In theory, the latitude and departure of a closed polygon must be equal to zero.

∑ 𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑡𝑢𝑑𝑒 = 0

Checking,

18.27 + 41.31 + (−38.25) + (−32.31) + 30.73 = 19.75

Here we conclude that the latitude of FA is −19.75 to able to prove the theory.

Additionally, we found the departure of side FA to be −30.23 since,

∑ 𝑑𝑒𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒 = 0

Checking,

−11 + 49.18 + 23.30 + (−10.96) + (−20.29) = 30.23

Given the latitude and departure we are able to determine the distance from F to A using,

𝑙𝑒𝑛𝑔𝑡ℎ2 = 𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑡𝑢𝑑𝑒 2 + 𝑑𝑒𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒 2

𝑙𝑒𝑛𝑔𝑡ℎ = √𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑡𝑢𝑑𝑒 2 + 𝑑𝑒𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒 2

𝐹𝐴 = √19.752 + 30.232
𝐹𝐴 = 36.11 𝑚

To determine latitude we use,

𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑡𝑢𝑑𝑒 = 𝑙𝑒𝑛𝑔𝑡ℎ 𝑥 cos(𝑏𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔)

Solving latitude we get,

𝐴𝐵 = 21.32 𝑥 cos(31°02′) = 18.27

𝐵𝐶 = 64.23 𝑥 cos(49°58′) = 41.31

𝐶𝐷 = 44.79 𝑥 cos(31°21′) = −38.25

𝐷𝐸 = 34.12 𝑥 cos(18°44′) = −32.31

𝐸𝐹 = 36.82 𝑥 cos(33°26′) = 30.73

𝐹𝐴 = −19.75

To determine departure we use,

𝑑𝑒𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒 = 𝑙𝑒𝑛𝑔𝑡ℎ 𝑥 sin (𝑏𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔)

Solving departure we get,

𝐴𝐵 = 21.32 𝑥 𝑙𝑒𝑛𝑔𝑡ℎ 𝑥 sin(31°02′ ) = −11

𝐵𝐶 = 64.23 𝑥 sin(49°58′) = 49.18

𝐶𝐷 = 44.79 𝑥 sin(31°21′) = −23.30

𝐷𝐸 = 34.12 𝑥 sin(18°44′) = −10.96

𝐸𝐹 = 36.82 𝑥 sin(33°26′) = −20.29

𝐹𝐴 = −30.23
