Greenpeace, 2012, ‘Nuclear power: dirty, dangerous, and expensive’, Greenpeace

International

There are significant disadvantages of exploiting nuclear power are discussed in this article.

The article's headline is "Nuclear power: dirty, dangerous and expensive" and the

organization is Greenpeace. The main idea of this article is nuclear energy has brought

detrimental effects and long-term consequences on human health and the environment. Many

scientists and environmentalists from around the world may find this information useful.

Through this article, the author's main goal is to discuss serious drawbacks of nuclear power.

Greenpeace provides readers an example of two nuclear accidents. The Fukushima and

Chernobyl disasters were the biggest screw-ups in recent history, with massive amounts of

radioactive materials were contaminated to the atmosphere. Furthermore, Greenpeace finds

that high radiation causes health problems on humans and people become unemployed as

they leave the contaminated areas. Aside from that, nuclear reactor's cost is also mentioned as

drawbacks.

The central thesis is perfectly logical in combining the main idea with clear and persuasive

supporting points in the title and the subtitles. Therefore, readers can easily understand the

author’s purpose. Nevertheless, this article is a one-sided argument because Greenpeace

focuses solely on the disadvantage's sides of atomic power. To illustrate, the article primarily

addresses the expenses associated with the construction nuclear reactors, ignoring the

usefulness of clean energy. Despite the lack of information on the positive features, this
article is highly persuasive with sufficient statements and supporting

points, written in a methodical form.

In conclusion, the article provides enough details to broaden understanding of nuclear power

utilization and to give a variety of perspectives on the subject. Additionally, the paper might

serve as a useful reference for nuclear energy experts and environmentalists.
