Checking of Attendance
(The class monitor will check the attendance)
Review of the previous lesson.
Who can give the recap of our previous lesson?
Okay______, please stand.
“Our lesson last meeting is about thesis statement, In
the previous lesson, we learned that a sentence that
gives the stand or position of a writer on an issue or
topic is called thesis statement. This signal or informs
the reader of what the text or essay is about”.
Alright very good! Thesis statement serves as a guide to the reader”.
And what are the two types of thesis statement? “The two types of thesis statement are explicit and
implicit. Explicit thesis statement which can be found
inside or it is part of the text. While implicit thesis
statement is not visible in the text or it is implied and the
readers are the one who will tell what is the thesis
statement of a certain academic text.”
Alright, where can we find thesis statement in a certain “Thesis statement can be found at the beginning,
academic text? middle and at the end of a text or it is implied”.
B. LESSON PROPER

Alright, very good! And in academic text that is what we “I guess Ma’am brainstorming”.
called “Outlining”. “I guess Ma’am pre-writing sketch’
“The left table box consists only of words while on the right
table box consists of sentences”.
Class, what did you observed with the example inside “Both consists of thesis statement, roman numerals, letters
the table box? and numbers”.

Benefits of Outlining
It gives an overview of the topic and it enables
us to see how various subtopics relate to one
another.
Recording the information in our own words and
tests our understanding of what we read.
It allows the writer to understand how he or she
will connect all the information to support the
thesis statement and the claims of the paper.
C. APPLICATION It can help you plan and manage your time.
Let’s see if you understand our discussion, lets answer
this activity. (Answers may vary)
Now let us see this second one but this time, you are
going to create a sentence outline for this:
D. GENERALIZATION
IV. EVALUATION
A. Read the following paragraphs and choose the best topic or sentence outline for each item.
1. I believe in the power of kindness. I believe the simplest acts of generosity can make the world a better
place. Kindness can be the easiest part of your life. Anyone can be kind, and there is no excuse not to
be. Whether you tell your friend you like her dress, or pay for the person behind you in line, kindness
should be in everybody’s lives. I believe in the power of kindness to change the world.
A. Generosity
B. Kindness
C. Power of Kindness
2. “Kill them with kindness” is an infamous quote I like to refer to in my daily life. There is no reason to
have drama with somebody. If somebody chooses to dislike you, bully you, or just be mean in general,
just be kind. There is no reason to fight back. If you act like you don’t care, it makes them look worse and
you will look like the nicest person ever. If you just act kind to people, they will treat you the same. My
mom always taught me to live a drama free life. If you are angry, vent to a parent or best friend and let it
go. Life is too short to hold grudges. My life is filled with kindness because I rarely get into a fight with
anyone. All it takes is kindness. Treat people with kindness and respect, and you will get the same in
return.
A. How to treat people with kindness
B. Ways to kill with kindness
C. Kindness and respect
3. My dad always told me to live life like a camera is watching you at all times. What he said really stuck
with me because if I were on camera, I would want to seem as generous as possible. As a result, I
always try to give random acts of kindness and see people’s excited expressions. I believe that
performing random acts of kindness is the best way to strengthen the power of kindness. One night, 11
me and my five best friends Jessie, Ana, Julia, and Jillian were at the 99’s. There was an old man sitting
all by himself, and we overheard the waitress say ¨happy birthday to him. Depressed that he was all
alone on his birthday, my friends and I decided to pay for his bill. Just that simple act of kindness made
this man's entire birthday. He, as well as the other waiters, were all so impressed with us girls. Everyone
came up to us after he left thanking us for showing kindness towards a stranger. In return, the waitress
thought we were awesome for being raised the right way, she gave us free dessert!
One night, my sister Madison, her friend Grace, and our dance teacher Nikki went out to dinner. The
whole night they were having so much fun that they didn't even think to go on their phone all night. One
guy sitting at a different table happened to notice how much fun they had without technology, he decided
to pay for their meal. He thought it was amazing how much fun they were having. This act of kindness by
the man made their day so much better, and they came home to tell everyone about it. Random acts of
kindness like that is what makes happier people all around.
A. Acts of kindness are not taught.
B. Acts of kindness are unplanned and simple.
C. Acts of kindness are innate to people.
4. The Philippine government on March 17, 2020 declared a State of Calamity throughout the country for
the period of six months due to COVID-19 global pandemic. An enhanced community quarantine
covering the entire Luzon Island was imposed until April 14, 2020, requiring mandatory home quarantine
for everyone.
A. Global pandemic
B. Imposition of Quarantine in the country
C. Home quarantine
5. NASSA/Caritas Philippines, as a humanitarian organization, invited our network from the social action
centers of the dioceses and our colleagues from the civil society organizations to mobilize our
communities to prioritize the targets and reach out to the neediest. This is a concrete way to localize our
humanitarian response. The idea of caritas kindness station is to decentralize the humanitarian response
- so that the communities themselves help the needy, and not through the usual top-to-bottom approach
or the donor-to-beneficiaries framework of providing relief assistance.
A. What is NASSA/Caritas Philippines
B. How to mobilize the communities
C. What is the essence of the movement/organization
B. Directions: Read the text below and make an outline, either topic outline or sentence outline. Write
your answer in a separate sheet of paper. Be guided by the rubric for outlining.
From shipping crates to paper bags, the logging industry supplies the raw materials for an array of products.
However, this is not without untold harm to the environment. The damage includes habitat loss, pollution, and
climate change, with the effects spanning the globe from the rain forests of Central Africa, Southeast Asia, and
South America to the northern forests of Canada and Scandinavia. The effects of logging extend beyond just
the felling of a swath of trees. Nutrients, water, and shelter for plants, animals, and microorganisms throughout
the ecosystem are also lost: many life forms—both terrestrial and aquatic—are becoming endangered as
forests vanish.
Trees protect the soil beneath them: thus, tree loss can affect soil integrity. For example, the rainforest
floor, home to myriad plant life as well as insects, worms, reptiles and amphibians, and small mammals, relies
on a dense canopy of branches and leaves to keep it healthy and intact. The canopy prevents surface runoff by
intercepting heavy rainfall so that water can drip down slowly onto the porous earth. Tree roots also stabilize
the soil and help prevent erosion. In return, a healthy soul encourages root development and microbial activity,
which contribute to tree growth and well-being. A major factor in logging-related soil damage comes from road
building, with trucks and other heavy equipment compressing the spongy soul, creating furrows where water
collects, and disrupting the underground water now. Eventually, the topsoil wears away, leaving behind an
infertile layer of rocks and hard clay.
Logging can also damage aquatic habitats. Vegetation along rivers and stream banks helps maintain a
steady water flow by blocking the entry of soil and other residue, and tree shade inhibits the growth of algae.
Removing trees obliterates these benefits. When eroding soil flows into water-ways, the organic matter within it
consumes more oxygen, which can lead to oxygen depletion in the water, killing fish and other aquatic wildlife.
Trees provide a natural defense against air pollution. They remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere
while they emit oxygen, and their leaves filter pollutants from the air. Cutting down trees keeps pollutants
airborne, where they can mix with water vapor and form acid rain. Water quality in nearby streams and rivers
also deteriorates as tree loss contributes to increased sedimentation.
In a healthy forest ecosystem, trees draw moisture from the soil and release it into the atmosphere while
they provide shade to lessen evaporation. Thus, deforestation impacts rainfall patterns, leading to flooding as
well as drought and forest fires. Deforestation is responsible for about one-fifth of carbon dioxide emissions
worldwide, making it a major contributor to climate change-in particular, global warming. In the Amazon basin
alone, deforestation is responsible for millions of tons of carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere
annually. Some logging companies burn large tracts of forest Just to facilitate access to one area —a practice
that discharges even more carbon dioxide.
Forests, especially the tropical rain forests, are a vital natural resource with extensive biodiversity and
irreplaceable wildlife habitats. More responsible logging practices would help ensure that they are protected for
future generations.
V. ASSIGNMENT
