THE BROKEN ONE

He is not a nerd, not famous nor playboy. He's just a normal boy, a normal son, and a normal
student. Yeshua Ramirez is 24 years old and has a Traumatic Brain Injury because of a car
accident. He has headaches on a regular basis, but he never tells anyone, instead he simply takes
his pills and goes about his day as if nothing has happened. One day at the hospital he woke up,
the light that greeted him when he opened his eyes dazzled him. Although his vision is still hazy,
he is able to distinguish a person. When Yeshua saw his mother wake up, he noticed that she was
both delighted and worried. She pressed the nurse call button as quickly as she could and ran to
her son, who had just woken up. When the door opened, a doctor and a group of nurses
proceeded to see him. They checked his vitals, and the doctor used a slit lamp to examine his
eyes. Her mother stood behind the nurses, staring at him with concern. The doctor asked him if
he's okay and he answered with a nod of his head, "I'm good, although my head hurts a little,
but it's bearable." Dr. Gomez gave him a smile and told Mrs. Ramirez that her son will be okay
and the nurses will follow up on his medications. Yeshua's mother gave Dr. Gomez a heartfelt
thank you with a happy smile on her face.

After Yeshua's medications, he finally went home with her mother. There was this gloomy
feeling inside the house but he set that aside and started to unpack his things. "We'll get
through this, I love you, my mini Rico." her mother murmured as she entered his room and
held him. Despite the fact that her mother's eyes glistened with tears, he could tell she was trying
very hard not to cry in front of him. His beloved father, Rico Ramirez, died in a car crash 4
months ago, that was the first month of September where they are celebrating Yeshua's birthday.
His dad and him were driving home to celebrate his birthday with his mom, everything was
perfect. The house was fully decorated, the foods are ready, his friends were there, and Martha,
his mother, was patiently waiting for them to come home. The radio on the car was on full blast
and he and his father was singing along with the song, enjoying their moment. It happened so
very fast, their car flipped upside down and the front of the truck that hit them was broken. His
head was aching and there were bloods everywhere, he can't fully turn his head because of the
pain he's suffering from so he tried to look at his dad to find him unconscious with lots of blood
on his body with the seatbelt broken.
He cried and cried until his visions started to blur and his head aches so much, he can't take the
pain anymore. He closed his eyes and there was no one he can think of, just his dad beside him.
He can't take the pain away that he's feeling and he can't move a muscle because it will only
make the pain worse, his mind was becoming unconscious but before that, he heard the sound of
help and the ambulance wailing. This was the reason why he had a brain injury. After he was
discharged from the hospital, he and his mother decided for him not to go to college and to take
care of his health first. He was always alone in his bedroom, trying not to talk much. He still
can't forget about the incident that had happened, he started to hate his birthday then.

When college started, he was still suffering from the memory of the incident and his injury, he
still wished nothing happened and his father was still alive. It was not easy for him, he still
suffers from headaches on occasion, and he must bring his painkillers to school to help him cope.
He enrolled at Yale University and completed his studies in order to become a doctor, something
he and his father both aspire to do in the future. "Are you all right?" a lovely young lady said.
He was taken aback and tried to move his lips, but there was no sound coming out of his mouth.
Yeshua thought he was having an attack since his heart was beating so fast. His attention is
completely focused on the girl in front of him, and the rest of the world is fuzzy. He felt so stupid
for not speaking up and reacting to the girl who had caught his eye and drew his attention. "I
think you're in a deep thinking, the teacher called you five times," the girl stated as she
tapped his shoulders. The teacher asked him if there was something wrong and he answered
"No, Ms. Lopez, I just outspaced a little bit, I'm sorry what are you asking?" he apologized.
The girl in front of him looked at him with a smile. "What are some reasons that make our
hearts beats faster Mr. Ramirez?" the teacher asked him. He can't help but thought of 'Why
does everything connects to what I'm feeling?' but still he calm himself. "Everyone has a racing
heart from time to time. Stress, exercise, or even too much alcohol or caffeine can cause
your heart to beat faster than normal. Or even when you feel so loved, like seeing someone
so beautiful you can't take off your eyes on them." Yeshua answered while looking at the girl
in front of him. "Clichè," the girl said with a grin on her face. His peers make fun of him by
saying things like "he's corny" and "he's got a flowery mouth.” Even though he didn't like to be
the focus of attention, he appreciated the girl's attention to him and the smile she gave him when
he answered Ms. Lopez's question. He didn't have an easy time in college, but he made friends,
found happiness with them, and didn't have any trouble with his peers.

The girl he met was named Rin, she was the one who he became friends with and it turned to be
that she's his soulmate. They continue their relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend and Rin
became a lot help to him. She was the one who taught Yeshua that sometimes, he needs to let go
of the memories that had a bad influence on him. She pushed him to talk more with his mother
and clear things out. She became Yeshua's guardian angel. Every month they'll visit his father on
the cemetery and talk about how things are going. He remembered how he introduced Rin to his
father, "Hey dad, I and mom miss you so much. This is the girl I've been telling you about
when I come here, she gave me strength dad. She gives out the best in me and I love her for
that. Please give her your blessings because someday when the time comes, I'm going give
her the ring she deserves and make her the happiest girl she'll ever be. She's the love of my
life dad, I will not let her go. I will love her how you love mom." Rin cried and laugh at the
same time because Yeshua cried so hard that makes his face red. He knows she's crazy and that's
the girl he loved that makes him stunned as the first day they met.
