1.0 PURPOSE
This Method Statement is prepared to ensure the planting work of sapling trees for the project
shall comply on plans, specifications and all relevant standard and code requirement in the
execution of different work, activities to be performed in the landscape and other relevant and
structure associated with the project in general. In addition we will serve as a tool to guide all
technical personnel and layman execute proper landscaping procedure complied with the quality
and safety plans for the project.

2.0 SITE PREPARATION

Objective The purposes of site preparation are to:
1. Remove slash, existing vegetative, debris, boulders etc
2. Reduce the competition of unwanted vegetation in order to increase the survival
and growth rate of the desired trees/shrubs

Scope & Procedure 1. Debris including slash, stone, boulders should be disposed by the Contractor in
order to prepare the area before entering the site.
2. Existing vegetative will be weed out or cleared from the planting areas prior to the
soil preparation.
3. Preliminary preparation for Nursery Stock Protection Area/Transit Area whereas
the designated area should be approved by the Consultant.

Procedure
1. The workers are responsible to ensure the planting areas (ground floor planting)
are weed free before planting. Manual weeding is advised for new growth weed
found in the planting areas.
2. To plan & prepare the transit area for tree based on the planting schedule, size and
numbers of tree transported.
3. To plan and prepare access of workers, transporting and mobilization of
trees/shrubs

3.0 HANDLING / TRANSPLANTING

Objective The purposes of handling/transporting are to:
1. To increase chances of success, evaluate the suitability of the new planting
site by checking the growing conditions, including light levels, soil pH,
drainage, and exposure.
2. To minimize the shock to the plant by reducing damage many of the feeder
roots during the transplanting process

2.1 Planting Plan

Personnel Involved 1. Project Manager

2. Site Supervisor
3. Labourers

PPE Safety Shoe, Gloves

Scope & Procedure 1. Determine factors of transplanting trees from the selected nursery to the site
should be considering the following factors
a. General health, form and structure of tree
b. Size of tree
c. Availability and suitability of a receptor site
d. Time for preparation
e. Maintenance party
f. Access to the existing and receptor locations and transportation
2. Identified and marked trees for relocation, shall not be cut, but shall be dug up,
prepared for, and relocated. Tree that planted in a burlap bag or HDPE polybags
should be on priority rather than planted on the soil to reduce the mortality
percentage of the transplanted trees.

Procedure
1. Trees should be evaluated and prior to satisfaction of the consultant/client before
marking the trees.
2. Fibrous root that came out of the bag should be properly cut and the feeder root
should be avoid to reduce the damage.
3. Cuts must be clean to avoid tearing or breaking the roots. All cut roots shall be
trimmed cleanly back to the healthy tissues to reduce the split and torn roots.
Sharp cut ends can promote a flush of new fibrous roots, helping the trees recover
faster from injuries.
4. Base of the root ball should be slanted inward to facilitate the lifting operation.
5. No transplanting operations should commence until either the receptor site or the
holding nursery is fully prepared.
6. Tree uplifted must be transplanted and watered the same day. Watering before
lifting is recommended.
7. Temporary support of trees before lifting is required due to the extensive loss of
fibrous root and some of the feeder root.
8. Regular inspection should also be made to adjust the physical support and to
check for the stability of the tree, in particular after the passage of inclement
weather, so that corrective action can be timely arranged.

4.0 PLANTING
Objective The purposes of plantingis to:
1. The goal is to minimize this transplant shock and get plants growing as soon as
possible

Document 2. Project Approved Drawing
2.1 Planting Plan

Personnel Involved 1. Project Manager

2. Site Supervisor
3. Labourers

Scope & Procedure 1. Planting the trees sapling according to the Planting Plan (Baris Tanaman)
2. Avoiding contamination from materials and chemicals from the surrounding that
may affected plant to growth.
3. The base of tree pits and trenches will be broken up to allow deep root penetration
and to ensure there is no sump effect in the hole.

Procedure
1. Contractor to ensure the pit excavated for the sapling trees should be adequate for
that day work including other preparation such as supply of labour, tools,
machinery, mulching material, watering etc.
2. All root ball supporting materials should be removed from the planting hole prior
to final back filling.
3. Following pit excavation, the plants will be carefully placed into the hole with all
roots spread out and any damaged roots pruned back to sound growth.
4. The plant will be carefully held upright in the middle of the pit whilst the
excavated soil is put back over the roots in thin layers.
5. The top surface of the root ball should not be below the surrounding soil. The
bottom of the trunk flare should be at or above the finished grade.
6. The back-fill soil shall be reinstated and settled in layered sections to limit future
settling and prevent air pockets
7. It shall not be compacted to a density that in. The backfill soil should be tamped
firmly around the base to stabilise a treehibits root growth.
8. CRP will be added in the planting pit to increase root growth
9. Water should be added to the root ball and the backfill to bring the root ball to
field capacity. Soaking will assist in settling the soil naturally.

5.0 STAKING
Objective The purposes of staking are to:
1. Provides each plant the ability to grow without bending to the point where it breaks
the plant and stops growth.
2. Prevent wind rock and movement of the roots.

Document 2. Project Approved Drawing
2.1 Planting Plan

Personnel Involved 1. Project Manager

2. Site Supervisor
3. Labourers

PPE Safety Shoe, Gloves

Scope & Procedure 1. New planted sapling trees require staking based on height adviced by JAbatan
Perhutanan Semenanjung Malaysia
a. Trees height 2’-3’ – Single Staking

Procedure
1. Contractor shall determine requirement type of tree staking for each tree planted
according to the drawing and specification. (3’ staking)
2. Staking shall be constructed right after completion of planting tree.
3. The stake should be of the height of the tree. This anchors the roots and allows the
stem to sway and thicken.
4. Stakes should be inserted on the side of the prevailing wind so that the tree is blown
away from the stake.
5. Check the ties regularly for rubbing and adjust if necessary. Constriction of the stem
by ties happens very quickly, so fast growing trees need frequent checking
6. After bad weather, check for abrasion and snapped stakes or ties

1. Provides each plant the visibility to the contractor/officer to monitor the growth &
do the maintenance including replacing the dead trees in the future, manuring &
watering if needed
