Introduction

A pleasant afternoon everyone especially to our dear panelists and adviser! I am

Catherine Perez and I’ll be presenting my Project proposal entitled “ADDITIONAL PORTABLE
TOILET FOR TEMPORARY RESTROOM OF MANPOWER AND STAFF AT CONSTRUCTION SITE OF
BALDO CONSTRUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION (BCDC)”.

Opening Prayer

Before we start, Let’s bow are head and feel the presence of the Lord.

Lord for your guidance and love. Thank you for this opportunity to present my Project
Proposal. Thank you for giving me these Panelists who will help me improve the study. Thank
you for my adviser, who invested her time in my work. Secondly, help me in my defense. May I
not be overly-sensitive when offered correction, but may I also know the difference between
personal opinion and areas where I clearly could have done better. May I listen to the council of
my elders, and may the defense be a reasonably edifying experience for all involved. Bless my
advisor, and bless my panelists. Thank you for their investment in reading and commenting on
my work. Please help us, as we meet this day, to draw closer to you and to each other, For
Jesus' sake. Amen.

Now let's quickly break down the title one by one.

According to Vaughan, access to adequate toilet facilities is a basic human need and as
such, should be freely available in any setting, including the workplace. In most cases,
particularly in office environments, this is already a given but not all workplace toilet facilities
are created equal. In reality, some toilet facilities are not at par with basic standards of quality
and safety. This, in turn, can affect overall employee morale and happiness. Having adequate
facilities also means that people should not have to queue for a long time when they need to
use the toilet. It also means separate facilities for men and women, both with lockable doors. It
means toilets should be clean, properly maintained and equipped with a steady supply of toilet
paper, soap, hot and cold running water, and drying facilities, among others. For women’s
toilets, a means for disposing sanitary dressing is also necessary.

A clean work environment, which includes toilet facilities, promotes a healthier work
environment. It will reduce the spread of viruses and bacteria, which can spread in the
workplace and adversely affect performance and attendance. In effect, this can support
productivity goals. In some cases, poorly maintained workplace toilets can drive employees to
search farther for more suitable toilets which takes time away from work or a proper break
time. It can even cause workplace injuries, for which employers can be held liable.

In our company’s case, Baldo Construction and Development Corporation, though there
are existing portable restrooms and toilets, those are not enough to accommodate 371
manpower and 48 staff, thus, additional portable toilets and restrooms need to be installed.
Additionally, toilets and restrooms are mandatory requirement by law. Article 19 of the Labor
Code provides that all establishments, projects, sites, and all places where work is being
undertaken shall have the following free welfare facilities in order to ensure humane working
conditions; adequate supply of safe drinking water, adequate sanitary and washing facilities
and other worker’s welfare facilities as may be prescribed by the OSH standards and other
issuances.

In compliance with the requirement of Department of Labor and Employment under

Article 132 it states that an employer must establish separate toilet rooms and lavatories for
men and women and provide at least a dressing room for women.

Since they enable people to properly dispose of their waste, minimize environmental
contamination, and reduce risk to themselves and their neighbors, proper sanitation facilities
(such as toilets and latrines) promote health. Many people throughout the world lack access to
sanitation facilities, which leads to poor waste disposal. This prevents trash from being
adequately contained away from people and ensures that it is properly handled before being
released into the environment or posing other concerns.
Project Location and History

Baldo Construction and Development Corporation (BCDC) is a private firm dedicated to

excel in construction industry. Its core objective is to engage in every business undertaking with
integrity, professionalism, and commitment, so as to build a long-term affiliation.

It is established in 2007, Baldo Construction and Development Corporation was former

registered as professional partnership with a business name C.A.B. Design in 2006.Baldo
Construction and Development Corporation is the Sub-contractor of San Miguel Corporation in
the construction of MRT 7 – Batasan Station.

The location of the additional portable toilet is under the train guideway of MRT7. The
whole lot was acquired by the government intended for the construction of Batasan Station.
San Miguel Corporation is the General Contractor of this project and Baldo Construction and
Development Corporation is the third-party contractor.

Project Beneficiaries

Table 1 shows the list and number of manpower and staff who will benefit from the
portable toilet which provides clean and pleasant temporary toilets. Portable washrooms
increase worker productivity in various ways. First, workers don't have to take extended breaks
to find a nearby public restroom. With an onsite portable toilet, they can take shorter breaks
and get back to work in no time. With an offsite bathroom, workers spend significant time going
and coming back. The time increases when they can't find a facility nearby and get distracted
on the way. For instance, a worker might take time to grab a snack, drink, or make phone calls.
Second, onsite portable toilets can keep workers happier and satisfied when they don't have to
bear the hassle of searching for offsite bathrooms. Happier workers are often more productive
and spend more time working and much less worrying about when they have to use the
restroom. Third, workers are more likely to perform better when they know their employers
care about them and offer the necessary amenities to ensure their comfort.
Project Objectives

The project generally aims to add portable toilet in support of the health and sanitation of
manpower and staff in the Batasan Station Project. It specifically aims to:

1. Ensure that people working or located in areas without indoor plumbing can use a
washroom without any difficulty.

2. Provide a clean work environment to reduce the spread of viruses and bacteria.

Project Description

Figure 2 shows the drawing of portable toilet. There are not many items required for portable
toilet assembly. Lightweight sheet plastic, like polyethylene, makes up the majority of the
structure and is used to construct both the cabana and the actual toilet unit. The portable
sewage system is composed of a pump and holding tank. A range of hinges, screws, nails, rivets,
and bolts are used to secure these objects. The facility also has an entrance tube and a supply
container for chemicals.

Today, the portaloos that you find at festivals or on construction sites are made up of four key
chemicals. These are dye, biocides, fragrance and surfactants. Let’s break down what each of
these elements does in providing a clean, safe environment in a portable toilet.

Project Organization Staff

Table 3 shows the functions of the people that will be involved and who will facilitate the
coordination and implementation of project activities. The head of the staff with the highest
rank is the Project Manager, who will manage the production of the required deliverables,
planning and monitoring the overall progress of the project. After that, there is a Foreman, he is
responsible for supervising and coordinating the work of skilled workers and laborer in the
entire project. They must ensure that the work is completed on time, within budget, and to the
specified quality standards. Lastly, Utility personnel, he/she is responsible for maintaining the
cleanliness and sanitation of the portable toilets.
Project Timeline

Table 4 displays the daily schedule based on how many days are needed to task before the
project is finished. The project timeline will be implemented throughout the course of the next
10 calendar days as planned.

Project Cost

Table 5 reveals the cost that will be required to procure a portable toilet. The benefit of having
a portable toilet in the construction site are workers don't have to take extended breaks to find
a nearby public restroom. With an onsite portable toilet, they can take shorter breaks and get
back to work in no time. Onsite portable toilets can keep workers happier and satisfied when
they don't have to bear the hassle of searching for offsite bathrooms. Workers are more likely
to perform better when they know their employers care about them and offer the necessary
amenities to ensure their comfort.

Project Implementation and Monitoring

Proper maintenance is the first step to keeping portable toilets odor-free and clean. This is
especially true for multi-day events or long-term jobsite rentals where frequent use is typical.
Cleaning the tank in order to use it again is a crucial part of portable toilet maintenance.
Customers must remember to leave the door open and let air flow when cleaning. This
facilitates airing out the units between cleanings and bringing in fresh air. After the portable
unit has undergone maintenance, cleaners should make sure they have the necessary
consumables on hand. This includes soap, air freshener, hand sanitizer, paper towels, and toilet
paper. If the unit has a trash can, it needs to be empty on a regular basis. Baldo Construction
and Development Corporation's project manager will lead the implementation of this project
with the assistance of utility personnel to ensure the cleanliness and sanitization of temporary
restrooms that use plastic drums as septic tanks. In order to keep the portable toilet clean, the
utilities staff will monitor and inspect the restroom daily.

That concludes my presentation. We are now open for questions and clarifications.
