A NARRATIVE REPORT ON BRIGADA ESKWELA 2022

The Department of Education (DepEd), through its External Partnerships Service (EPS)

recently implemented the Brigada Eskwela (BE) program in time for the opening of classes
for the School Year (SY) 2022-2023 last August 22, 2022. This was pursuant to DepEd Order
(Do) No. 034, s. 2022, concerning the school calendar and activities for the incoming school
year. Brigada Eskwela, also known as the Bayanihan para sa Paaralan, is a nationwide
voluntary effort of teachers, parents, students, community members and other organizations
to do minor repairs and clean-ups on their school in preparation for the start of the school
year.

The different components of Brigada ESkwela Program were implemented starting August 1
to 26, 2022 for its Brigada Eskwela sa Paghahanda and continued with the year-round
implementation of Brigada Eskwela Plus and Brigada Pagbasa. With the theme ‘Tugon sa
Hamon ng Ligtas na Balik-Aral’, BE highlighted the country’s collective efforts from various
partnership engagements, creating a safe learning environment for the learners, teaching and
non-teaching personnel, and community to achieve safety while ensuring the delivery of
quality education for the incoming school year.

Brigada Eskwela 2022 was a full-blown program that focused in the delivery of access to
education and quality of education. Comprising the physical aspect of 2022 BE was s Brigada
Eskwela sa Paghahanda, held for a couple of weeks for school maintenance and minor to
medium repair in time for the re-opening of in-person classes.

Last August 1, 2022, Baras-Baras High School conducted a face-to-face celebration for
Brigada Eskwela Kick-off held at the BBHS grounds. This said program was participated by
teachers, parents/guardians, selected students, and other stakeholders. The program was
realized through the efforts of the school principal, Dr, Mamerto L. Ragel Jr., who was in full
support to achieve the goals and objectives of the BE program. Backing him Mr. Carl
Fulloso, the BE Focal Person, who undoubtedly spent his time for the BE’ Programs’ smooth
and full implementation.

Gratitude is also due to the BBHS teachers who helped and supported for all BE programs,
the cleanliness and beautification of classrooms and for being unmindful everyday face-to-
face reporting in school. The holders who are always supporting and extending their helping
hand to the school. Big thanks also to all partners for their unending dedication to help for the
betterment of the school.

Here is a rundown of the various Brigada activities of BBHS:

To start the BE, Clean-Up Drive, Garden Beautification and Landscaping were kicked off on
August 1-9, 2022. Various organizations participated for the said activity, displaying their
utmost service to BBHS. These include the Tarlac City Jail Management, United Ilocandia
Fraternity and Sorority, 4Ps, Bureau of Fire Protection-Tarlac City, Tarlac State University -
College of Criminal Justice Education, Omega Upsilon Sorority and Fraternity, Supreme
Student Government students and teachers.

On August 2, 2022, Zumba was conducted with the leadership and volunteerism of the very
talented Ms. Digna Manaloto with the cooperation of parents, teachers and students. Thus
said, keeping us fit and healthy, exercises and sports will never be the least in this BE.

In line with this, last August 4, 2022, Project “GILAS” was organized in the school wherein
volleyball games were conducted with the indispensable assistance of the referees, Mr. Kit
Martin Rocha and Mr. Jayson Rama. Participated by the alumni and parents, six teams were
formed. This was followed by basketball games, also participated in by parents and alumni
distributed into six teams as well, with Sirs Marvic Calma, Dennis Vidad, and Mark Tamina
acting as referees.

One of the major stakeholders of BBHS is the Baras-baras community, therefore the
institution must give back to it. In partnership with Public Employment Service Office
(PESO) of the Provincial Government of Tarlac, headed by Engr. Arnold Damson, and with
the support of 11 (eleven) companies, a Job-Fair was held at the BBHS campus. Many
interested jobseekers from different barangays came wherein 128 lucky applicants were
hired. In fact, 29 qualified applicants were actually hired on the spot.

On August 9, 2022, 40 (forty) male students became ‘neat and tidy’ courtesy of the free
haircut from Mr. Salvado Aureus, a barber, under the supervision of Mrs. Mylene Dupitas.
Aside from this, BBHS in partnership of the Philippine Red Cross - Tarlac Blood Center
administered a blood donation drive, with 5 out of 13 delighted volunteers were able to
donate blood.

Last August 18, 2022, BBHS, believing in the saying “a sound mind and a sound body”
initiated a nutrition program. With the support of the Rotary Club Midtown Tarlac, courtesy
of Engr. Michael David, a feeding program was held, benefiting 200 beneficiaries. Each was
given a pack of nutritious food, with a desert of banana fruit through the sharing of Ms.
Magnolia Maliwat.

A Raffle Draw was also held, through the joint effort of the Supreme Student Government
(SSG) and Office of the Registrar. This was supported by students, parents, teachers and the
community. 1,035 out of 1,200 tickets were sold. This was in support of the Project “BIBO”,
wherein 60 (sixty) students were the beneficiaries.

A Livelihood Training was also held on August 18, 2022 with the supervision of the
Department of Trade and Industry and KWO members. Sweet potato product making
(pastillas, jam, tart, and chips products) was administered and there were thirty attendees.

During the BE, we were also able to install a water line in the new building. Also, there was
the installation of new electrical outlets at the BBHS Canteen, Faculty room and other
classrooms,

Truly, it was a BE well spent and with that, we in BBHS like to extend our sincerest gratitude
to the proponents of the following activities during the BE: Brigada Pagbasa, WINS, Gulayan
sa Paaralan and DRRM. These would never have been possible without the support of all
donors, sponsors, stakeholders, students, teachers, our principal, and, of course, the Almighty
God. Like what the Bible says in Proverbs 11:25: “A generous person will prosper; whoever
refreshes others will be refreshed.” The one who blesses others is abundantly blessed;
therefore, we promise to continually help and support the whole community with the help of
everybody. See you again next school year! May God bless us all.
