Ways of Conserving Earth’s Resources

A. What’s New
Philippines is considered rich in natural
resources. We have fertile, arable lands, high
diversity of plants and animals, extensive
coastlines, and rich mineral deposits. We
have natural gas, coal, and geothermal
energy. Wind and water are also harnessed
for electricity generation.

Most of the country's metallic minerals,

including gold, iron ore, lead, zinc,
chromite, and copper, are drawn from
major deposits on the islands of Luzon
and Mindanao. Smaller deposits of
silver, nickel, mercury, molybdenum,
cadmium, and manganese occur in
several other locations.

B. What Is It
Ways to Conserve our resources

1. Reduce, reuse, and recycle. Cut down on what you throw away. Follow the
three "R's" to conserve natural resources and landfill space.
2. Volunteer. Volunteer for cleanups in your community. You can get involved in
protecting your watershed, too.
3. Educate. When you further your own education, you can help others
understand the importance and value of our natural resources.

4. Conserve water. The less water you use, the less runoff and wastewater that
eventually end up in the ocean.
5. Choose sustainable. Learn how to make smart seafood choices.
6. Shop wisely. Buy less plastic and bring a reusable shopping bag.
7. Use long-lasting light bulbs. Energy efficient light bulbs reduce greenhouse
gas emissions. Also flip the light switch off when you leave the room!
8. Plant a tree. Trees provide food and oxygen. They help save energy, clean the
air, and help combat climate change.
9. Don't send chemicals into our waterways. Choose non-toxic chemicals in the
home and office.
10. Bike more. It’s ideal to walk or ride with your bicycle than driving your
motorcycles/ vehicles especially when our destination is near our home to
reduce the use of engines and also reduces air pollution.

C. Learning Activities
