8:40 am-9:00 am Phonics Phonics Mat Routine ‘’ Mat session.

● Revise the sound a, s, t, p, l, n Letter cards

● Explicitly explain the l and N by exaggerating the sound with lip movement and hold up their hands to trace the sound. Students whiteboards, markers and erasers.

● Use Letter cards l and n

● Students use their fingers to air write the letters l, and n

● Students collect their whiteboards, markers and erasers and write the letter t and p after the teacher explicitly sound them out (make it pop) and writes on the whiteboard.

10:15 am-11:15 pm Science Warm Up Revise prior knowledge about the sun. Present the Salvador Dali painting, The Persistence of Memory, as a stimulus. What objects are in this picture? Would these objects normally look like that? What do you think has happened to these objects? Guide students to understand that objects are

melting

Mat Session: Roleplay eating melting ice cream, and determine the factors that will increase the melting process, such as the sun and warm hands. Explore objects that can melt, and include objects that cannot melt.

Activities:

● Show a range of objects to the student (soluble and non-soluble) and write their prediction of whether the object will melt. The objects are placed outside; the student explores a range of objects that can melt, such as ice cubes and objects that cannot melt.

● Picture sorting- student sort photos of melting and solid object that cannot melt.

Review: Discuss the predictions and outcomes of the investigation.
