Part

Vocabulary (3 mins)
acupuncture /ˈækjupʌŋktʃər/
a Chinese method of treating pain and illness using special
thin needles pushed into the skin in particular (特定的)
parts of the body

e.g. Using acupuncture to treat diseases is a way of medical
therapy.

traditional /trəˈdɪʃənl/
being part of the beliefs, customs or way of life of a group
of people, that have not changed for a long time

e.g. My grandpa loves traditional Chinese medicine.

the fact of something happening or existing

a substance(物质) that is naturally present
in the earth, for example gold and salt;
some are also present in food and drink and in the
human body and are necessary for good health

Dialog (4 mins)
Role-play the dialog with your teacher twice, and learn the highlighted expressions by heart.

Doctor: Hello, Mr. Smith. How are you feeling today?
Patient: Much better, thank you! I can sit straight today. The acupuncture is really great.
Doctor: Yes, Chinese medicine has a history of more than 5,000 years. It has a complete
theory about the occurrence, development and treatment of diseases.
Patient: How do Chinese doctors treat their patients?
Doctor: Traditional medicines are often used, such as herbs, minerals, and so on.
Patient: Thank you very much, Doctor. I’ve got a better understanding of traditional
Chinese medicine now.
TI: Take turns to play both characters. Emphasize and repeat the highlighted expressions.

Suppose you are introducing Chinese medicine to your foreign friend. Use the vocabulary and expressions
