There is a number of skills that people use throughout their entire life. They learn these skills through
various experiences in life. Some of them are learned from their surroundings and some of them have
to learn by themselves. In this essay, I would like to mention a skill that is hard to master, Speaking
Skills in a foreign language.
It becomes imperative nowadays to learn more than one language to be successful in life. For
instance, the English language has become a universal language. So, no matter what our language is,
we have to learn the English language to expand our business on the internet or in foreign countries.
Learning the English language is easy but it takes time to improve our speaking skills. It needs
so much practice to be fluent in English as it needs proper practice, knowledge of grammar, proper
vocabulary, etc. To get knowledge of all these things and improve our speaking skills accurately, it
takes more than a year. But once we acquire this skill, we can open a door to numerous opportunities
to expand our business of any kind at an international level. Talk about a Skill that takes a long time to
learn
To improve this skill, the number of institutes are available in every city. They hone student’s
speaking skills properly but giving time to learn this skill is mandatory as the maximum time to give its
practice, the maximum improvement we can get in it.
Topic 2: Write about an annoying problem in your neighborhood.

SAMPLE
I live in a beautiful town in the South of Vietnam. Although my hometown is not so big, it is
suitable for people who love peaceful atmosphere to live and enjoy life. However, there are some
problems that appear recently which are really annoying and make the residents feel unpleasant. For
years, the government has been investing in the development of the industry therefore there are a number
of factories have been built around my neighborhood which causes so much pollution. As a result, many
people are feeling unwell and want the government to apply some rules in order to reduce the problem
and bring back peace. From my point of view, there are some solutions that can help to solve the
irritating problem.
On one hand, governments could reduce air pollution in many ways. First, they could introduce laws
to put a limit on factories’ gas emissions or force companies to use renewable energy in production.
Second, they could also innovate the public transport system to become more convenient and greener.
In this way, governments can encourage people to take public transport instead of driving, therefore
reducing emissions.
On the other hand, individuals should also be responsible to lower pollution levels in their surroundings.
They can take buses and subways or other means of public transportation rather than driving, which
could reduce the number of exhaust fumes from vehicles. Also, people should purchase reusable
products and recycle as much as possible to avoid releasing too much waste. For example, Vietnamese
people are recommended to use reusable or paper bags when going shopping instead of plastic bags to
cut down on plastic bag consumption.
In conclusion, both national governments and individuals must understand the harmful impact they
have on the environment and be responsible to ease the damage.
Topic 3: Write about your plan for a happier life.

Everybody has a plan for the future. Though the future is uncertain and many times
unpredictable, I believe that to some extent our future depends on our actions in the past and present.
In the future, I want to run a mega shopping mall business where my involvement would not be required
to run the daily business and I would enjoy my time by visiting different places of the world.
I’d like to share with you my plan, it is a small online business in which I intend to sell some
cute items and baby clothes through social networks like Facebook. It will be running at the beginning
of the summer this year. However, I will prepare carefully all necessary things before. I will do the plan
with my close friend. While I take responsibility for advertising and decorating a small stall, my friends
look for some providing companies and new types of clothes that will attract more customers. There is
a lot of work we will have to do but I feel so excited and this work will not be too difficult. Furthermore,
I also think I will have a little bit nervous because it will be the first time I bravely open a business. But
I believe that it will be successful because online business is a new trend around the world and many
people in my country enjoy shopping online usually. Moreover, I think the online babies-clothed market
will be taking a lot of attention from the office- women who do not have a lot of time going around and
searching for something for their babies.
Hopefully, I will enjoy the retirement and the trips. Though I am not sure about the future, I
have already planned for it. Because I believe proper planning and initiation are half of the total task
and fulfilling dream. I have already taken some steps toward achieving my future plan.
Topic 4: Write about things you are going to have done in the next month.
Outline

Sample
There is no doubt that graduation is the dream of every student before moving on to learning from
real life and colliding with life. I am going to have attended this big ceremony for my graduation
next month.
I have spent a long time studying and trying non-stop to get the best results when I graduate.
Obviously, I will be rewarded for my efforts. Fortunately, I will be honored to be the speaker of
thanks to the teachers and the school during the past 4 school years, so I am going to be well-prepared
for that day from clothes, makeup, and speech. On that day, I will smile all day long knowing that I
have made my family proud of me. While I was studying for my degree, I made a lot of good friends
and this is one of the reasons why graduation day will be so memorable. We will share some really
good times together during our time as students because I know that the older we are, the less time
we can spend with friends. Moreover, I am sure that I will remember everything about my graduation
day: my party, cake, dress, makeup, hair, cap, and gown, and the gifts I get from family and friends.
In conclusion, graduation day is always the biggest prize for hard work and continuous effort in
education.

Sample essay 1
In fact, the house is the most significant thing for each person and I am not an exception.
Currently, my whole family and I have been residing in Da Lat which is a breathtakingly beautiful
mountainous area in Vietnam. That is the reason why my house is a three-story detached home made of
glass and wood with an outside patio.
Although the house is located on a hill which is far from the city center, my special house still
has a variety of features. I'm so concerned about plants and animals, my house has a spotless garden
with many kinds of flowers and trees. There is no better feeling than being able to take in Da Lat's
picture-perfect scenery. I have my own room with walls painted violet, which is kind of a peaceful color.
The air outside is fresh. I usually open the window to enjoy the wind and sunshine, which will help cool
down my room without an air conditioner. Since I spend most of my time staying at home, my room
means the whole world to me. It’s like a friend who is always there to share ups and downs with me.
Last but not least, my home includes an open-plan modern kitchen and a large living area with a fireplace
and a comfortable dining room where I occasionally invite all of my friends over for dinner.
In conclusion, I think our house is big enough for us yet still a warm and cozy place that I call home.
This house is a blessed place, where I and my family can be secure, have all we need, and share our
sadness and happiness.
Topic 5: How accessible is your house or apartment/ living area?
Outline
1. Opening:
- Give information on the location and type of your house.
- Say the general reason why or why not it is or isn’t accessible.
2. Main paragraph:
- Give the reasons and tell your experience. You should give 2 to 3 reasons plus your
experience for saying those reasons.
3. Closing paragraph:
- Say do you like or not like your house because of accessibility issues and do you intend to
move because of it.
Sample Essay 2
I moved to Ho Chi Minh city to pursue higher education six years ago and have since changed
living spaces twice. I used to live near my university in Thu Duc to conveniently commute to study.
Afterward, I relocated to District 2, which is my current place. My apartment is fairly accessible to
central districts such as District 1, District 7, and Binh Thanh and does not suffer heavy traffic. I
attribute the accessibility of my place to its being sparsely populated (dân cư thưa thưa thớt) and its
many connections to important locations via major transportation infrastructure.
The majority of District 2 is underdeveloped in terms of residential infrastructure. There are

several fully-developed wards such as An Phu or Thao Dien but the rest was empty land waiting for
zoning. I have been to many places near my house that are just bare roads and uninhabited plots. There
are even small forest-like patches of land that seem to be untouched. The reason for the lack of
development is mainly complicated legal work to obtain permits to build houses.
In addition to lesser population density, District 2 is also well-connected through major roads
and bridges. You can travel to District 7 through Phu My bridge, arrive at District 1 via Thu Thiem
tunnel, move to Binh Thanh over the Saigon bridge or take Rach Chiec bridge to reach Thu Duc. This
infrastructure affords residents the flexibility to seek many job opportunities elsewhere. This is the
reason that I choose an apartment in District 2 as my home.
Having lived here for nearly four years, I like my apartment and the accessibility that it brings.
In the future, I have no intention to move elsewhere because this is the most convenient place that I
currently reside in.
Topic 6: write an article about improving your city or neighborhood.
Outline:
1. Opening:
- Why should you improve your city or neighborhood?
- What aspects or actions could you do to contribute?
2. Main paragraph:
- List actions that can be done.
- Explain how those actions could improve the neighborhood and give examples if possible.
- Emphasize the importance of improving the neighborhood.
Sample Essay:
Our neighborhood is the place where we spend most of our time. Therefore, it is the
responsibility of every resident to improve the environment in which they live. We can either make
our neighborhood better socially by strengthening the relationship between people or make it safer
or cleaner physically by implementing changes to the environment.
In terms of social aspects, the community can agree on how disputes would be settled so
that families can remain on good terms even after a major incident has happened. Additionally,
they can set out which activities are appropriate, and which are not. For example, karaoke is a
neighborhood-wide issue as everyone can be affected by the noise. Having rules that everyone
agreed on in advance can facilitate future disagreement and ease tension between households.
Another important aspect is the actual environment that neighbors share. Individual efforts
can be made to maintain the surrounding cleanliness such as cleaning up after yourself, putting
trash in trash cans, or using a bicycle instead of a motorbike. In addition to personal actions,
concerted efforts to reduce pollution can positively impact the well-being of the whole community.
A car-free or motorbike-free day is one popular policy that saw success in many neighborhoods
recently. It both reduces immediate noise and air pollution as well as removes dangerous fast-
moving vehicles from the road where children usually play.
Neighborhoods are important places for families and communities. If people who live in
them want to improve it, they need to show the willingness to act and join their effort to implement
positive changes.

Topic 7: Describing a trend
Outline:
1. Opening:
- Say what the trend is.
2. Main paragraph:
- Name reasons for people following that trend.
- Describe the current situation that is happening around the trend.
- Give examples if possible.
- Why would this trend continue or stop in your opinion?
Sample Essay:
A great number of students now prefer to pursue their higher education in other countries such
as the U.S, U.K and Canada. This is a more popular option among those with strong financial
support and a good English foundation.
Firstly, students who would like to study abroad say that foreign universities offer quality
courses and modern facilities. Secondly, the learning environment is international, which means
that they will meet friends from different cultures outside of school and broaden their experience.
Finally, many students cite better career opportunities as the main reason because the place where
they would like to work in the future is international corporations that offer higher salaries and
better benefits.
Although the benefit of studying abroad is apparent, enrollment applications, as well as legally
designated countries, are as difficult as ever, especially after the covid-19 pandemic. In particular,
from 2018 to 2022, the number of Vietnamese students in the U.S. dropped by around 15% due to
pandemic prevention measures. In the same period, the process of immigration to Japan for
educational purposes was halted entirely. Similarly, other countries also put restrictions on
immigration during this time to mitigate virus transmission. Nevertheless, we saw renewed interest
in studying abroad starting from 2022. The number of scholarships offered by STEM-focus
universities located in Europe and the U.K for international students is on the rise. In fact, from the
beginning of this year, there have been more students who have traveled to European countries to
study than the number of the last two years combined.
Overseas education has always been an interest for many students, and it will continue to
attract more as newer opportunities open in different countries.
Topic 8: write about someone you know who took a risk.
Outline:
1. Opening:
- Who is that person, what is his/her relationship to you
- What is the risk that he/she took.
2. Main paragraph:
- Describe the circumstance/reason that he/she took that risk.
- Explain why is it a risk (dangerous situation, risky business,…)
- Describe what happened next, if possible say why was he/she successful.
- Conclude the main reason for his/her sucess (hard work, right time and place, …)
Sample Essay
There are many stories of people who took risks and made it rich on the internet or in
newspapers. I would like to share one such story from my own experience, about one of my uncles
who built a fortune by selling ice.
My uncle is the older brother of my mother, they grew up really poor and moved to Vung
Tau when they were still young. Afterward, my uncle dropped out of middle school and did all
sorts of labor that were available back then. There weren’t many types of employment as they
mostly related to farming or husbandry.
Vung Tau was starting to become a tourist attraction and my uncle saw the opportunities
to get in the tourism industry. He wanted to open a food and drink location to serve tourists but at
the time, he lacked the land as well as the experience to run such an establishment. However, he
did have some experience driving so he thought he could supply those services with a commodity
that they all need - ice. This is a risky decision because it was a niche area which did not receive
much attention and the up-front investment was high. Nevertheless, my uncle borrowed some
money from our family members and started his business. The business turned out to be a huge
success because of my uncle’s hard work to build a network of supply for wedding halls and pubs.
Over the years, he has become the main ice supplier for many places around the city and his
business has grown exponentially. He was able to pay off his debt, build a nice house, and put his
kids in university. Right now, his ice-supplying business is still going on, but at a smaller scale
because he is old and cannot work as hard as he did.
Ice was cheap to make and cheap to buy so not many people think about it as something to
get rich off. My uncle took the risk to do a business that no one really thinks of and it pays off in
the end.
Topic 9: Write an email recommending yourself for one of the positions: sales
representative, a chef in a restaurant, an English teacher, a dog walker, or a babysitter.
Outline:
1. Opening:
- Introduce who you are and how you came across the post for that position.
- Express your intent to apply for the position.
2. Main paragraph:
- List reasons why you want to take this position.
- List qualification, personalities or experiences that make you suitable for this position
- Say that you are looking forward to working for them and want to hear from them soon.
Sample Email
To whom it may concern,
My name is John, I am a sophomore at the University of Technology and Education. I found
your job posting for the part-time job of digital marketing assistant on Facebook and I would like to
apply for that position.
I want to gain real experience in the area of marketing, especially on digital platforms such as
Facebook, TikTok or Zalo. This experience is valuable to me because I get to apply marketing
knowledge from university to real-world circumstances to deepen my understanding of the major I am
pursuing. This also helps me develop competency that is advantageous in my future career after I
graduate from my school.
I believe that my study in marketing will provide a solid foundation to perform the support
role of digital marketing assistant well. I am also ready to learn new things and willing to put in extra
effort to handle extensive responsibility. I have done some offline marketing for one of my school’s
events. While that experience is only somewhat related, it could be of good use in the role that I applied.

Topic 11: Write about your general views on a digital news platform.
Outline:
1. Opening:
- State the popularity of digital platforms that serve news.
- Say your overall opinion (good or bad, going better or downhill, have potential or stale)
2. Main paragraph:
- Provide the supporting evidence or reasons for your opinion, you should have 2 or 3 pieces of
evidence or reasons.
Either:
- Provide action if the digital news platform is bad or going downhill.
Or:
- Emphasize the good aspect of a news platform if it is good or has potential.
Sample essay
With the advent of the internet, digital news platforms have become the main method with which
we consume news. There are many popular Vietnamese news websites such as vnexpress, thanhnien,
kenh14, etc. Digital news used to be convenient, but it has gotten worse in terms of quality in recent years.
Firstly, there are many clickbait titles that do not represent what is actually talked about in the
article. The reason for misleading headlines is simply to get people to click on them. Without clicks, the
article gains no view and consequently makes no money on it. Getting people to view the article is the
only way for them to generate revenue to cover their expenses. People are drawn to dramatic events so
online publications gradually increase the level of clickbait headlines to compete with each other to get
the most view out of it.
Secondly, the writing isn’t as good because there is less time to report on the matter. Rumors spread
faster online via forums and chat groups and digital news has to catch up with them otherwise people are
not going to regularly visit them to read the latest things. Therefore, there is less time for reporting, writing,
and editing than the standard of journalism. In contrast, paper news always has a day to collect and report
on matters from the previous day and publish them early the next morning, which spares plenty of time
to make corrections if necessary.
Online news needs to move away from advertising as the main income to reduce those problems
above and transition to more sustainable models such as subscription so that readers can enjoy good
reports of important events.
