2. Literary Criticism and Literary Theory

3. Traditional Literary Theories and Newer Theories to literary criticism.

CHECK YOUR UNDERSTANDING
1. What are the genres mentioned in this lesson? Among them which one interests you the most? Explain
why.
- The genres mentioned were illustrated novels, Digi-fiction, Manga, Doodle Fiction, and Cell Phone
novel. Among them, I am most interested in the Cell Phone novel. As a person who always uses a
cellphone, I enjoy this kind of literature. You will not bother to bring a book outside to entertain yourself
because you can read stories and novels on your mobile phone.

2. How can you distinguish an illustrated novel from a graphic novel?

- An Illustrated Novel is a story or narrative told using words and illustrated graphics. Most illustrated
fiction presents 50% of the story without words, others may not have any text, so the reader must
interpret the images to appreciate the plot. Graphic novels are storylines told in the style of comic strips
and published as a book. Graphic novels, as compared with illustrated fiction, narrate a story using a
combination of text and pictures in sequential order across the page. The phrase is used broadly,
embracing nonfiction works, thematically linked short tales, and fictional pieces of many genres.

3. Differentiate literary criticism and literary theory. How are they interrelated with each other?
- Literary criticism is the study, assessment, and interpretation of literature, whereas literary theory is the
many frameworks used to analyze and interpret a specific piece. Literary criticism is the study, analysis,
assessment, and interpretation of literature. In other words, it determines the worth of a work. A specific
piece or body of work is judged in literary criticism based on its aesthetic, historical/cultural/social
relevance, use of language, and insights and insights of the work. Understanding the nature and purpose
of literature, as well as the relationship of text to its creator, reader, and society, is what literary theory is
all about. It might be regarded as the framework that supports literary criticism. Literary theory is a
collection of techniques for evaluating literature pieces. In other words, these are the many views or
angles employed to analyze literature.

4. What are the considerations in writing a critique?

- Before you begin writing a critique, you must have comprehended what is being criticized. Examine the
piece under consideration and take notes on relevant points. Develop a knowledge of the argument or
aim conveyed in the text as well. Finally, consider how the work links to a broader topic or situation.

5. In order to write a critical paper, what must be included in it? Briefly discuss the structure.
- A critique should include an introduction, critical evaluation, conclusion, and reference list. Briefly
describe the essential topics in the introduction. Critical evaluation should provide a systematic and
extensive review of the many parts of the work using a specific literary theory, assessing how effectively
the author achieved the work's aim. The conclusion includes a summary of the significant variables
found during the critical evaluation that led to the formation of this evaluation. The reference list
contains all materials referenced in the critique.
