KVNHS LAUNCHES PROJECT GETS-KA TO ENHANCE STUDENTS' MATH SKILLS

By Michael M. Moldes

Kasiglahan National High School has launched Project GETS-Ka to aid students in enhancing their
mathematical skills. GETS-Ka stands for Gearing and Improving The Skills in numeracy of Kasiglahenyos.
The project's main objective is to support students who struggle in their Mathematics education by
providing remedial assistance.

Mathematics Department at KVNHS aims to sustain the GETS-Ka initiative, which is focused on
improving the numeracy proficiency of students in grades 7-10. By doing so, the program aims to help
students hone the mathematical skills they acquired during their primary education and reduce the
challenges that they may encounter as they move up to the next grade level.

‘’Students under the project GETS-Ka will get tutorial sessions focusing on the basic fundamental
operations in Mathematics specifically operations on whole numbers, integers, and algebraic
expressions. Through this, the students' numeracy skills focusing on the fundamental operations will be
enhanced and mastered,’’ said Ms. Rose Marie De Vera, Grade 8 math teacher.

In the previous school year 2021-2022, Project GETS-Ka successfully improved the fundamental math
skills of 21 out of 22 Grade 7 students. In the current school year 2022-2023, the project has benefited
638 out of 653 students from Grades 7 to 10. Despite the limited face-to-face tutorial sessions, these
students use the skills they learned in their daily Math classes.

‘’Since the project GETS-Ka targets the lagging behind students and helping them in resolving their
learning gaps, I think this project will help in producing more competitive and confident graduates from
our school,’’ she stated.

According to Ms. De Vera, Project GETS-Ka will continue to give tutorials for high school students
since they just got back into the face-to-face scheme. On the other hand, they are open to giving
additional programs or revisions if necessary.
