DECISION TO IMPLEMENT CORN FARMING IN SELUMA REGENCY

Corn is an agricultural commodity that has a central role in meeting national food needs besides
rice as a commodity. Corn can be used in various fields other than as food.

Based on information from the Ministry of Agriculture's Food Security Agency (BKP), the
availability of corn from 2014-2018 has decreased annually by 1.06%. The large number of
needs for corn, the availability of corn must remain sufficient to meet these needs.

Bengkulu Province, precisely in Seluma Regency, in terms of developing corn farming has very
good potential. In 2015, corn had a harvest area of 384 ha (BPS Seluma, 2018).

In running a farm, farmers are faced with a choice of how to run the farm. According to
Suratiyah (2008), a farmer is a manager, who when running a farm must be able to consider
economic conditions in making a decision. According to Supranto (2009), deciding or making
decisions in a popular way means choosing one of the many replacement options. Decisions
taken by farmers can be influenced by several factors.
Seluma Regency where rice is a commodity that is mostly cultivated, but not a few farmers
choose to do corn farming or choose to do plantation crop farming. Based on the conditions of
these farmers, it is important to know how the considerations of farmers in deciding the choice of
commodities to be cultivated in their land.
