Course Title: Quantitative Analysis I

Course Code: C C M A 4 0 0 1

Aims and Objective

This course is designed to provide students with an introduction to statistical knowledge as applied to
business and daily situations and to equip them with the essential skills to identify and apply appropriate
techniques to solve problems. Students will be exposed to concepts such as sampling techniques,
graphical presentations, statistical measures, counting rules and classical probability distribution.

Intended Learning Outcomes of the Course

On completion of the course, students should be able to

ILO1. distinguish between population and sample; apply the different sampling techniques to
select a sample;
ILO2. compute central tendency measures as the arithmetic mean, median and mode;
ILO3. compute dispersion measures as the range, interquartile range, standard deviation and variance;
ILO4. define probability of a simple event; correctly use the concepts of conditional, independent,
mutually exclusive events, and apply the multiplication and addition rules to perform
probability computations;
ILO5. compute binomial and Poisson probabilities, the expected value and standard deviation of a
binomial and Poisson experiment;
ILO6. compute probabilities for a normal distribution and determine normal scores from specific
probability requirements.
