the coded band and the tension spring.
2. Now mount the second suspension unit on the elevator rail, at a distance of 30 ... 60 mm.
3. Tension the spring and hook it on the lower suspension unit .
4. Make sure that the carabiners are closed and oriented vertically.

Note that here too, any damage of the fastening caused by the car or any part of the car must be excluded.
The distance from the coded band to moving parts of the elevator must be at least 50 mm in any position.

EL.CO Micro Programming Parameters

The coded band may only be cut to the proper length with a suitable tool, e.g. tin snips.
The rest of the coded band cut off on site may not be reused and must be discarded.

The distance between the coded tape end and the next large hole must
be at the minimum 5 mm and at the maximum 15 mm.

1.10 DIRECTION OF THE ANTS TAPE

The tape should be mounted as vertically and straight as possible. A slight curvature of the measurement tape
has no impact on the result, attention only has to be paid on the aluminum rail which has to be inserted from
top to bottom.

In addition the tape should be directed straight through the reading device to avoid an abrasion of the sliding
jaws.

Please note that ANTS encoder is already equipped with a terminating resistor 120Ω for
CAN bus.

In control panels with VVVF the connection cable between control panel and motor must
be shield. In case that the shield cable is not grounded or don’t use shield cable maybe
the movement of the car will stop and start without record any error.

In the travelling cable between control panel and car

1.12 MAINTENANCE

The coded band and the sensor must be cleaned at every regular maintenance of the
elevator (at least once a year). The fastenings are to be checked for proper and firm
seating. The tension of the spring must be checked. In the course of regular elevator
maintenance, proceed as follows:

1. Make sure that the coded band is properly guided between the
slides.

2. Check the slides for excessive wear or soiling. If necessary, replace

them. Also pay attention to the second slide inside of the reading
device. Remove it carefully using a screwdriver if necessary. If
necessary, the slide can be turned once in order to use the second
slot to guide the coded band.

3. Clean the sensor to remove dust accumulation.

4. Check the coded band for dirt, damages and foreign bodies.

5. Check the tight and proper seating of the coded band fastening
plates and of the sensor fastening.

6. Check the tension of the coded band based on the extension of the
spring.

7. Clean the coded band, by removing the dirt with a cloth during an
inspection run.

Do not use a cloth that would leave dirt such as lint in the holes.
In the event of unrecoverable defects, the facility shall no longer
be operated. In case of doubt, contact the manufacturer.

1.13 REPLACEMENT OF COMPONENTS

The slides of the Ants LEB02 can easily and quickly be replaced if necessary. To do so,
push the locking spring to the side until the slides are free and can be pulled out. Take care
not to bend the locking spring out of shape. Remove first the slide located besides the
opening in the housing. Then the internal slide can be removed. If necessary, use flat
pliers/a screwdriver. Take care not to damage the coded band. If the coded band is
damaged, it must be replaced. When installing the slides, mount first the internal slide,
and then the external one. Make sure that the coded band lies exactly in the slots of the
guides and that the locking spring is not damaged. If the locking spring has been slightly
deformed, it must be put back in shape or bent so that, when the slides are mounted, this
locking spring is lying over the slides and can hold them in place. The locking spring shall
not show any trace of break.
