BEFORE PBN AIRSPACE ENTRY

➢ Check to ensure Navigation equipment (including

equipment required on chart) and communication
requirements are operative.
IN PBN AIRSPACE

➢ Monitoring to Identify navigation error.

➢ Advice ATC of any deterioration or failure of
Navigation equipment:
• In RNP-1 airspace: The creation of new waypoints by
manual entry into the RNP 1 system by the pilot
would invalidate the route and is not permitted.
• In RNAV/RNP airspace, flight crew should attempt to
crosscheck the aircraft position, where possible with
VOR, DME and NDB information, to confirm an
acceptable level of navigation performance in the event
of loss of GPS navigation capability. Otherwise, the
flight crew should revert to an alternate means
navigation.
• In RNAV/RNP-10 airspace, the RNP-10 capability is
maintained as long as flight time in IRS ONLY has not
exceeded 5.7 hours (5.2 hours with INS) or an
acceptable duration by the authority.
• For deviations of greater than 10NM in RNP-10
airspace, when revised ATC clearance cannot be
obtained, initiate a level change based on the following
criteria:

Route center line Deviation >10NM Level change

track
LEFT DES 300FT
EAST 000-179
magnetic RIGHT CLB 300FT
LEFT CLB 300FT
WEST 180-359
magnetic RIGHT DES 300FT

• In the event of loss of PBN capability, pilots should

invoke contingency procedure

FOE-A320F-CL-PBN

Issue 02
SOC A320F PBN CHECKLIST
Revision 00
14 Jan 2022

• In RNP APCH airspace:

- Radar guidance leading to interception of the final axis
less than 2NM before the FAF should NOT be
accepted.
- Verify and announce that the approach RNP is equal
to or greater than 0.3 NM (F/D or A/P).
- At or before FAF: Maximum differences between both
altimeters is 100ft.
- If reversion occurs after the FAF/FAP, go-around is
required, unless the pilot has in sight the visual
references required to continue the approach.

CONTIGENCY PROCEDURE

➢ REFER TO FCOM PRO-SPO-51

➢ Where the contingency to revert to a conventional arrival
procedure is required, flight crew should make the
necessary preparation. The following conditions should
be considered:
• Failure of the navigation system components
including those affecting flight technical error (e.g.
failures of the flight director or autopilot).
• Multiple system failures.
• Failure of the navigation sensors.
• Coasting on inertial sensors beyond a specified time
limit.
• RAIM (or equivalent) alert or loss of integrity
function.
➢ In the event of loss of PBN capability, flight crew should
invoke contingency procedures and navigate using an
alternative means of navigation, which may include the use
of an inertial system. The alternative means don’t need to be
a PBN system.

➢ RNP APCH:
✓ Flight crew should ensure there are sufficient means available
to navigate and land at the destination or at an alternate
aerodrome in case of loss of RNP APCH capability. In the
event of failure of one PBN system during a procedure where
two systems are required, flight crew should abort the
procedure if the failure occurs before FAF but may continue
the approach if the failure occurs after FAF.
✓ The flight crew should notify ATC of any problem with PBN
navigation capability.
FOE-A320F-CL-PBN
8

Issue 02
SOC A320F PBN CHECKLIST
Revision 00
14 Jan 2022

✓ In the event of communications failure, the flight crew should

continue with procedures in accordance with published lost
communication procedures.

✓ Management Of Degraded Navigation when approach

using FINAL APP Guidance or FPA Guidance (with LNAV
minima only)

• For RNAV(GNSS) approaches with LNAV minima:

‐ Use the appropriate remaining AP/FD in the following
cases:
o GPS PRIMARY LOST on one ND
o NAV ACCUR DOWNGRAD on one FMGS.
‐ Discontinue the approach in the following cases, if
external visual references are not sufficient to proceed
visually:
o GPS PRIMARY LOST on both NDs
o XTK > 0.3 NM
o NAV FM/GPS POS DISAGREE on ECAM
o NAV ACCUR DOWNGRAD on both FMGS.
- Be prepared to continue the approach by reverting to NAV
FPA, if the vertical guidance is not satisfactory.

• For RNAV(GNSS) approaches with LNAV/VNAV

minima:
‐ Use the appropriate remaining AP/FD in the following
cases:
o GPS PRIMARY LOST on one ND
o NAV ACCUR DOWNGRAD on one FMGS.
‐ Discontinue the approach in the following cases, if
external visual references are not sufficient to proceed
visually:
o GPS PRIMARY LOST on both NDs
o XTK > 0.3 NM
o NAV FM/GPS POS DISAGREE on ECAM
o NAV ACCUR DOWNGRAD on both FMGS.
‐ Discontinue the approach in the case of deviation of 75
ft below the vertical path (V/DEV>¾dot).

RVSM ABNORMAL & EMERGENCY PROCEDURE

ATC…………………………………………….…………………………NOTIFY

When the aircraft is in RVSM airspace, the flight crew must notify the ATC
of the following situations, because they may affect the aircraft's ability to
maintain the flight level:
- The failure of both autopilots
- The loss of altimeter system redundancy (only one PFD
indication remaining)
- An excessive discrepancy in altitude indications, and no ways to
identify the valid indication
- The failure of any other equipment that affects the aircraft's ability
to maintain flight level
- The encounter of greater than moderate turbulence.
If the flight crew cannot notify the ATC or obtain the ATC clearance before
deviating from the assigned flight level, they should follow the established
contingency procedure and obtain the ATC clearance as soon as possible.

CONTIGENCY ACTIONS

Contingency Actions: Weather Encounters and Aircraft System Failures that

Occur After Entry into RVSM Airspace

Initial Pilot Actions in Contingency Situations

When unable to maintain flight level (FL) or unsure of aircraft altitude keeping
capability:
• Notify ATC and request assistance as detailed below.
• Maintain cleared flight level, to the extent possible, while evaluating
the situation.
• Watch for conflicting traffic both visually and by reference to TCAS, if
equipped.
• Alert nearby aircraft by illuminating exterior lights (commensurate with
aircraft limitations).

Severe Turbulence and/or Mountain Wave Activity (MWA) Induced

Altitude Deviations of Approximately 200 feet

FOE-A320F-CL-RVSM
5

Issue 02
SOC A320F RVSM CHECKLIST
Revision 00
14 Jan 2022
• When experiencing severe turbulence and/or MWA induced altitude
deviations of approximately 200 feet or greater, pilot will contact ATC
and state “Unable RVSM Due (state reason)” (e.g., turbulence,
mountain wave).
• If not issued by the controller, request vector clear of traffic at adjacent
FLs
• If desired, request FL change or re-route
• Report location and magnitude of turbulence or MWA to ATC
Mountain Wave Activity (MWA) Encounters - General
• Contact ATC and report experiencing MWA
• If so desired, pilot may request a FL change or re-route
• Report location and magnitude of MWA to ATC

Note: MWA encounters do not necessarily result in altitude deviations on the

order of 200 feet. The guidance is intended to address less significant MWA
encounters.
Wake Turbulence Encounters
• Contact ATC and request vector, FL change or, if capable, a lateral
offset
“Unable RVSM Due Equipment” Failure of Automatic Altitude
Control System, Altitude Alerter or All Primary Altimeters
• Contact ATC and state “Unable RVSM Due Equipment”
• Request clearance out of RVSM airspace unless operational
situation dictates otherwise.
One Primary Altimeter Remains Operational

• Cross check stand-by altimeter

• Notify ATC of operation with single primary altimeter
• If unable to confirm primary altimeter accuracy, follow actions for failure
of all primary altimeters.
Transponder Failure
• Contact ATC and request authority to continue to operate at cleared
flight level.
• Comply with revised ATC clearance, if issued.

1. INTRODUCTION

a) The BAV escape route ensures that the flight path is cleared vertically by at least
2000 FT all terrains and obstructions along the route within 5NM on either side
of intended track.
b) With procedure defined in this Depressurization Checklist, Pilots shall use the
graphical as well as the written guidance to fully understand each procedure.
Otherwise, Pilots will follow the standard emergency descent profile as defined
in section (c) below.
c) A standard emergency descent profile which demonstrates the limitation of
passengers’ oxygen supplement system capability will be used as a reference
for all other possible descent profiles in a particular area.
i. The airplane shall maintain the standard emergency descent profile in
case of a rapid depressurization. In addition, flight crews should descend
to lower altitude that ensures the aircraft is cleared all terrains at least
2000ft (based on Grid-MORA).
ii. The standard emergency descent profile is for 15-mins-chemical oxygen
system.

iii. The standard emergency descent profile is for 22-mins-chemical oxygen

PREVENT UPSET
➢ Monitoring the aircraft situation based on:
• The environment (Turbulences, icing conditions, weather)
• The aircraft energy state
• The aircraft flight path
• The aircraft technical state (Flight controls laws, systems failure)
➢ Coordination and communication
• Know and understand the expected aircraft state for the situation.
• Communicate expectations.
• Keep track of current aircraft state.
• Detect and communicate deviations from the intended situation.
• Assess risk and decide on a response.
• Update and communicate understanding.

Airplane Upset. An airplane in flight unintentionally exceeding the parameters normally:

• Pitch attitude greater than 25 degrees nose up;
• Pitch attitude greater than 10 degrees nose down;
• Bank angle greater than 45 degrees; or
• Within the above parameters, but flying at airspeeds inappropriate for the
conditions.

THRUST3 …………..……..…ADJUST

When Airspeed is sufficiently

increasing:
RECOVER TO THE LEVEL FLIGHT4

Notes:

1 A large out-of-trim condition could be encountered when the A/P is disconnected.

2 Excessive use of pitch trim may make the upset situation worse or may result in high
structural loads.

3 Select up to maximum thrust available while ensuring adequate pitch control. Increasing
thrust may reduce the effectiveness of nose-down pitch control. It may be necessary to limit
or reduce thrust to the point where control of the pitch is achieved.

4 This may require use of pitch trim to manage control forces during large airspeed changes.

Avoid entering a stall due to premature recovery at low speed or excessive g-loading at
high speed.

increasing:
RECOVER TO THE LEVEL FLIGHT4
Notes:

1 A large out-of-trim condition could be encountered when the A/P is disconnected.

2 It is important to reduce g-loading while attempting to roll to wings level because it

increases the roll effectiveness while decreasing the asymmetric loads on the airplane.

3The flight crew should reduce the thrust and/or use the speed-brakes to control the
speed.

4This may require use of pitch trim to manage control forces during large airspeed
changes.

Avoid entering a stall due to premature recovery at low speed or excessive g-loading at
high speed.
