1. How is information technology affecting our lives, globally?

Technology for sure is advancing each and every day. From calculators to engines, engines to
computers, computers to laptops, and so much more. The revolution of technology has changed
the world over the years making lives easier and there is no surprise that the influence or change
in the economy is drastic. In accordance with a known president of the United States, the new
economy’s engine is none other than technology (Clinton, B., 2000). Starting off with education,
dissemination of information through the internet is fast and can be accessed by many using
websites. Countries all over the world are also including information technology in their
curriculum. Businesses and Job offers are also increased since communication has never been
this easy. In the past years, a lot of researchers studied the influence of technology on individual
workers, organization and industries, market places and wages. (Tushman and Henderson, 1986;
Bartel and Sicherman, 1998, 1999). This shows that information technology has affected
communities, countries and has transformed economies.

2. How is information technology affecting our lives, in society?

Information Technology has always been associated with the word “communication”. Different
gadgets made by technology has helped mankind with ease and this leads to the usage of
technology every day but this has a positive and negative effect in our lives. Social relationships
have been affected by the availability of communication and we are able to connect with our
loved ones and even people from other countries all over the world via emails, texts, videocalls,
and etc. It also offers us entertainment and according to the latest poll by the National Sleep
Foundation (Kathleen Doyen,2011), devices made our life easier and more entertaining often
makes us sleepier and I couldn’t agree more that we often use these electronic devices before
bedtime. Information Technology indeed has a lot to offer for the society to benefit and due to
this, there are also downsides. Based on different studies, Obesity and usage of TV’s are now
common among adults and adolescents because they lack in leisure physical activities.
(Schneider, Genevieve, and Cooper, 2007). Technology often has radiation which makes us at
risk of different health problems including our eyesight. Good or bad, we can’t argue that
information technology will still develop the society making it more advanced but we should
also take consideration of the negative effects it might give.

3. How is information technology affecting our lives, and in the current era?
Change is indeed inevitable and the only thing in this world that is permanent. Technology has
changed our lives and in fact, we usually can’t last a day without using it. Technology is much
used today than the past decades and even people at a young age can be knowledgeable about the
different electronic devices we are using today. The term “Millennial” has become known to this
era and studies suggests that these students share unique characteristics that define their
generation. Millennials love to be engaged in their learnings and they are not passive learners.
Thus, Instructors and teachers must have right technologies that will be part of the students
learning. These technologies include mobile phones, laptop, computers and the internet. (Howe
and Strauss, 2003). The Covid-19 pandemic has also affected the lives of the people throughout
the world and by this, people relied more on gadgets to talk with their far loved ones when the
quarantine period happened. With the help of technology, the education was not stopped and
online classes are introduced. The economy of the world was mostly affected but with the
internet, almost anything is possible and people still pulled through with their businesses online.
Information Technology affects the current era with the advancement it gives making it an
essential for the digital era and for the future eras.
