This book views success as something that is developed from the inside out. Most self-help books
focus on principles, which Covey says only determine what happens if you behave in a certain
way (like a law of nature). The problem is that knowing the consequences doesn’t get you to
change your behavior, because your behavior is determined by your values. That’s why this book
focuses on aligning your own, unique values with some of the universally valid principles, which
means it has the potential to actually change your behavior.
