Technology to the Generation Z

PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction
Technology is the application of scientific knowledge
to the practical aims of human life. In today’s generation,
there’s no denying that technology such as phones, laptops,
and computers becomes a significant part in the lives of
many people. But some are still wondering how these
technologies affects learning and what are the positive and
negative consequences of it.

With the introduction to our daily lives, electronic

gadgets like cell phones, laptops, and computers are widely
and unrestrictedly used tools. It is one of the major
phenomena in the last decade. However, their healthy
adoptive use progressively gave place to their excessive use
and lack of control. Overuse has a severe impact on the
lives of youth in their academic performance.

Adolescents and adults have various purposes to find

information (Budiharto et al., 2020). Gadgets include being
a means of facilitating long-distance communication with
other people, both between cities and abroad, and can also
be used as information media for learning (Warsita
Fatimatuz, 2018). But most people now cannot even control
themselves to use the gadgets and instead, it has an impact
that is not good for their lives. Warsita (Fatimatuz, 2018).

In today’s Era, the Enhancement of new technology really

cause an impact on the young generation, and also technology
has change the world in every field of life. The questions
that could asked: How is Technology Affecting the Younger
Generations today and what will be the future contribution
of youth in the society by using modern technology.
Technology has drastically evolved over the past few
decades; we’ve seen the inception of mobile phones, social
media platforms, electric cars and artificial intelligence
to say the least. Millennials (born between 1981 and 1996)
have grown up in an ever-evolving digital landscape whilst
the digitally-native Gen-Z (born between 1997 and 2012) have
never known a world without smartphones. Technology has
brought about both advantages and disadvantages, we explore
the impact it’s had on these generations.

Technological advancements over the past few decades

have had an immense impact on the generations that grew up
in them. Naturally, millennials are technologically
proficient. During their lives, technology has been
constantly evolving which has created flexible and adaptable
individuals. In contrast, Gen-Z are digital natives who’ve
had technology at their fingertips since birth and never
known a world without it. Although technology has many
positive results, constant connection to smartphones could
be causing both short-term and long-term health
implications. In 2005, only 12% of young adults had a social
media account. Fast forward to today and shockingly that
figure has now increased to 90%.

Technology plays an ever-growing role in making our

lives simple and advanced. Almost 70% of the positive and
negative consequences of technology are faced by today’s
youth because they have increased access to modern
technology in comparison with the rest of all.

Today’s younger generation is also called as Digital

generation because modern technology is either making them
smarter or making them dumb depending upon the usage made by
them. Some people ask about the effects of technology in
millennial generation. There is also great impact of
technology on generation z. Technology is creating a huge
generation gap and each generation is different and unique
from that of the previous one only due to the rapid
advancements in the field of technology.

Technology has enabled our young generation to pursue

their goals and opened up the paths of success for them.
Thus, by the technology it will be the source of
information, entertainment, and distraction all at the same
time, and each has direct effect on youth development.
Therefore, the purpose of this study is to determine the
negative and positive consequences of technology and find
out what would be the possible effect of technology to the
Generation Z.
