Module no: 4
Semester and Quarter: 2nd –
Third Lesson: Normal Probability Distribution
Total points: 50

Instruction: Answer the following questions below.

I. Find the area and shade the region in a normal curve. (7 points each)

a. P(-1.23 < Z < 2.10)

A(z=0.3907)

A(z=0.4821)
=0.3907+0.4821
=0.8728
Answer: P(-1.23<z<2.10)= 0.8728

b. P(Z < 1.37)

A(z=1.37)
=0.50+0.4147
=0.9147

Answer: P(Z < 1.37)= 0.9147

c. P( Z > 0.34)
A(z=0.34)
=0.50 - 0.1331
=0.3669
Answer: P( Z > 0.34)= 0.3669

d. P(0.42 < Z < 3.05)

A(z=0.1628)
A(z=0.4989)
=0.4989 - 0.1628
=0.3361

Answer: P(0.42 < Z < 3.05)= 0.3361

II. The average sales every Monday of the stores in Food court is 83 with a standard
deviation of 7. What is the standard score of Potato Corner whose sale is 95? (6 points)
Given: Solution:
- =7 X−μ
- Z=
- =? σ
- =95 (95)−(83)
- Z=
- = 83 (7)
12
- Z=
7
- Z=1.71
Formula: Answer:
X−μ The standard score of Potato Corner whose
- Z=
σ sale is 95 is 1.71

III. The random variable X is normally distributed with a mean of 26 and standard deviation
of 5. Find the values of the random variable X and Z given the areas of the intervals
under the standardized normal curve. (8 points each)
a. between -1.02 and Z is 0.7655
Given:
- =5
- =?
- =?
- = 26
Formula:

Formula:
- X =Z +¿
Solution:
0.7655 - (-1.02)
0.7655 – 0.3461
0.4194
- Z=1.40
- X = (1.40)(5)+(26)
X = 33
Answer:
- X=33

b. to the right of Z is 0.0375

Given: Formula: Solution: Answer:
- =5 X =Z +¿ 0.50 – 0.0375 X= (1.78)(5)+26 X= 34.9
- =? 0.4625 X=34.9
- =? Z= 1.78
- = 26
