Medical Treatment

Medical treatment means the management and care of a patient to combat disease or disorder. Medical
treatment includes: All treatment not otherwise excluded (below). Using prescription medications, or use
of a non-prescription drug at prescription strength.

What are examples of medical treatments?

Examples of body therapies include: Chiropractic and osteopathic medicine. Massage. Body


movement therapies.

Why is medical treatment important?

 Medical care has several important functions other than restoring or maintaining health.
These other functions are assessment and certification of health status, prognostication,
segregation of the ill to limit communication of illness, and helping to cope with the
problems of illness--the caring function.

What is the difference between first aid and medical treatment?

(i) First aid treatment is limited to a single soaking or application of cold compresses, and
follow-up visits if they are limited only to observation. (ii) Medical treatment includes multiple
soakings, draining of collected blood, or other treatment beyond observation.
Is first aid medical treatment?
First aid refers to medical attention that is usually administered immediately after the injury
occurs and at the location where it occurred. It often consists of a one-time, short-term treatment
and requires little technology or training to administer.

Medical treatment program means a treatment program based on a successful medical model that has
been proven to reduce recidivism, and that may include treatment by prescribed medication when
recommended by a qualified psychiatrist or physician, psychological treatment, or both. Any
treatment administered under a medical treatment program must be within the range of treatments
generally recognized as acceptable within the medical community. Sample 1 Based on 1 documents

examination and treatment by a Legally Qualified Physician for a condition which first manifested
itself, worsened or became acute or had symptoms which would have prompted reasonable person to
seek diagnosis, care or treatment.

Individual Treatment Plan means a Treatment plan prepared or approved by the Member's
Participating Physician with specific attainable goals and objectives appropriate to both the Members
and the Treatment modality of the program.

Neurophysiological Treatment means interventions that focus on the functions of the nervous system.

Neurobehavioral Treatment means interventions that focus on behavior and the variables that control
behavior.

Qualified residential treatment program means a program that (i) provides 24-hour residential
placement services for children in foster care; (ii) has adopted a trauma-informed treatment model
that meets the clinical and other needs of children with serious emotional or behavioral disorders,
including any clinical or other needs identified through assessments conducted pursuant to clause
(viii) of this definition; (iii) employs registered or licensed nursing and other clinical staff who
provide care, on site and within the scope of their practice, and are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week; (iv) conducts outreach with the child's family members, including efforts to maintain
connections between the child and his siblings and other family; documents and maintains records of
such outreach efforts; and maintains contact information for any known biological family and fictive
kin of the child; (v) whenever appropriate and in the best interest of the child, facilitates participation
by family members in the child's treatment program before and after discharge and documents the
manner in which such participation is facilitated; (vi) provides discharge planning and family-based
aftercare support for at least six months after discharge; (vii) is licensed in accordance with 42 U.S.C.
§ 671(a)(10) and accredited by an organization approved by the federal Secretary of Health and
Human Services; and (viii) requires that any child placed in the program receive an assessment
within 30 days of such placement by a qualified individual that (a) assesses the strengths and needs
of the child using an age-appropriate, evidence-based, validated, and functional assessment tool
approved by the Commissioner of Social Services; (b) identifies whether the needs of the child can
be met through placement with a family member or in a foster home or, if not, in a placement setting
authorized by 42 U.S.C. § 672(k)(2), including a qualified residential treatment program, that would
provide the most effective and appropriate level of care for the child in the least restrictive
environment and be consistent with the short-term and long-term goals established for the child in his
foster care or permanency plan; (c) establishes a list of short-term and long-term mental and
behavioral health goals for the child; and (d) is documented in a written report to be filed with the
court prior to any hearing on the child's placement pursuant to § 16.1-281, 16.1-282, 16.1-282.1, or
16.1-282.2.

Psychophysiological treatment means interventions designed to alleviate or decrease abnormal


physiological responses of the nervous system due to behavioral or emotional factors.

Thermal treatment means the treatment of hazardous waste in a device which uses elevated
temperatures as the primary means to change the chemical, physical, or biological character or
composition of the hazardous waste. Examples of thermal treatment processes are incineration,
molten salt, pyrolysis, calcination, wet air oxidation, and microwave discharge. (See also
“incinerator” and “open burning”.)

Neuropsychological Treatment means interventions designed to improve or minimize deficits in


behavioral and cognitive processes.

Medical Marijuana Treatment Center means a “not-for-profit entity, as defined by Massachusetts law
only, registered by the Department of Public Health, that acquires, cultivates, possesses, processes
(including development of related products such as food, tinctures, aerosols, oils or ointments),
transfers, transports, sells, distributes, dispenses, or administers marijuana, products containing
marijuana, related supplies, or educational materials to qualifying patients or their personal
caregivers.” Residential treatment facility means a facility or group home with more than eight (8)
beds designated by the Department of Juvenile Justice or the cabinet for the treatment of children;

Dental Treatment means a treatment related to teeth or structures supporting teeth including
examinations, fillings (where appropriate), crowns, extractions and surgery.

Behavioral health treatment BHT”)” means professional services and treatment programs, including
applied behavior analysis and evidence-based behavior intervention programs that develop or restore,
to the maximum extent practicable, the functioning of an individual with pervasive developmental
disorder or autism, and that meet all of the following criteria:

Medically Necessary Treatment means any treatment, tests, medication, or stay in hospital or part of

Residential Treatment Center for Children and Adolescents means a child-care institution that
provides residential care and treatment for emotionally disturbed children and adolescents and that is
accredited as a residential treatment center by the Council on Accreditation, the Joint Commission on
Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, or the American Association of Psychiatric Services for
Children.

Medication-assisted treatment or "MAT" means the use of pharmacologic therapy, often in


combination with counseling and behav- ioral therapies, for the treatment of substance use disorders.

Post-Acute Care Treatment Services means services provided after acute care confinement and/or
treatment that are based on an assessment of the Member’s physical, behavioral, or cognitive
functional deficits, which include a treatment goal of achieving functional changes by reinforcing,
strengthening, or re-establishing previously learned patterns of behavior and/or establishing new
patterns of cognitive activity or compensatory mechanisms.

Chemical Dependency Treatment Center means a facility which is a Participating Provider and,
which provides a program for the Treatment of chemical dependency pursuant to a written Treatment
plan approved and monitored by a Participating Physician and which facility is also:
OPD treatment means the one in which the Insured visits a clinic / hospital or associated facility like
a consultation room for diagnosis and treatment based on the advice of a Medical Practitioner. The
Insured is not admitted as a day care or in-patient.

Outpatient Day Treatment Services means structured services provided to address deficits in
physiological, behavioral, and/or cognitive functions. Such services may be delivered in setting that
include transitional residential, community integration, or non-residential treatment settings.

Outpatient treatment means mental health or substance abuse treatment services rendered to a

and Finished Product Purchase Agreement effective January 1, 2002, between Dynegy Liquids
Marketing and Trade ("DLMT") as "Purchaser" and Dynegy Midstream Services, Limited
Partnership ("DMSLP"), as "Seller".

Inpatient treatment means any medical treatment rendered to the Insured at a Hospital in connection
with any Injury or Illness resulting in Hospitalization. Treatment plan means a plan to treat an autism
spectrum disorder that is prescribed by a licensed physician or licensed psychologist and may be
developed pursuant to a comprehensive evaluation in coordination with a licensed behavior analyst.

Maltreatment means the neglect, abuse, or financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult.
