A Detailed Lesson Plan in MATHEMATICS 6

I. Objective
A. Content Standard
The students demonstrates understanding of rate and speed, and of area and
surface area of plane and solid/space figures.
B. Performance Standard
The students should be able to apply knowledge of speed, area, and surface area
of plane and solid/space figures in mathematical problem and real-life situations.
C. Learning Competency
At the end of this discussion at least 80% of the learners should be able to:
 Recall the meaning of speed, distance, and time

Developmental Activities
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting
the new lesson
It is all about calculate distance, speed
Class what was our previous lesson all and time teacher.
about?

Very Good!
So, this time we will continue our lesson
yesterday.

B. Establishing a Purpose for the new

lesson
Now, find your partner.
The students find their partner.
I will give you 2 minutes to discuss the
meaning of time, distance and speed.

Did you understand? Yes teacher.

It is just a short review if you and your

partner have listened to the discussion
yesterday.
Yes teacher.
Are you ready?
The timer starts now.
C. Presenting example/ instance of the new
lesson
Again, what is distance? It is the total length between two
positions.
Alright,
How about time? It is the quantity measures or measurable
period during which an action, process,
or condition exists or continues.
And the last one speed. It is a scalar quantity that refers to “how
fast an object is moving”. Speed can be
thought of as rate by which an object
covers distance.
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing
new skill #1
Now lets continue our discussion
yesterday.
We stop on solving for speed right?

How can we solve for the speed again in By using the formula
the given google map? Speed=Distance/time

Or S=D/T
So
Speed= 34 kilometers/44 minutes
= 0.77 kpm or 0.77 km/min

So, the speed in travelling Mexico to

Bacolor Pampanga is 0.77 kpm.
Next is solve for the distance.
It is the product of time spent in travelling
and speed of the object. By using the formula Distance= Time x
Speed.
How can we solve for the distance?

Alright, or we can simply used

D=TxS.
For time
D is for distance. Speed teacher.
T is?
And S for?

Very Good.

Let say for example the distance that you

will travel if you will drive for 3.5 hours at
75 km/h. D=N
Time=3.5 h
What is the given? Speed=75km/h

The students try to solve for the distance.

Now, can you solve using the given
formula in your scratch paper. The students raise their hands.

Who wants to solve in front? D=TxS

=3.5h x 75km/h
Princess Ann. D= 262.5km

Okey so, that’s correct. 262.5 km

What is the Distance?

Another example, calculate the distance
that you will travel if you will drive for 4.3
hours at 60 km/h. The students raise their hands.

Who wants to solve in the board? D=TxS

=4.3h x 60 km/h
Okey Lavigne. D = 258km

So the distance is 258 km.

Let’s move on in solving the time.

It is the ratio between the distance
travelled and speed.
By using the formula Time =
Okey. Distance/Speed
Next how can we solve for time?

Or T = D/S
Now lets try an example.
A bus traveled 252 kilometers at 72 km/h.
How long does it travel? 252 km
Missing numbers teacher.
What is the given? 72 km/h
Distance?
How about time?
And the speed is?

So the solution is T=D/S

=252KM/72km/hr
And the answer is T=3.5h Yes teacher.

Did you already understand how to

calculate speed, distance and time?
E. Discussing new concepts and practicing Speed Time Distance
new skill #2. 75km/h 3h 225km
Now go to your group yesterday. 10m/s 20 sec 200 m
Then complete the table by computing for 65km/h 6h 390 km
the missing distance, speed and time. 86 km/h 5.5 h 473 km
Speed Time Distance 9.3 km/h 8h 74.4km
75km/h 3h
20 sec 200 m
65km/h 390 km
5.5 h 473 km Key answer
9.3 km/h 8h
F. Developing Mastery
Read and solve the following problems.
Write your answer and complete
solution on your answer sheet. Key answer
1. Find the speed when a distance of 142 1. 71 kph
km and time is covered in 2 hours. 2. 5 km
2. Nancy rides her horse with a constant 3. 168 km
speed of 10 km per hour. How far can 4. 9 hours
she travel in 3 hours. 5. 1 ½ hrs
3. A police car drives with a constant
speed of 10 km per hour. How far can
it travel in 3 hours.
4. How much time will be taken to cover
a distance of 450 km at a speed of 50
km per hour?
5. A man runs at the speed of 15 km per
hour. How long will he take to cover
75 kilometers.
G. Finding Practical Application of
Concepts and skills in daily living
Why is it important for us to know how to
calculate speed, distance and time? It may help us to know how long should
we travel to arrive on the places we want
to go.
That’s right.
There are some cases that everytime we
have important meeting or something we
need to do we maximize our time.

This is called Time management.

Let say for example when we are going to

school.
Your house is far from the school then you
wake up in the morning at 7:20 am. Your
things are not yet prepared. Your not
taking a bath yet. Then you still need to
walked. Do you think your not going to We’re going to school late teacher.
school late?

That’s right,

That’s why we need to manage our time or

we have time management.
Yes teacher.
Is that clear?
H. Making Generalization and abstraction
about the lesson
Again, how can we solve to get the total length
or a distance? D=TxS

Very good.

How about to get the speed? S=D/T

Great!

How about time? T= D/S

Okey, Did you get how to solve distance,

speed and time? Yes teacher.
I. Evaluating
