CHAPTER 3

Research Methodology

This chapter of the research process contains a comprehensive description

of the research design, research locale, respondents, data gathering, data

arrangement, and data analysis.

3.1 Research Design

The researchers utilize descriptive-survey research to conduct the study.

This method consists of creating questionnaires and distributing them to the

respondents. It tends to provide description of pupils’ performance in the

intervention of video presentation as it is the most appropriate type of research

design for the perceived since this involves assessment of the given condition.

Creswell (1994) said the descriptive method of research is to gather information

about the present existing condition. Hence, the researchers aim is to determine the

performance of the pupils during the integration of video presentation in teaching

MAPEH.

3.2 Research Locale

The researchers conducted the study at Sindangan Pilot Demonstration

School located at Zamora Street, Municipality of Sindangan, Province of

Zamboanga del Norte. It is a primary school that was established on January 1,

1920 and one of the popular places listed under school in Sindangan. The school is

350 meters away from Saint Joseph College of Sindangan Incorporated. It can be

walk for 5 minutes and it takes 1 minute if riding a side car that costs 12 pesos of

fare. Bisaya or Cebuano is the dialect the people used in communicating.

3.3 Respondents

The respondents of this study are the grade 3 pupils of Sindangan Pilot

Demonstration School. A total of twenty-five (25) grade 3 pupils as the sample size

of the entire population in a section and are both male and female. The respondents

are these pupils experienced learning through video presentation and how they react

by the said teaching strategy.

The researchers use simple random sampling in the selection of respondents

in which grade 3 pupils in a section has an equal probability of being chosen to be

include in the study. All grade 3 pupils will be use since 100% of them will be

included for the selection using fish bowl method.

3.4 Data Gathering

The researchers asked for the approval of the principal from grade 3 at

Sindangan Pilot Demonstration School to conduct the study. After the letter was

approved, the researchers administered personally the survey questionnaires to the

respondents of the study.

3.5 Data Arrangement

Classification is the way of arranging the data in different classes in order

to give a definite form and a coherent structure of the data collected, facilitating

their use in the most systematic manner.

After retrieving the questionnaires, the researchers organized the data

through tabulation method in arranging data. Tabulation is a systematic and logical

representation of numeric data in rows and columns to facilitate comparison and

statistical analysis. It facilitates comparison by bringing related information close

to each other and helps in statistical analysis and interpretation.

3.6 Data Analysis

The researchers will use survey questionnaire which will be a quantitative

data, since this is the scenario, the answer to the survey questions will be employed:

• Mean was utilized to determine the responses of each item.

∑𝑥
𝑥̅ =
𝑛

Whereas, 𝑥̅ is the mean, ∑𝑥 is the sum of all responses in each

item, and n is the total respondents.

• Frequency was used to determine the total respondents in each item.

𝑓 = ∑𝑛

Whereas, f is the frequency, ∑𝑛 sum of all respondents in each

item.

• Percentage was used to determine the total population.

𝑓
𝑝= × 100
𝛴𝑞

Whereas, 𝑝 is the percentage, f is the sum of total respondent in

each item, 𝛴𝑞 is the sum of all respondents, and multiply it by 100 to find

out the percentage.

20
• The Weighted Mean formula will be used to determine the performance of

grade 3 pupils during and after the intervention of video presentation.

∑𝑓𝑥
𝑊𝑥̅ =
𝑁

Whereas, 𝑊𝑥̅ is the Weighted mean, ∑𝑓𝑥 is the sum of all products

of 𝑓 and 𝑥, where 𝑓 is the frequency of each weight, and 𝑥 is the weight of

each response, and 𝑁 is the sum of all respondents.
