(2 mins)

T explains: we can use reported speech to report what someone has said.
First, let's talk about the verb tense changes. Because the event happened in the past, so we
need to change the verbs accordingly.
So we'll change a sentence in present simple to past simple.
Similarly, to report a past simple sentence, we use the past perfect tense.
In special cases, we change "will" to "would" and "can" to "could".

(2 mins)

T explains: We also need to change pronouns when we report what someone said. Let's take
a look at these sentences.
When we report what she said, we need to change "I" to "she".
In the second example, we need to change "my" to "his" and "me" to "him."
In the last example, we need to change "we" to "they."

Words about time and places also change. Now look at the table and take notes these
changes.

(5 mins)

T shows the role play and says: You are A and I am B. Let's read the task and tell me the story.

T gives S some time to read. T explains some vocabulary if needed. S signals S to use the
vocabulary and structures learnt in this lesson as much as possible.

T gives S feedback if S:
- has included necessary and relevant vocabulary and structures.
- has successfully used the vocabulary learnt (at least 3 words)
- has successfully used the structures.
- made any other mistakes in grammar and pronunciation.

T helps S to correct these mistakes.

Sample story:

I were having lunch with my daughter at a restaurant when I found out that I had lost my
purse. I checked everywhere and couldn't find it. Fortunately, my daughter had enough cash
to pay for our meals so we avoided the hassle of calling our hotel to ask for their assistance.
Then, we retraced all our route but couldn't find it. Even though there was only a little change
and some traveler's checks in my purse, both my wallet and my passport were in there so I
am really worried about reporting my passport as missing. I decided to go to a police station
nearby and see if it's in there. This was my first time in that city so it was not easy at all to
navigate our way there to reach it. Well, we managed to get there after all. My impression of
the place was that the officers were really nice. They explained to me what should be done to
get a lost item back. I was having a good feeling about this and I was right. The police officer
said that I had to fill in a form, describing what I had lost, how the item looked like and
when I had lost it. Then they checked their system and it wasn't long until they returned it
back to me. They said that it had been handed in a couple of hours before. It was a total
relief! It turned out that I left my purse at a bench in the park near our hotel when my
daughter was asking me to buy some street food for her. Anyway, the police station there was
an absolute life-saver!

Please note the difference between the 2 platforms in adding text:

- For BBB platform, words will be showed during the typing process.

- For WizIQ platform, words won’t be showed during the typing process. Once the student
finishes his/her writing, T can then correct it.

If S hasn't done their homework:

T shows slide 23. T asks S to read the introduction, the first body paragraph and conclusion.
Then S will write the second body paragraph in slide 22.

Sample Answer:

(2) Firstly, exploring untouched landscapes can cause damage to the environment.
(3) Going deep into a jungle or venturing to the Antarctic, for example, requires travelers to
participate in many complex and physically demanding activities such as diving, rock climbing
or caving to cross rough terrains.
TOEIC WRITING
Question: Today more and more tourists are visiting places where conditions are difficult. Do you think
adventure tourism in unexplored parts of the world should be encouraged?
Read the sample essay and complete the first body paragraph.
Adventure tourism in remote and exotic landscapes is gaining popularity in recent years. As far as I am concerned,
adventure tours should be promoted despite some of its shortcomings.
Body 1
(1)......................................... (2) ........................... For instance, wild animals and their habitats may be disturbed by loud noises or
the improper disposal of trash from tourism activities. Moreover, it is dangerous for travelers to engage in this form of travel.
(3)........................... As a result, possible accidents may unexpectedly happen and injure participants.

However, there are many reasons why adventure tourism is appealing to travelers. To begin with, adventure tourism
helps people gain a sense of accomplishment. Regardless of age and size, taking on an adventure can create feelings
associated with personal achievement. The more difficult the trek and the greater the challenge, the more sense of
personal achievement a tourist will feel when he accomplishes those goals. Besides, extreme tourism guarantees a
once-in-a-lifetime experience. It provides tourists with a great opportunity to see pristine places on Earth with their
own eyes and engage in cultural exchange activities with local inhabitants whom they would otherwise never have
had a chance to get to know. A traveler will also able to relive these memorable moments in vivid detail and cheer
himself up whenever he feels miserable in life.

To conclude, even though taking an adventure into the unknown can leave certain impacts on nature and carry some
risks to participants, I would argue that it should be encouraged because it gives travelers a sense of achievement and
unique experience. 25
