Recognizing the need to promote Philippine history further, the Department of Education
(DepEd) has entered into a partnership which aims to provide and distribute quality posters
showcasing statements of notable Filipinos.

DepEd and Project Saysay (PSaysay) Inc. signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) at the
Office of the Secretary in Pasig City recently for the implementation of the “DepEd Series”
wherein quality posters that showcase statements of notable Filipinos – including National
Artists, National Scientists, noble statesmen, and outstanding educators – will be distributed to
schools and other institutions.

“This is beautiful,” said Briones while browsing through some of the posters. “We need more
outputs, especially on areas where we have been debating on matters of Philippine history,”
she added. The project targets to distribute 21,000 posters, for free, to selected Philippine basic
education schools, institutions, and offices by 2021.

Briones noted that “we need more knowledge” especially at a time where new information
readily comes in. “Ang daming hindi pa natin alam, na bago lang lumalabas, so what you are
doing is important,” she added.

Meanwhile, DepEd Undersecretary for Legislative Affairs Tonisito M.C. Umali, Esq. also
expressed his gratitude to the partners for this undertaking. “Partnership has always been an
important paradigm for DepEd in delivering quality basic education, achieving our goals, and
performing our services to our children,” he said.

In closing, Briones thanked PSaysay for going one step further in supporting the President and
the Executive Secretaries’ advocacy, through Memorandum Circular No. 25 signed last
September 15, 2017, to do away with photos of officials, and put up images of heroes instead.

The MOA was signed by Briones and PSaysay Executive Director Ian Christopher Alfonso with
Umali and Philippine Historical Association (PHA) officials, including President Ma. Luisa
Camagay and Vice President Fernando Santiago Jr. as witnesses.
