Challenges I Faced at Addis Ababa University

It’s a concrete fact that human activities and challenges are closely related to one another.
This is to mean that whenever human beings get involved in certain course of actions, there is
high probability of encountering some difficulties. No one can do away with it because it’s a
natural and integral part of human life. Same is the case with me, I have experienced a
number of challenges since I came to Addis Ababa University. Among these problems, three
of them are discussed as follows.
The fist challenge I encountered here was the challenge of getting adjusted myself with the
timetable of the university. As a matter fact, the schedule of Addis Ababa University is too
difficult to get along with easily for many reasons. The first one is that it’s very challenging
as it requires a tremendous amount of energy and dedication to go with. For example, the
Addis Ababa University schedule of exams is too short to make enough preparation for the
exam. Moreover, the overall teaching style of the university was very tiresome, for it
deprived me enjoying reasonable vacation. For instance, as many lecturers of the university
were working part-time and having a job in other institutions, they usually were trying to
arrange the class in line with their interests .This in turn resulted in poor teaching
performance. As a result, it was very challenging for me to adapt myself to the university’s
timetable.

My second challenge was related to the cafe food. Truly stating, the university’s cafe food is
too disgusting to have it all the time for its poor quality and repetitive menus. Because of this,
whenever I came to cafe to have my food, weather it was lunch, dinner or breakfast, I was
always used to go out, leaving it on the table. Particularly, at the time of dinner I did not ever
go to the cafe. As a result I usually was used to eat out and hence exposed to unnecessary and
excessive expenses, thought I was not non cafe.

The last one was concerned to the dormitory life. A part from those aforementioned
challenges, dormitory life was very challenging for me. For one thing, I got quite acute
difficulties in getting adapted my self with the life of no family love and affection after I had
separated from my parents in 2021/22, joining Addis Ababa University. For another thing, I
was not able to be familiar with the unpleasant manners of some students who were living
with me in the same room. For example, I was extremely furious with their habits of listening
to music loudly.

Generally putting, my life at Addis Ababa University was not a piece of cake in that it was
full of challenges and obstacles. Although I experienced a number of challenges here after I
joined the university in 2021, the ones that I mentioned above were the prominent ones. As a
matter of suggestion, I would like to recommend the university rectifying all the challenges,
particularly the ones related to cafe and timetable of the university.
