Activity 3 – Finals

1. Discuss the differences between Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo.

Noli Mi Tangere is a love story or a sentimental novel for our country. El

Filibusterismo, also known as Gomburza, is more of a political novel about retaliation
and anger for the three priests who were put to death. One similarity is that it was only
written by Dr. Rizal, Jose. Because of what they represent, the narrative concentrates
on vengeance, discipline, and fighting. In terms of objective and goal, it is
comparable. Both of these novels seek to inform the public, and they were released in
order for Filipinos to be aware of what is happening in their country.

Both works are related, and even in the midst of political and historical
changes in the Philippines, a fictitious story was created to politically and historically
legitimize the Spanish colonization period. The distinction is that El Filibusterismo is
viewed as a darker and more developed novel than Noli me Tangere. Furthermore, in
El Filibusterismo, Rizal shows a society on the verge of rebellion, with native minds
provoked and revolutionary forces organized. And the message that the tale conveys is
about the current system of managing the Philippines through dishonest and self-
seeking authorities who are influenced by the friars and are devoted to their interests
in one thing. In conclusion, Noli Mi Tangere is a romance tale filled with humor:
lightness, intelligence, and love for society. El Filibusterismo, on the other hand, is a
political tale filled with bitterness, hatred, violence, and grief.
