IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or PRAYER
presenting the new lesson T. Before we start on our lesson, let us pray first.
(Everyone will close their eyes and bow their heads)
ATTENDANCE
T. Okay, class. Let me check your attendance.
(Students will raise their hands and say present as the
teacher calls their name)

REVIEW
T. Before we start on our lesson, let review first our previous
lesson. So, what was the topic we had?
S. It’s Solving Routine and Non- Routine Problems Involving
Numerical/Algebraic Expressions and Equations.
T. Very good. So, can you guys tell me what is the solution of
an equation?
S. A solution of an algebraic equation is a number that makes
the sentence true.
T. Great! Let us have a short activity for our last meeting,
okay?

Solve each problem.

1. Twice a number increased by 24, the result is 60. What
is the number?
S. m=18
2. Nine less than thrice a number is 33, What is the
number?
S. x= 14

T. Good job class!

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson T. It is good to know that you understand our previous lesson.
I hope that you understand too our today’s lesson. So, our
lesson for today is all about is calculating speed, distance and
time.
S. Okay, ma’am.
C. Presenting examples/ instances of the T. Before we start our discussion let us have a short group
new lesson activity.
T. Please count 1-2-3 to form a three group for we will be
having an activity, please start.

T. Kindly choose your group leader likewise your secretary.

T. For this group activity, you will write S if it is for speed, D

if it is for distance and T if it is for time.

T. I will only give you 2 minutes to talk among yourselves

then the presentation will immediately follow.

T. Group 1,2 and 3 form a line.

T. The leader will be the first to answer followed by the

secretary and the member.

T. Is the instruction clear?

T. Are you now ready?

S. Yes, ma’am

T. You may now start

(After two minutes...)

T. Please start answering the question in the board.

S:
T. Very good presentation group 1, 2 and 3. Let us, give one
another a “very good clap”.

(The teacher will facilitate the discussion through asking

questions by posting the visual aids and will be letting them
express their thoughts about speed, distance and time)

T. What did you observe in our activity?

S. It’s all about speed, distance and time.

T. What is speed, distance and time?

S. Speed is fast or slow moving, distance is the far or near of

the place and time is the happening hour, minute or second

T. Is it important? why?

S. We need to study this because it is in everywhere so we

need to be aware in our surroundings.

T. Good job! Let us find out what is speed, distance and time
really mean, are you now ready?
S. Yes, ma’am
D. Discussing new concepts and (The teacher will now discuss)
practicing new skills #1
Speed
- Speed is a scalar quantity that refers to “how fast an
object is moving.”
- Speed can be thought of as the rate by which an object
covers distance.

Example: If a car travels 100 kilometers in 2 hours, find the

speed

T. With the help of our magic three we can find the equation
easily.

Speed = distance / time

Let us write the given from the problem

Given:
D= 100km
T= 2 hrs
S=?

S= d / t
S= 100km / 2hrs
S= 50 km/hr

Example 2: Find the speed when, distance is 280 km and the

time is 4 hours.

Given:
D= 280
T= 4 hours

S= d/ t
S=- 280km / 4 hrs
S= 70 km/hr

T. Good job!

T. What is the importance of speed?

S. The importance of speed is to make our work faster and we

can go to the place in a short of time like going to the school, I
walk fast to arrive on time.

T. Great job, let us now move on to our next topic.

T.

Distance
- Distance is the total length between two positions.
- Distance is the amount of space between two objects or
the state of being far apart.

Equation: D= S x T

Example 1: A family travelled from Batangas to Quezon City

at a speed of 60km/h for a total of 2 hours. How far did they
travel?

Given:
S= 60km/hr
T= 2 hrs
D=?

D= s x t
D= 60km/hr x 2 hrs
D= 120 km

Example 2: Calculate the distance that you will drive for 3

hours at 70 km/h.

Given:
S= 70km/hr
T= 3 hrs
D=?

D= s x t
D= 70km/hr x 3hrs
D= 210 km

T. What is the importance of distance?

S. The distance is important to know if the place we wanted to

go is far or near. Example going to school if you are near you
just need to walk to save a money

T. Well, done! Before we move to our lesson do we have any

questions?

S. (Student will answer)

E. Discussing new concepts and T.
practicing new skills #2
Time
- Time is the quantity measured or measurable period
during which an action, process, or condition exists or
continues.

Equation: T= d / s

Example 1: How long does it take to travel 180 kilometers at

45 km/h?

Given:
D= 180 kilometer
S= 45 km/h
T=?

T= d / s
T= 180km/ 45km/h
T= 4 hrs.

It takes 4 hours to travel 180km.

Example2: Wilson can type 840 words in 20 minutes.

Calculate his typing speed in;
a. words per minute b. words per hour

a. Given:
D= 840 words
S= 20 minutes
T=?

T= d / s
T= 840 words / 20 mins
T= 42 words per minute

In 1 hour, we have 60 minutes, so

b. T= 42 words x 60min
T= 2,520 words per hour

T. What is the importance of time?

S. The time is very important to guide us on what we are doing

and we need to use it properly because time is gold. Example if
you have an assignment or project do it immediately to use
your time wisely.
F. Developing mastery (Leads to The teacher will show a diagram:
Formative Assessment 3)

T. What is the diagram show?

S. The diagram shows that to easily remember the formula in

getting speed, distance and time.

Distance= speed x time

Speed= distance / time
Time= distance / speed

T. Excellent!

T. Do you have a question?

S. None sir

T. Let us now proceed to our next activity.

G. Finding practical applications of Ask students to cite instances in life where the insights from
concepts and skills in daily living the material viewed are applicable.
 What is the importance of calculating speed, distance,
and time?
H. Making generalizations and (The teacher will ask the students about the following)
abstractions about the lesson - What I have learned
- How will you apply to yourself the things that you
have learned?
