We reviewed the article entitled "Screen vs.

Print: E-books seem more fun, but

printed books benefit kids more," written by Sandra Davie. This is an excerpt from The
Straits Times Singapore. In a digital world, she also talks about the benefits of reading on
tablets and smartphones in the article, she writes about how parents can use technology to
help their children learn and develop skills. She says that it's important for parents to be
aware of the potential disadvantages of using technology and digital freedom. We have all
heard about the internet is a where you can find anything.

Based on her research conducted among doctors in this area the author does not agree with
the usage of e-book for young children. However, there are some disadvantages as well
because this could lead them to believe that they will able to read more easily if they do not
have aware of the benefits they might receive from reading online. There are several
reasons why young children should not use e-book in their early years, as this can lead to a
lack of language skill development in children as well as a slowing of their reasoning and
thinking abilities.

While researchers found that children aged three to five had lower reading comprehension
when their parents read to them from electronic books than those whose parents used
traditional books. According to studies, children's brain scans show a significant decrease in
overall connectivity among different parts of the brain when compared to children who use
printed books. The studies also show that the children struggled to keep track of what was
because reading to a child from an electronic device undercuts the dynamic that drives
language development and some call this the "serve and return" model of interaction
between a parent and a child. This occurs when a parent reads a book to a child, turning
pages, pointing at pictures, and discussing the story. apart from developing reading abilities,
"serve and return” also develops reasoning, thinking and even creativity in a child.

Despite of the fact that but the author still chose printed book and provided his
counterarguments., this article has strong statistical backing from a doctor and clinical
researcher from Cincinnati Children's hospital in the United States. This idea is based on the
fact that the author's point of view is based on research conducted by temple university in
the us, which found that children between the ages of 3 and 5 had lower reading
comprehension when their parents read to them using e-books rather than printed books.
and many online publications argue that e-books are better for youngsters than physical
books.
We discover that the article is generally well written for the public. The essay did not contain
any jargon or technical terms that would have required us to use a dictionary to read and
comprehend it. The thesis statement, topic sentence, and supporting details are all crystal
clear, and the article is also effectively arranged.

However, the article is considered outdated and irrelevant since the point of view given by
the author is based on research findings conducted 9 years ago. Additionally, because the
author just expressed the statistical evidence in words, the author did not clearly provide the
data evidence in this article.

We agree with the author that printed books benefit children more in terms of language
development and honing their reasoning and thinking skill. There are also numerous articles
found on the internet that argue on the benefit printed books and the author has not given
any counter arguments to substantiate his claim. For example, Kris Wouk (2021) Mention
how carrying multiple print books might soon become burdensome if someone chooses to
do so. From his consideration, we can see that it will make it difficult to children to bring
more than one book to wherever they go. Additionally, the point of view given by the author
is based on research findings conducted 9 years ago and with the proliferation information
about printed books. However, given how much easier it is for them, we can observe that
many parents are now encouraging the usage of eBooks among their kids.

Based on the weaknesses identified in the article, we suggest some improvements. Firstly,
the author must provide the latest research and data from reliable resources for printed book
advantages. To further persuade the readers of the preceding article, it is necessary that the
facts and research used were produced locally as compared to abroad. It is necessary to
interpret the information in the form of a graph or a table, which will assist the author in
better organizing the data and displaying trends and connections between the benefit printed
books and eBooks.

Moreover, we that today with the natural disaster that have happened recently such as
landslide. This issues will be even more convincing for parents to no not buy standard books
to help save the environment and will save the money. It also would be proper if the author
insert the disadvantages of printed books for example, by reducing the purchase of printed
books, it will also save the environment by not cutting down trees which is that trees will take
years to grow. This is Because most children usually use the books once and become
bored, these books usually end up in the trash or are recycled. E-books, on the other hand,
have zero waste. From this we can conclude that by using e-book can cut the cost of
shipping, printing, and keeping stock in the bookstores.
In conclusion, based on this point, the author has been able to evaluate the advantages and
cons of printed books over electronic books to determine which is more suitable for children.
The benefits of utilizing printed books versus e-books should be expose to their children
since at the young age.
