1. Purpose

The purpose of this Method Statement is to define the activities and the sequences which are to be carried out

and to describe in general, the methodology to be used in work execution related to Granite flooring and cladding

works in Kalyani Roshni Wework Project to ensure compliance with the conditions of contract, contract

specifications and Health, Safety and Environmental requirements consistent with the approved drawings, relevant

specifications and BOQ. Thus, the highest possible level of construction quality can be achieved when planning and

executing the works described herein.

2. Scope of works

The scope of this Method Statement specifically covers the Granite Works in general for Kalyani Roshni

Wework project at locations as mentioned in the drawings and shall be carried out in compliance with the approved
technical specifications, project HSE requirements and materials.

3. Location of works
As per the approved drawings

All work shall be executed in compliance with the requirements of Project Specifications & Emergency Response

Procedures, and other applicable standards

5. Access/Egress
 As most of accidents are caused due to falls, therefore it is most important that proper access from place to
place is created and kept free of obstructions. Supervisor should ensure that:
 Scaffolding should not be used for floor to floor access
 Safe access is provided for everyone to reach their respective workplace. This may include good clean
gangway, staircases etc.
 All walkways are level and free from obstruction.
 Safe area will be located for shifting of materials.
 Area will be isolated with warning tape.

7. Roles and Responsibilities


 The project Manager is responsible for the preparation and approval of this work procedure
 The Project manager/Site execution engineer are responsible for the overall execution of the works in
accordance with the steps outlined in this procedure and consistent with the approved project schedule
 The Project manager/Site execution engineer shall be responsible for controlling the coordination between
all involved parties to ensure Safety, Quality, controlling the progress of work, civil and MEP clearance
prior to start tiling work and to ensure final approval is obtained prior to starting next activity.
 The Survey Department is responsible for all the layout I setting-out, start point and establishing the
reference elevations related to the work.
 The HSE Engineer is responsible for the Monitoring of the Safety standards of all works taking place within
the site premises & reporting to the project manager where deficiencies are found.
 The HSE Engineer is also responsible to carry out Induction Training/ Safety Training / Tool Box Talk,
inspection of power tools & equipment’s.

12. Operational Sequence of work – Granite installation


a) 10.1 Approvals
 Samples of the required material, shall be approved prior to commencement of works.
 Drawings shall be approved prior to commencement of works.
 Standard clearance shall be obtained before start of work for particular location from relevant works
 Ensure that the waterproofing is completed and tested for leakage & any applicable inspections
b) Pre-Construction Activities: -
 Ensure all required document and material approvals have been obtained.
 Ensure materials have been obtained from approved suppliers (As per BOQ)
 Ensure sufficient raw materials are available at site prior to start of the works.
 Ensure work area is clear and safe.
 Ensure all constraints on operations have been identified and precautions are taken.
 Ensure QC and HSE monitoring documents and procedures are established and approved.
 Arrange sufficient Man-Power, equipment and services as required for the works and ensure lighting, power
and access arrangements are in place.
 Implement Employee induction procedures and Tool Box Talks for ongoing risk assessment and
identification of hazards.
 Erect scaffold and access platforms in accordance with approved temporary works documents and safety
procedures.
 Restrict the area from foot and wheel traffic prior to and during the tiling, activity to prevent damages from
the finished work.
c) Materials Handling on Worksite and Storage: -
 Materials shall be received as per site requirements.
 Materials shall be stored in the proper way at temporary locations and handled as per the fixed locations.
 The fixing location of each individual stone panel shall be identified by level number related identification
marking to ensure the compliance to the approved shop drawing.
 From the temporary storage location, marked stones will be delivered to the desired location
 For grout and setting materials, ensure of uniform quality for each cementitious and admixture component
obtained from the producer.

d) Worksite Preparation: -
 The areas of the concrete substrate to be laid/cladded shall be checked and sign-off clearance to shall be
obtained before the start of work.
 The adhesive for bedding the tiles shall be as shown in the drawing and/or project specifications.
 Stone surface shall be cleaned with clear water
 Setting out shall be done by the surveyor and approved by the consultant.
 Experienced workers with necessary experience to be engaged to carry out the tile installations.
e) Installation and Fixing Procedure: -
o Granite Flooring:
 The thickness of bedding is to be kept as per the boq specs. The cement mortar (1 :6) will be spread to the
specified thickness.
 Reference lines for setting out point and finish floor level shall be marked with strings.
 Working area shall be fenced off for installation and construction. Traffic is strictly prohibited
 Mixing cement, sand and with clean water near to the laying area
 Build up semi dry mortar to required thickness as per the approved drawing
 Level the semi dry mortar mix using a flat trowel
 Lay the stones as per the approved pattern.
 After compaction, the stone surface against reference line and adjacent finish floor will be checked
o Wall cladding:
 Ensure the MEP clearance is obtained and all other under laying installations are approved prior to start of
wall cladding works.
 The surface to which the cladding to be done shall be thoroughly dry before fixing commences and free
from all defects.
 The areas to be cladded shall be brushed clean and all traces of grease, oil, loose particles etc. must be
removed
 Ensure that the laying shall be as per the approved direction and pattern.
 Ensure the false ceiling levels are determined prior to starting the tile laying works.
 Ensure that the existing plaster wall is vertically straight and does not exceed the wall finishing level.
 Dampen the wall surface where the cladding is to be done. The thickness of bedding is to be kept as per the
boq specs. The cement mortar (1: 4) will be spread to the specified thickness.
 Lay the granite on the wall and adjust the position and press firmly on the wall to ensure a true surface and
contact between the granite and bedding is complete.
 Before granite cladding check that any color, shade variations, and sizes are acceptable.
f) Grouting: -
 The grouting mix shall be an approved matching cement based polymer grout. The grouting shall be carried
out after the laying of the stones. Sufficient time to be provided for grouting after the laying of tiles so that
the grout will attach itself firmly to the bedding
 Care should be taken to avoid disturbing the stone during grouting application.
 surfaces of the slabs shall be finished with sealer coats as per approved equivalent make

Curing: After the laying of stone, curing to be done for a period of 24 hours.

g) Cleaning of Finished Work: -


 Remove excess grout, setting bed material, mortar with clean clothes or sponge. Clean the affected surface
area when mortar is still in wet form by cotton waste or any other such material.
 When the mortar, grout is dry, remove them with scrapper lightly and clean with dampening cotton waste or
cleaner as specified by the manufacturer.
 Clean all tile surfaces and remove cement/tile grout residue from tiles as soon as day’s work is finished.
h) Protection and Preservation of Finished Work: -
 Remove defective tile and replace with sound tile. Remove and replace tiles with hollow bearing sound
when tapped with steel rod after installation
 Prohibit traffic until the stones are completely set. Floor area will be covered with protection sheet as per
the BOQ to prevent damages to the installed area and preferably area has to be barricaded or restricted for
normal entry.

13. Manpower
 The sufficient number of workers (Mason, helpers, Foreman etc.) will be employed as per site requirement to
perform their duties and they will have sufficient tools and tackles to complete the work assigned to them.

14. Housekeeping: -
 All work area shall be kept free from any dirt, debris, unwanted materials, etc.
 All materials placed in piles shall be done so in a manner that maintains safe clearance and that Prevents
tripping or movement.
 All loose materials shall be secured.
 Accumulation of any materials that may create fire hazards is strictly prohibited.
 Excessive amount of materials is not to be stacked on floors or other supported areas in any manner that may
possibly over weights any structural area.
 Passages, stairways shall be kept clear of observation.
