1. Determine whether each of the following statement is true or false.

2. Given that U = {x : 1  x  10, x is an integer} , A = {x : x is a prime number} and


B = {x : x is an odd integer and multiple of 3}
a. Determine the elements of U, A, and B.
U = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10}
A = {2, 3, 5, 7}
B = {3, 9}

b. Show that ( A  B) = A  B .


(A ∩ B)' = {2, 5, 7, 9}
A' is the complement of A,
which means it contains all the elements in U that are not in A.
Since A = {2, 3, 5, 7}, A' contains all the elements in U except for 2, 3, 5, and 7.

B' is the complement of B,


which means it contains all the elements in U that are not in B. S
ince B = {3, 9}, B' contains all the elements in U that are not multiples of 3 or are even.

c. Find A  B 
A ∩ B' = {2, 5, 7}

d. Find the cardinality of power set of B, n [ P( B)] .


n[P(B)], is 2^2 = 4.
3. Given U = {x: x is a positive integer less than or equal to 10}, A = {x: x is an even multiple of
3}, B = {x: x is an even integer}
a. Determine the elements of U, A, and B.
U are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
A are: 6, 12, 18.
B are: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10.

b. List the elements of the set A  B .

A' ∩ B = {2}

c. Find the power set P (A).


P(A) = { {}, {6}, {12}, {18}, {6,12}, {6,18}, {12,18}, {6,12,18}}

d. Find the cardinality of power set of B, n [ P( B)] .


B, n[P(B)], is 2^5 = 32

4. An advertising agency finds that, of its 170 clients, 115 use Television, 110 use Radio and 130
use Magazines. Also 85 use Television and Magazines, 75 use Television and Radio, 95 use
Radio and Magazines, 70 use all three. Draw a Venn diagram to represent the given data above.

5. In a group of university students, 65 play football, 45 play hockey, 42 play cricket, 20 play
football and hockey, 25 play football and cricket, 15 play hockey and cricket, and 8 play all
the three games. Draw a Venn diagram to represent the above data.
