FUNCTIONAL ACADEMIC SCIENCE

THIRD QUARTER

COMPETENCY # 1: Discuss physical state of objects: solid, liquid, gas.

(TP_SFP-ps-NG-3)

Learning Objectives:

1. Discuss physical state of objects: solid, liquid, gas.

2. Differentiate among a solid, liquid, and gas object.
3. Demonstrate appreciation that everything in our lives is made up of matter.

Introduction

Matter is anything that can be seen or touch and it is divided into three states
- solid, liquid, gas.

 Solid - objects that can be touch and see. The closely packed
arrangement is what causes solids to have defined shapes and sizes.

Particles arrangement of solid.

Example of solids are:

 Liquids - objects that can also be touch or see but it changes in shape
depending on the container. The particles in a liquid are able to slide
past each other or near each other, but not tightly packed.

Particles arrangement of liquid.

Examples of liquids are:

• Gas - substance that is around us with no size or shape because
the particles are very far away from each other.

Particles arrangement of gas.

Examples of gases are:

ACTIVITY 1: “Matter and Memory”

Instruction: Flip the card that has the same physical state of objects: solid,
liquid, gas.
ACTIVITY 2: “Matter Crossword”

Instruction: Fill out crossword puzzle with the correct matter using the given
clues.
