NARRATIVE REPORT

I. Introduction/Rationale/Objectives

Reading is one of the basic English skills which should be mastered by the students.
It is a process of transferring information from the writer to the reader. It is an important skill
in our daily life because it gives many advantages for us. Reading is similar to listening in
which it is a receptive skill; however, it involves students’ interaction in the form of visual
input of language. Interaction means that reading is most definitely an active process where
the students should be active in reading the text; they will predict and get the points of the
text. There should be connection between the readers’ knowledge and their prediction with
the text. Through reading, we can obtain many kinds of information which can expand our
knowledge.

In connection with DepEd’s commitment to provide quality, accessible, relevant and


liberating basic education for all, to promote love for reading, and to make every learner a
proficient reader, schools across the country are tasked to respond to every child a reader
program.

I. Narration of Accomplishment

According to the authors of English Expressway Book: “Reading is fundamental


to function in today’s society, it is a vital skill in finding a good job and is important because
it develop one’s mind”. It is magical to believe Janet Emig (1983) Viewpoint of teaching that,
“The learners learned because we teach” and one of the important skills that needs to be
developed in children is Reading. It opens up new worlds and enrich lives.
Every Grade 7 English teacher of Subic National High School conducted reading
assessment to determine the reading readiness of the learner. Modular distance learning did
not hinder the passion of the teachers to help and to promote to the learner the love for
reading. Part of the task as a reading teacher, Grade 7 English teachers prepared a reading
selections that can be used as a reading material to assess the reading level suited for Grade 7
learners.
Identifying the reading levels of our students is very important because through
this we are able to determine their strength and needs. We need to determine the reading
levels of the student so that we can provide immediate actions or immediate interventions for
them to become good readers.
As Grade 7 Reading Coordinator, part of my duties and responsibilities is to
spearhead every activity given to us by our department head and our reading coordinator.
Some of my accomplished activities were consolidation of the Grade 7 available learning
resources, consolidation of the Grade 7 reading selections, share in a LAC Session about
reading with the topic: RESPOND TO EVERY CHILD A READER PROGRAM,
spearhead the crafting of the GLAK (Guided Learning Activity Kit-School based),
and monitor the module distribution every week.
