1Something that should be a reality is still far away.

According to the report presented by UN Women in

September 2022, at the current rate, we still have 300
years to go to achieve full gender equality. Slightly less,
140, to achieve an equitable representation of women in
positions of power and leadership. And 40, to achieve the
same in national parliaments. Too much time.

2.In other areas, the figures do not improve. To end child

marriage by 2030, we would need to go 17 times faster
than today. 17 times! And the result will be suffered by
millions of girls deprived of their rights and exposed to an
adult life for which they are not prepared and to the risk of
suffering violence, abuse and maltreatment with very
serious consequences for their physical and mental health.

3. The decline in poverty reduction is also worrisome. At

the end of 2022, the number of women living in extreme
poverty was estimated to be around 383 million compared
to 368 for men and children, which means that many
millions of women lack sufficient income to cover basic
needs such as adequate food, clothing and housing.
4.In the 21st century, violence against women and girls
continues to be one of the most prevalent human rights
violations in the world. This is revealed by a study
prepared by UNODC and UN Women on femicide, which
indicates that around 56% of all women and girls
intentionally murdered in 2021 were at the hands of their
intimate partners or other family members. That is: every
little more than 11 minutes a woman or girl was killed by
people they knew. Terrible, right? And it is no less gender
violence in Spain. So far this year, there are already 9
women murdered at the hands of their partners or ex-
partners. A total of 1,191 since 2003, the year the records
began.
