ECCLESIOLOGY/HIISTORY OF THE CHURCH RE 5 3 3 hours per week
Course This course deals with the study of the Church. The first task of this course is to provide a greater understanding of the nature of the Church with its different images and
Description characteristics. It will also discuss its foundation and growth. It will also explore on the Church as it is today from the time of the celebration of the Second Vatican Council with
its innovations. Part of this course is a study of the Philippine Church and its concerns. Part of this course is a discussion on the Supporting Themes of the Communion of the
Saints and the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is hoped to foster greater devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary considering her role in Christ’s work of redemption while challenging us to
become like Mary in her faithfulness to the mission entrusted to her.
The last part of this course deals on the journey of the Church in the course of History. It will explore the highlights and shadows of the Church during different periods of
history starting from the birth of the Church at Pentecost to the Period of the Second Vatican Council and beyond. To facilitate the discussions, this course will be divided into
three periods of Church History- the Ancient Period, the Medieval Period and the Modern Church History. The fourth part of this course will be deal with the coming of
Christianity in the Philippines, its growth and development. It is designed to help students understand how God has sustained and nourished Holy Mother Church from its early
beginning and the present times. It is hoped that this subject will guide students to value and commit themselves in the service of the building up of Holy Mother Church.
