CHAPTER III
METHODOLOGY
This chapter contains the research design, research locale, selected participants, research

instruments used, data gathering procedure, data analysis and ethical consideration employed.

Research design

A phenomenological design was used in this qualitative study delineated the effectiveness of

teaching the Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) in Mandaue City

Central Elementary School. It shows how we conduct our research in this study upon following

the procedures from selection of the study area to data analysis. This research design helps in

showing the significance of Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) in

Mandaue City Central Elementary School.

Research locale

Mandaue City Central Elementary School is located along Catalino LL. Ouano, Centro,

Mandaue City, Cebu. The school was formerly known as East Central Elementary School. It

started off with the construction of two concrete school buildings sometime in 1960’s and in

1963 building C was constructed in order to accommodate more school children. Mandaue City

Central school is the oldest school in Mandaue City in the Philippines, it occupies a school site

with an area of more than 20,000 square meters.

Participants

There will be at least 10 participants through the use of stratified sampling method. Selected

participants needs to follow the criteria: (1) ages from 20-45 (2) a minimum years of experience

of three years Selected in teaching. These criteria will serve as the guide in conducting these

research study in order to aim our goal and perspectives.

Research Instruments

The researchers made an interview schedule guide using unstructured interview as a primary

data collection instrument for this study. Some teachers of Mandaue City Central Elementary

School were interviewed specifically the grade 1,2 and 3 teachers. Personal information were

also asked including the name, age, gender, years of working in that school and the significance

of teaching Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE). Questionaires were

highly conduct and validated by experts. The interview was done using phones and laptops for

audio recording and taking down some important details.

Data Gathering Procedure

Preliminary procedure. A letter of permissions were given to us by our subject teacher to

conduct the study and also the letter of approval by the participants. The researchers also asked

permission in Mandaue City Central Elementary School to do the research study in the particular

place.

Data Collection. The interview is conducted through face-to-face interaction to ensure that

everything is being followed based on the criteria given. The researchers also make sure to only

get the needed information and utilize the questions being asked.

Data Analysis

Every detail given by the participants is clearly tallied and been recorded. By the authority

given to us we are able to conduct our research study in Mandaue City Central School with peace

and vigilance. The recorded and tallied answers by the participants has been heard and we make

sure to only write what they have stated. Our phenomenological analysis is being based on how

important the Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) in primary schools.

Ethical Consideration

In conducting the study, the researchers were given full consent. Informed consent was

categorized to the informants of this study. The privacy of any information were highly

confidential and protected.
