What makes an ideal educator?

An educator is like a mirror through which a student can see his or her
future. They would like to imitate every word that you say and every action that
you do. An ideal teacher to be so called should possess a few special abilities,
should have a good personality and abundant knowledge. Someone who makes
a student enjoy learning, someone who is supportive, who goes above the call
of duty to help you out. In addition, he or she is God fearing, disciplined, coop-
erative, friendly, maintains professionalism and most of all devoted to his/her
work.
The teaching profession has many responsibilities, yet it is fulfilling. The
students you teach are like fruit-trees you plant. It is very motivating to plant
seed and to see it sprout, grow leaves, put forth flowers and bear fruits. Just im-
agine students thinking of you when they remember the great teacher they had
in college.
Rosita P. Abubo
Dean, CE

An ideal teacher should have many qualities. A student remembers

such a teacher for long because they are like mirrors through which a stu-
dent can see his or her future.

To be an educator is not an easy job. It entails a lot of work to con-

quer success. But I do believe that everything will be all right when we do
things with humility. As an educator, I am guided with this verse, “Humble
yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.“ James 4:10 KJV.

If we have a spirit of humility, we can be taught by God and be

used to touch the lives of others. In my opinion, an ideal educator is some-

one who is humble. With this, you can work comfortably to any people, no Chairperson, SEd
wavering on their part. Thus communication will smoothly flow and may
inspire others to do their duties and responsibilities, you work with others
healthily and open to suggestions. In short, ideal educators can influence
lives. It is just like a candle which consumes itself to light the way for others.
This is what every intellectual person expects from a teacher.
Page 9

I agree to the idea of Baylongo who says that an ideal

educator in the 21st century is the teacher who possesses the
following traits: an ideal teacher is able to adapt the curricu-
lum and the requirements in innovative and creative way, vi-
sionary teacher who is able to use energizing tools, able to see
ideas and these ideas in his/her classes, the communicator
teacher, a leader, a model, the collaborator who is able to use
collaboration tools to enhance and motivate learners to share,
to contribute, adapt and invent and the risk taker who is able to
risks and surrenders oneself to students’ knowledge.

Salve Maria A. Sanchez

Chairperson, EEd

If you hear the word “teacher” what sinks to your mind? Who comes to your
perception? What do you see?

For me it’s not the typical old woman with eye glasses, slender stick, thick
pile of books and who wears very decent corporate attire just like those tellers in a
bank but rather a lighted bulb, mirror and a leader.

An ideal teacher should be a light bulb that always makes every corner clear.
He must know a little of everything because this will help him explain and lighten up
any complicated theories and vague scenarios to his learners. As a teacher also, he is
Steven B. Duclayan tasked to intensify the interest of the learner’s genuine love of learning just like a light-
President, STA ed bulb illuminating a dark empty room to a well painted one.

To be considered as an ideal teacher, he should also be a mirror. He should try his best to inculcate the value
of appreciating oneself to his learners because this is the gateway to the holistic development. Remember that teach-
ers are just doors to change; the learners must be the one to enter to make himself a better individual just like a wom-
an putting a make-up on her face in front of a mirror to make herself beautiful.

Above all, an ideal teacher should be a leader. His actions, words and wisdoms should influence and be imi-
tated by not only his learners under his class record but also to the people outside the four corners of his classroom.
Just like a leader, he should know how to be competitive in fighting for the real right, exposing the real truth and edu-
cating real fact just like our Dean Rosita P. Abubo who is being idolized and to be idolized by many future teachers to
come.

The teachers are the most silent workers in the community but they are indeed the most influential one. They
maybe only staying inside the four cornered classroom but their influences fly around the world. A lighted bulb, a
mirror and a leader, for me, this is what I see in an ideal teacher.
