Research tasks for FMP logo design

Section 1 of 3: TYPOGRAPHY.

You can use sites such as Dafont for examples or ones which are on the system you are
currently using. Be mindful that too many unusual choices together can be quite
offputting for an audience, so think about how they can compliment, rather than argue
with each other...

Task 1/4. Select 3 typefaces/fonts you might like to use for your PRIMARY choice. This would
be the one you will build your logo from.Describe the DENOTATION (style/appearance) and
CONNOTATION (meaning which could be inferred). Support the suggested inference with at
least one example.

Choice
1:

Reasons I like this appearance of this font as the 8 bit style of it can infer to people
: looking at it that this would be themed around gaming.
Choice
2:

Reasons The bold style of this font is very good as it pushes past the fun that games are
: known for and looks to be more serious like the show aims to be.
Choice
3:

Reasons The choppiness of the font mixed with the boldness makes for a balance
: between both serious but also playfulness that can come with the show.

Task 2/4. Select 3 typefaces/fonts you might like to use for your SECONDARY choice. This
could be used for support within a logo or a strap line. Describe the DENOTATION
(style/appearance) and CONNOTATION (meaning which could be inferred). Support the
suggested inference with at least one example.

Choice 1:

Reasons: I think this supports the big bold style most of my primary fonts have.
Further implies that this podcast is serious and well focused.
Choice 2:

Reasons: Going back to the first design choice this very old font design of 8 bit could
work well as a secondary font to fit with the themes of the show. It shows
the viewers that it is always going to be gaming focused.
Choice 3:
Reasons: I like this font as it can work well for a multitude of things like a title card,
transition and shows of the podcasts seriousness. Makes it seem more
professional and roughness and big words fit well to my desired target
audience

Task 3/4. Select 3 typefaces/fonts you might like to use for your BODY COPY choice. This is
the writing which could contain sentences or even paragraphs. Describe the DENOTATION
(style/appearance) and CONNOTATION (meaning which could be inferred). Support the
suggested inference with at least one example.

Choice 1:

Reasons: I like this Body Font as I think it will fit well with the themes of my podcast as
well the slight tilt in the text could connote the fast paced feeling players get
when playing games. Fonts similar to this is that of the Back to the future logo
as it has the same tilt and also shows to the future the speed that is present in
the film.

Task 4/4 When you’ve done these, pick your final three and state them below, with a screen
capture of them and your reasons for selection...

FINAL PRIMARY FONT CHOICE

NAME:

REASONS I like the bold text with this font as it connotes the seriousness that some of
FOR CHOICE the topics within the podcast bring it also just looks much more appealing
(connotation
and
then a lot of the pixelated text some of the other font choices I had.
denotation):

FINAL SECONDARY FONT CHOICE

NAME:

REASONS FOR I like this as a secondary as it works well with my primary creating a decent
CHOICE flow between fonts, this makes it so one looks all serious while the other
(connotation
and
is a pixelated, upbeat/goofy font which I think contrasts the idea of having
denotation): a matching font theme, I also find this one to be better as it’s very smooth
with its use of sans serif
FINAL BODY COPY FONT CHOICE
NAME:

REASONS I like this body font as it matches up perfectly with the previous two but has
FOR CHOICE a more fast paced feel with it small slants in the text, this I feel fits well with
(connotatio
n and
the Podcast the font is very similar to that of the text of Back to the future’s
denotation): logo, the future being one of my topics of my podcast making this a perfect
fit for my themes.
Section 2 of 3: COLOUR THEORY.

Think about how the colour wheel (and also by extension the colour sphere) can be
exploited to build a good colour scheme for your branding. You can also use image colour
scheme builders for this task (Trev will show you how to use these).

Your colour scheme could have at least three main components to it and also consider it
against different backgrounds, with outlines and so on.

Select THREE colour schemes based on the information above, before settling on a final
one as a prime brand for your channel and talk about why you chose it (what connotation
might it have, for example).

Task 1/2: Place three SETS of colours that you like in the boxes below, based on using the
links above. Talk about why you like them and what they could mean to an audience.

Colour scheme 1
(screenshot):

Connotation The dark green and light greens are very good and is a possibility for
(reason/meaning) my Logo the mix of green and dark green is very similar to the matrix
: logo which my logo will be taking inspiration from.
Colour scheme 2
(screenshot):

Connotation Another colour scheme I like quite a bit is the mix of blues as they fit
(reason/meaning) together pretty good and can create a unique designs for logo. Also
: the connotations of the colour blue usually means trustworthy
meaning that my video could be seen as legitimate.
Colour scheme 3
(screenshot):

Connotation This colour scheme fits in between both of them well. The difference
(reason/meaning) between red and blue works well as it is a constant theme in gaming
: from even the older generations. Red usually meaning your enemies
and blue being your team.
