What Should Be Prepared Before Presentation Using English?

The first thing to do before making a presentation in English is to prepare yourself by preparing
presentation materials. Preparing presentation material consists of several things, the first thing is
to prepare the appropriate material. Make sure you only use the material that has a direct
correlation with the topic you are talking about.
For example, if you are doing a presentation on the digestive system of the human body, the
material that you have to prepare is what organs are included in the digestive system of the
human body and what their functions are.
After mastering the material that you have prepared, you can make a presentation file on
powerPoint or other media where you usually prepare presentation material. Don’t forget to make
an attractive powerPoint, by relying on attractive visuals such as the use of fonts, design
templates, and the use of images to support your presentation material. You can also prepare a
mindmap to make it easier for you to map presentation materials into PowerPoint. Don’t forget to
find out the vocabulary in English related to the material you are presenting.
Apart from preparing presentation materials, you also have to practice. This exercise is very
important, through this exercise you can calculate the duration of your presentation, and how you
organize the words you should and shouldn’t use in the presentation. This exercise also aims to
increase your confidence before the presentation, invite your family or friends to watch you
practice so that you get used to speaking in front of other people.
Finally, prepare your appearance for the presentation. Prepare neat clothes and get enough sleep
before making the presentation so that your face and body look fresh and fit.
If the previous point discussed things that you have to prepare before the presentation, at this
point, we will discuss what you should do during the presentation. In a presentation, there is a
structure that you should pay attention to. In order to structure your presentation so that your
presentation is more organized and focused, there are a number of steps that you must fulfill, the
steps are as follows:

The 1st Step

Give greetings and greetings of thanks for being present at the event:
- Assalamu’alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh / Thank you for coming to… / I am glad to
see you all.
- Good morning / afternoon / evening everybody / friends / guys.
- Good morning./afternoon ladies and gentlemen. It’s an honor to meet you here
Example of sentences:
Good morning class, good morning Mr. Lecturer. First, we want to thank you all for your
presence in this class and today’s presentation.

After saying the greeting, several expressions can be made at this step
a. Get Audience attention
We can use one of the example sentences below
1) If I could have everybody’s attention
2) If we can start
3) Perhaps we should begin now
4) Let’s get started
b. Welcome the audience
1) Welcome to the……
2) Thank you for joining us today
3) On behalf of my college, I’d like to welcome you

The 2 nd Step

Introduce yourself / your group.

- Let me introduce myself. My name is… I am from…
- Let me introduce myself and my partner. I am ... and here is my partner is,…. We are from…

Example of sentences:
Before we begin, let us introduce ourselves. My name is Andra, the lady here is Araminta, and
the man over there is Nick. We are from group 3.

The 3 rd Step

Explain the content, purpose, and goals in the presentation

- I would like to talk about ...
- In this presentation, we will discuss ...
- In this opportunity, I would like to present ...

Example in the sentence:

So, we realize that not everyone knows and has been wondering about what is and how is Panda
Diplomacy. Extraordinary isn’t it? A Panda to do diplomacy. How can this be? That’s why we
are here today to tell you what it is and all you might want to know about Panda Diplomacy.
Let’s start with how it began.

Notes when you explain the content of the presentation, don’t forget to use the following:

• Use linking words for the transitions of each sentence and to show results, comparisons, and
reasons such as: First, then, finally, because, since, but, however, although, in addition, therefore,
consequently.
Example:
So first, we will begin with what is Panda Diplomacy. Then, we will tell you how we can know a
term called ‘Panda Diplomacy.’ Since we know, there must be some curiosity unsolved within
yourself. We decide to have a QnA session at the end of this presentation. However, the limited
time we have in limited person is allowed to raise a hand to ask us a question.

• Include examples to support arguments in your presentation.

Example:
One of the examples of the successful Panda Diplomacy is with Malaysia. In 2014, Malaysia
received pandas as a remark for the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Malaysia and
China. Malaysia is the biggest allies of China in Asia. Besides Malaysia, China also sends
pandas to those countries which have significant economic cooperation with them.

Fourth Step

Conduct a question and answer session.

- Any question?
- Anybody would like to ask?
- Just feel free to interrupt me if you have something to ask.

Example of sentences:
Okay, from everything we’ve told you about Panda Diplomacy and still have your question
unanswered, feel free to ask us here.

Fifth Step

After you explain the content, your goal, and objectives in the presentation, and hold a question
and answer session, don’t forget to make or convey conclusions about the material you have
conveyed.
- In conclusion …
- In summary ...
- To summarize ...
- To sum up ...

Example in the sentence:

To conclude everything, we now know that Panda Diplomacy has a role in China’s foreign
policy. In this diplomacy, Panda act as the diplomatic gifts given by China for the other countries

Sixth Step

After you have finished giving your presentation up to a question and answer session and
provide conclusions. Don’t forget to close your presentation and say Thank You.
- Thank you for your attention.
- Thank you very much for your great attention, ladies, and gentlemen.
Example in the sentence:
It’s been a great discussion with you all, we don’t feel like we are the ones who present
something but we all did. Thank you very much for your great attention and active participation
throughout this presentation.
