Module 1-The Components of Communication
SOURCE- a person who has an idea, feeling, experience that they wish to share with another
person. The main focus of communication.
MESSAGES- is a set of written, pictorial, verbal, and/or non-verbal symbols that represents a
personalized reality.
RECEIVER- is the person who takes the message into account, and thereby is directly linked to
the source.
NOISE- defined and explained as any intended or unintended stimulus that affects the fidelity of
a sender’s message.
CHARACTERISTICS OF COMMUNICATION
COMMUNICATION IS SYMBOLIC
it represents the images, structure, verbal or non-verbal.
COMMUNICATION IS CONTEXTUAL
always occurs in a context, and the nature of communication depends in large measure on
this context. Involves a number of variables we need to examine.

o Occasion
o Time
o Number of participants.
