taken from the Book of Samuel

FIRST READING Samuel 7, 4-5. 12-14. 16

The LORD spoke to Nathan and said: “Go, tell my servant

David, ‘When your time comes and you rest with your
ancestors, I will raise up your heir after you, sprung from
your loins, and I will make his kingdom firm. It is he who
shall build a house for my name. And I will make his royal
throne firm forever. I will be a father to him, and he shall
be a son to me. Your house and your kingdom shall endure
forever before me; your throne shall stand firm forever.’”
(pause)

The word of the Lord.

.
All: Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM

3
Response:

I love the Lord, He is filled with compassion.

He turned to me on the day that I called.
From the snares of the dark, O, Lord, save my life,
Be my strength.

Gracious is the Lord, and just.

Our God is mercy, rest to the weary.
Return my soul to the Lord our God who bids tears away.
I love the Lord. (Response)

How can I repay the Lord for all the goodness He has shown me?
I will raise the cup of salvation and call on His name.
I love the Lord. (Response)

I shall live my vows to You before Your people,

I am Your servant.
I will offer You my sacrifice of praise and of pray'r.
I love the Lord. (Response)

Second Reading Commentary:

4
In the letter of St. Paul, it is righteousness which matters
most. The righteousness that comes from faith, the faith that God
bestow upon us. Let us listen to the Second reading taken from
the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans.

SECOND READING

Brothers and sisters:

It was not through the law that the promise was made to
Abraham and his descendants that he would inherit the world,
but through the righteousness that comes from faith. For this
reason, it depends on faith, so that it may be a gift, and the
promise may be guaranteed to all his descendants, not to those
who only adhere to the law but to those who follow the faith of
Abraham, who is the father of all of us, as it is written, “I have
made you father of many nations.” He is our father in the sight
of God, in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and
calls into being what does not exist. He believed, hoping
against hope, that he would become “the father of many
nations,” according to what was said, “Thus shall your
descendants be. That is why it was credited to him as
righteousness.” (pause)

The word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God.

Commentator: Please all stand as we acclaim the Holy Gospel.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION (sung)

GOSPEL

5
Priest: The Lord be with you.

All: And with your spirit.

Priest: A reading from the Gospel according to Saint Matthew

All: Glory to you, O Lord.

Jacob was the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary of her

was born Jesus who is called the Christ. Now this is how the
birth of Jesus Christ came about. When his mother Mary was
betrothed to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was
found with child through the Holy Spirit. Joseph her husband,
since he was a righteous man, yet unwilling to expose her to
shame, decided to divorce her quietly. Such was his intention
when, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream
and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary
your wife into your home. For it is through the Holy Spirit that
this child has been conceived in her. She will bear a son and
you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from
their sins.” When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord
had commanded him and took his wife into his home.

Priest: The Gospel of the Lord.

All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ!

but on this day above all
to laud you and yet more gloriously,

10
when Christ our Passover has been sacrificed.

For he is the true Lamb

who has taken away the sins of the world;
by dying he has destroyed our death,
and by rising, restored our life.

Therefore, overcome with paschal joy,

every land, every people exults in your praise
and even the heavenly Powers, with the angelic hosts,
sing together the unending hymn of your glory,
as they acclaim:

HOLY (sung)

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER II

Priest: You are indeed Holy, O Lord,

the fount of all holiness.
Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray,
by sending down your Spirit upon them like the
dewfall, so that they may become for us
the Body and  Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly

into his Passion, he took bread and, giving thanks,
broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF IT,

FOR THIS IS MY BODY, WHICH WILL BE
GIVEN UP FOR YOU.

11
In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the
chalice and, once more giving thanks, he gave it to his
disciples, saying:

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT,

FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD,
THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND ETERNAL
COVENANT, WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT FOR
YOU AND FOR MANY FOR THE FORGIVENESS
OF SINS. DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.

Priest: The mystery of faith.

ANAMNESIS (sung)

Priest: Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial

of his Death and Resurrection,
we offer you, Lord,
the Bread of life and the Chalice of salvation,
giving thanks that you have held us worthy
to be in your presence and minister to you.

Humbly we pray that,

partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ,
we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.

Remember, Lord, your Church,

spread throughout the world,
and bring her to the fullness of charity,

12
together with Francis our Pope and Rolando our
Archbishop and all the clergy.

Remember also our brothers and sisters

who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection,
and all who have died in your mercy:
welcome them into the light of your face.
Have mercy on us all, we pray,
that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
with the blessed Apostles,
and all the Saints who have pleased you throughout
the ages, we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life,
and may praise and glorify you through your Son,
Jesus Christ. (pause)

Through him, and with him, and in him,

O God, almighty Father,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honor is yours,
for ever and ever.
