Bismillah, Alhamdulillah, Salawaat

Verily, all praise belongs to Allah alone. We praise Him, we seek His assistance, and we ask
for His forgiveness. And we seek refuge in Him from the evils of our selves. Whoever Allah
guides, none can misguide. Whoever He misguides, none can guide. And I bear witness that
there is no deity other than Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and
messenger. To Proceed: I first begin by posing the question – What if everything we owned,
and all of our body parts could speak, could testify? How paranoid, how worried would we
be about our own hearts saying things that are against us, contradicting us? Our own homes,
devices, body parts testifying against us. The Heart being the core, sometimes we are not
even certain what our hearts contain – We may be able to see what our hands and feet do,
but in reality, it is what is in our hearts when we act that counts most – The sincerity behind
it, the intention we perform a deed with. As Rasulullah ‫ ﷺ‬once said: Verily, in the body is a
piece of Flesh, which, if it is sound, the entire body is sound, and if it is corrupt, the entire
body is corrupt. Truly, it is the Heart. So we have to be on guard and alert as to what our
heart desires, and what is kept within it. Furthermore, Rasulullah ‫ ﷺ‬also told us Verily,
Allah does not look at your appearances or wealth, but rather he looks at your Hearts and
Actions. So the Heart plays a pivotal role in the trueness to our actions. Allah says in the
Quran:

On That Day, The Day of Judgment, Nothing will benefit

Human Beings, Except the One who brings/comes forth
with a Sound Heart.

In other words, that which may have benefited one in the Dunya may have been ones
wealth or children, but in reality, the criterion of benefit for both Dunya and Akhira, is a
Sound Heart. And it is here in this Dunya that we obtain the Sound Heart, so that when we
are on the Day of Judgment, we have obtained the crtierion of benefit – which is a Sound
Heart. If we do not obtain it here, we will not have it there, and if we do not have a sound
heart on the day of Judgment we are doomed. If we are backbiting, we do not have a sound
heart, if we are not fulfilling our obligations towards Allah we do not have a sound heart.
Everything that distances us from Allah are indications that the heart has work to be done.
Focusing back onto the Day of Judgment, all of that which was silent and unable to speak in
this world, will be brought by Allah to either speak for us, or against us. The Prophet ‫ﷺ‬
mentioned that Allah would call forward a servant on the Day of Judgment, reminding him
of his favours upon him, such as “Did I not give you Hearing, Sight, Wealth, Children – Did I
not make the Cattle and Tillage subservient to you, did I not leave you as the head of people,
taking from their wealth?” Then Allah will ask this servant – “Did you not think that you
would have to meet with me on this Day of yours?” The Servant will reply “My Lord, I
Believed in you, your books, and in your messengers. I Prayed, I fasted, and I gave Charity.”
And this servant will keep mentioning of all his good deeds until Allah will say to him, “Stop
for Now.” “Now we are going to produce our witnesses against you.” The Servant will
respond, “Who is it that will bear witness against me?” This particular person is confident no
one saw him do that of the good which he claims to have done, In one narration, this
servant even Challenges Allah by saying “I only accept a witness from myself, I do not trust
any outside witness concerning myself.” Allah then says to this person “The Angels are
sufficient, and you are sufficient. You yourself are sufficient of a witness against yourself.” So
then his mouth will become sealed, and it is said to his body, firstly the thighs – “Speak!”
then to his Flesh “Speak!” then to his Bones “Speak!” Allah tells us in the Quran, as a
warning for us in this life and a preparation for us in the next life:

Today, We Shall Seal their Mouths – their Hands will speak to us, and their feet will testify to
what they used to commit.

And as every portion of their body comes to life, speaking and testifying against this servant,
he will say to his limbs – “Why are you testifying against me! I was trying to protect you, if
We go to hell, you are going to be the ones that suffer [Him speaking to his own limbs]. The
Limbs will respond to him saying: “It is Allah who caused us to speak. Just as he causes
whatever he wants to speak.” In another Narration, The Servant will curse his limbs saying
“May you be cursed and suffer for it! It was for your sake that I Indulged in all these things!”
The Ulama say about this situation: “That is to say, it is through the limbs that one derives
sensual pleasures from sins, but, on that Day, on the Day of Judgment, These very limbs will
become witnesses against themselves. The Fact is that the parts of the body will also be
helpless, as all things on that day will be rendered incapable of telling lies.” That is, nothing
will be able to speak untruthfully, nothing will be able to lie on the Day of Judgment.
Everything that happens and spoken is Truth, that be bitter or sweet – and it is all dependent
on our actions and deeds performed in this life. Rasulullah ‫ ﷺ‬said once: Recite the Kalimah
Subhanallah, and Alhamdulillah, and count them on your fingers, for on the Day of
Judgment, the parts of the body will be granted the power to speak, and they will have to
face questioning. The Ulama say about this: “That, when these limbs are given the power of
speech and they reveal all the sins, they will also recount the many good deeds performed by
them. While the hands bear testimony about misdeeds and acts of violence and
disobedience, they will also stand witness to the reciting and counting of sacred Names of
Allah Ta'ala and the giving of Sadaqat and participating in other good deeds.”

SIT DOWN
Bismillah, Alhamdulillah, Salawaat
Now, For the repentant believer, unintentional and inevitable sins are forgiven so long as one
was preparing for the day of Judgment. And just as things that are silent are brought to the
capabilities to speak in the next world, such also includes the places of goodness will also
come to our defence. That is, if we were sincere, and trying to be on the side of
righteousness with Allah, then Allah will forgive those things our limbs may have
unintentionally witnessed – so long as they were not intentional, and done during periods of
hypocrisy, with the intentions of deceiving others and acting against the commandments of
Allah. For the wicked people, Allah says about them:

Neither the Heavens, nor the Earth Shed Tears for them
Ibn Abbas ‫ رضي هللا عنه‬said: “The Place of your Sajdah, your Prostration cries when you
depart from the earth.” And now, that place where we prostrated will come and testify for us
on our behalf. Then we have the Animals, There are stories in the Seerah of a bird and a
camel that were complaining to the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬in a way that only he could hear – On the
Day of Judgment, understanding them is no longer restricted, The Animals come forth as
witnesses either for us or against us. The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬even said: “Whoever kills a small bird
for play, it will come on the Day of Judgment saying: “Oh My Lord, So and So killed me for
mere sport/play and not for any Benefit!” So even the interaction we have with Animals will
come in a form where we are able to understand them, and they have the ability to speak
against us or for us. On another aspect, the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬spoke about the seeker of
knowledge – Everything in the Heavens and the Earth seeks forgiveness for that person,
even the fish in the depths of the ocean and the birds high in the sky. They will all come and
testify on the behalf of this person. So we have to be mindful that just because something
does not have the ability to speak in this world, it does not mean that it cannot testify
against us in the next world. And if the weight of the testimony of things unable to be
spoken to, nor heard in this world can have dramatic effects on our position on the Day of
Judgment, I pose something to think about – “Imagine the weight of the testimony of people
we encounter in our lives when they are brought forth to bear witness either for us, or
against us.”
