ACKNOWLEDGMENT
I am using this great opportunity to express my deepest gratitude and
thanks to several people who unselfishly extended their hands, utmost
efforts, and time to make my internship journey successful and possible.
To my primary support system, my tatay Marcelino, my sisters
Ate Michelle, Ate Melyn, and Mariel, my grandparents, uncles and
aunties, cousins, friends, and also my boyfriend Kyle, for pouring me
endless love, financial support, and moral support. Thank you for
listening to my countless dramas, making me happy, and constantly
checking on me. You are all why I could not dare to give up even on the
most challenging life battles I encountered because you are all the pillars
of my strength. I am forever blessed and grateful to have you all in my
life and my Nanay Noemi in heaven, who is always guiding me.
To our beloved Dean in the Institute of Teacher Education, Dr. Arnold
M. Duping, and to our supportive Supervisor Teacher and Mathematics
Chairperson, Mr. Ellvan M. Campus, and all the DNSC-ITED faculty
members, thank you so much for always guiding and helping us in our
journey as pre-service teachers.
To Mr. Roger A. Roger, Principal IV of Tagum National Trade School,
and Mrs. Luzviminda C. Catigara, head teacher, for rendering their
constant supervision and precious time in helping us feel the community
within the academy.
To Mrs. Karen Grace A. Cubar, my cooperating teacher, for guiding
me, molding me, and sharing her expertise from day one until my last
duty.
I'd also like to acknowledge my Tagum National Trade School students in
Grade 9 (Sapphire, Opal, Pearl, Emerald, Ruby, and Onyx) for always

teachings and also for treating me with respect and special care,
especially in my last duty.
Above all, I would like to give honor and praise to our ALMIGHTY
FATHER for his bestowed blessings, giving of life, wisdom, and
courage to make my internship a reality. Without His guidance and grace,
I would not have come this far and accomplished my daily ventures.
Indeed, it is not me alone, but the Lord. To God be all praise and glory!

iv
Prayer of a
teacher
As a teacher, I have a lot to do and a lot of
responsibility. Please help me, Lord God, as I face this
enormous challenge. Lord God, grant me the patience to
deal with various students and be an effective teacher.

Lord God, please give me a deep understanding and

genuine compassion for my students so I can properly
instruct them and comprehend their circumstances. Being
a teacher requires a lot of sacrifices from me, including
my time, my strength, my mind, my health, and my
heart.

Lord God, help me to assist my students in reaching

their full potential and growing holistically. Lord God,
help me impart moral instruction to my students in
addition to what they learn in their textbooks so that they
will grow to be not only intelligent individuals but also
men and women of honor and integrity, not just
intellectual folks.
Lord God, grant me a heart for my work and good
health so I can do it with gratitude and my best effort.
Amen.

MY SELF
AS A
NOVICE
TEACHER
MY AUTOBIOGRAPHY
My name is Monique Paloma Agustin, and at the age of 22, I find myself
reflecting on the path that led me to this moment. Born on August 6, 2000, in Purok 4
Mahayahay, Cabayangan, Braulio E. Dujali, Davao del Norte, my life has been
shaped by various experiences, dreams, and the unwavering support of my family.
Join me as I recount my journey, from childhood aspirations to pursuing my passion
for education.
In my family's heart stands my father, Mr. Marcelino Lampria Agustin, a
dedicated driver working for a private company. Sadly, my beloved mother, Mrs.
Noemi Paloma Agustin, passed away in January 2014, leaving an irreplaceable void in
our lives. I am the third among four siblings. My oldest sister, Mrs. Michelle Paloma
Agustin-Serapion, graduated from STI College with a Bachelor of Science in
Information Technology. She works as a clerk in a private company and is happily
married with two children. Melyn Paloma Agustin-San Miguel, my older sister,
graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education, majoring in English from
USEP-Tagum. She has become a dedicated public-school teacher and is also married
with two children. Lastly, my youngest sister, Mariel Paloma Agustin, is a Grade 9
student at Magdum National High School.
My academic journey began at Cabayangan Elementary School, where I
completed my primary education from 2006 to 2012 and graduated as the first
honorable mention in my class. Continuing, I pursued my junior high school
education at Antonio V. Fruto Sr. National High School, where I was recognized for
my achievements as part of the honors class. I enrolled in the University of Mindanao
Tagum College for my senior high school education, specializing in the Accountancy,
Business, and Management (ABM) strand. With hard work and determination, I
graduated with honors, marking a significant milestone in my educational path. I am a
fourth-year college student at Davao del Norte State College, studying to become a
secondary education teacher with a major in Mathematics.
From a young age, my desire to become a teacher burned brightly. Sharing my
knowledge and teaching others brought me immense joy and satisfaction. However,
there were moments when the allure of engineering or accounting tempted me due to
my affinity for numbers. Hence, I chose the ABM strand during my senior high school
years, contemplating a future in accountancy. Unfortunately, life presented its
challenges after graduation, and I realized that my initial dream profession was my
true calling. Determined to pursue my passion, I took the entrance exam at Davao del
Norte State College, and through God's grace and a successful interview, I secured my
place. Now, in the final semester of college, I stand on the precipice of graduation,
eagerly awaiting the moment I fulfill my mother's wish.
As I stand at the cusp of graduation, I envision myself as a future educator,
ready to positively impact countless students' lives. This journey has been both
challenging and rewarding, and I feel overwhelmed with emotion as I approach the
culmination of my academic endeavors. With every passing day, my gratitude grows

2
for the unwavering support of my family, the opportunities that have come my way,
and the determination that has carried me.

MY EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
In my perspective, educational philosophy, I align myself with the tenets of
progressivism, as advocated by John Dewey. Education is not merely a means of
preparation but an integral part of life. It is a progressive and social activity that
embraces change and growth. While recognizing that there are diverse
perspectives on the functioning and focus of education, I aim to emphasize the
value of progress and individual empowerment in shaping students' futures.
As a pre-service teacher, I empower students to explore their potential and
challenge themselves intellectually. In recognizing that each student brings unique
goals and aspirations to the classroom, my role as an educator is to guide them
toward the right path while respecting their individuality. This necessitates a
student-centered approach that encourages self-discovery and hands-on learning
experiences.
Progressivism encompasses many educational concepts that resonate with my
teaching philosophy. By embracing progressivism, I aim to provide students with
opportunities to learn through interactive activities, enabling them to actively
engage with the subject. This approach allows for a balance between academic
growth and personal development.
At the core of progressivism lies the principle of giving students a voice in their
learning journey. This empowers them to make choices and decisions about what
they learn, fostering a sense of ownership and intrinsic motivation. As an educator,
I serve as a guide, facilitating their exploration and offering support. In this
approach, the focus shifts from the outcome to the learning process itself, placing
importance on critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Progressivism encourages students to think independently and develop their ideas.
By prioritizing the process of learning over rote memorization, I aim to equip
students with the necessary skills to navigate an ever-changing world. Cultivating
a growth mindset and nurturing curiosity and inquiry will enable students to adapt,
innovate, and contribute positively to society.
In conclusion, my educational philosophy embraces progressivism as a foundation
for effective teaching and learning. By placing students at the center of the
educational process, I aim to foster a classroom environment that values
individuality, self-discovery, and critical thinking. Through hands-on activities and
student autonomy, I strive to empower students to become independent thinkers
and lifelong learners. Education is an emotional and transformative journey where
progress and change are vital to unlocking the full potential of each student.

3
MY TEACHING CAREER DEVELOPMENT PLAN

Professionally, teachers require extensive training to

perform all the expected activities when they begin work. Being
an effective teacher entails a wide range of responsibilities, from
creating a learning environment to planning appropriate lessons
for students and implementing them using effective educational
strategies to managing the class well and instilling discipline in
the students to involving parents and coordinating with others to
provide quality education.
I have always wanted to be a teacher since I was a kid. I
like teachers who inspire and educate their students. I also love
teaching my classmates the lessons they need to learn. When my
nanay died when I was 13 years old, my big sister told me that
nanay wanted to have a daughter who was a teacher because she
was also an education student, but because of financial
problems, she stopped schooling. Even though my big sister is a
teacher today, I want to become one too because I know my
Nanay will be happy.
During my teaching internship, I realized that being a
teacher is a hard job and a noble profession. I told myself that I
would finish college even if I had health problems because I
knew this was my calling and mission. I know it is not easy, but
seeing the smiles of my students and how they learn from me, I
am thrilled and relieved of my pain for the whole day of class.
I plan to take my licensure exam as a teacher this year, and
I am praying I will pass and find a job for experience. When I
have saved, I will enroll for a master's, and if I am ready, I will
apply to DepEd. By God's will and grace, I will become a public

teacher, the same as my cooperating teacher, my big sister, and

b. History

Tagum National Trade School owes its emergence from Congress- man
Lorenzo P. Sarmiento in 1972. He had envisioned the need to open a
vocational school in this part of the province as an answer to the cry of the
low-income group who cannot avail then the high cost of tertiary
education. The active congressman worked out for the establishment of the
school as reflected in his bill REPUBLIC ACT 5986.

The opening of a trade school in the Municipality of Tagum then was

indeed a timely move for the populace not only because of its relatively
nominal school fees which suited the low-income group but also of its
relevance to the youth whose inclination was towards trade education.
Tagum National Trade School started its humble beginning on August 1,
1972, using the Tagum Community Gym as temporary classroom.
Seventy-eight (78) first year high school students coming from the excess
enrollees of Tagum Municipal High School served as core group which
was handled by two teachers.

Moreover, the opening of the Post Secondary Vocational courses billed

as the Two-Year Trade Technical Education curriculum started in the year
1976, as approved by DECS Order No. 28 as mandated by Batas
Pambansa of 1975.

Then Year 1989 saw a redirection of the educational orientation from

the predominantly intellectual scenario to a valued vocational education
program. Hence, the emergence of the tech-voc program under the Bureau
of Technical-Vocational Education (BTVE) where the school was named
as priority 1 in the listing of tech-voc schools based on DECS Order 56, 59
and 63 as the legal basis. With this, the college offerings increased. The
Automotive Technology course became the flagship followed by Electrical
Technology, Electronics Technology, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning
Technology, Civil Technology, etc. the high school level was then changed
to be called New Secondary Education Curriculum.
Again, the school experienced another transition of power in 1995. The
implementation of Republic Act No. 7796 creating the Technical
Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) made Tagum
National Trade School one of its priority Technical-Vocational Training
Institutions (TVI's) in Region XI. Instructors were sent to the Nation- al
Training Center for massive trainings. Consequently, more technology
courses were opened and more enrollees in college flowed in.

In 2007, the Department of Education implemented the "Strengthened

Technical-Vocational Education Program”, and Tagum National Trade
School is one of the identified 282 tech-voc secondary public high schools
across the country to implement the Competency-Based Curriculum. It
offers different areas of specialization in Arts and Trade, to wit:

8
1. Automotive Mechanics
2. Industrial Electricity
3. Building Construction/FCM
4. Civil Technology
5. Drafting Technology
6. Refrigeration Air-Conditioning Technology
7. Foods Trade
8. Garments Trade
9. Electronics Technology
10. IT-Program
a. Visual Graphic Design Animation
b. Computer Networking Technology
c. Computer Hardware Servicing
11. Mandatory Subjects
a. Technical Drawing
b. Information Computing Technology

All through the years, the school has gained respect, pride and honor
from the constituents of Davao Region. It has developed Tradean crafters,
technicians, skilled workers, technocrats, innovators, inventors,
technologists, service men and entrepreneurs, crystallizing students’ ideals,
dreams and technologist aspirations. The school can also boast of the fact
that it is the first institution to offer computer literacy to its students in the
secondary level by incorporating computer subjects in their class program
since 1996 up to the present. Also, Tagum National Trade School has been
an accredited Assessment Center of the following programs:
 Computer Hardware Servicing NC II
 Automotive Servicing NC I & NC II
 Food and Beverage Services NC II
 Masonry NC II
 Carpentry NC II
 Plumbing NC II
 Food Processing NC II
 Consumer Electronics Servicing NC II
 Dressmaking NC II
 Technical Drafting NC II
 Electrical Installation & Maintenance NC II

In the year 2012, Tagum National Trade School has been considered as
the Center of Excellence in Information Communication Technology (ICT)
for Region XI, a distinction that is primarily due to the initiative and
support from the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA). From then on, the
school gained recognition in the national level.

On the same year, Tagum National Trade School was chosen as one of
the Technical Vocational Schools to implement the Senior High School
Modeling Program of the K to 12 Basic Education Program of DepEd

9
which then has an enrolment of forty (40) students with Foods Trade,
Drafting, Automotive and Electronics for its trade areas of specialization.

Currently, Tagum National Trade School on its flagship of producing

students who are globally competent in terms of technical vocational skills
has become a prime institution in advocating the K to 12 Basic Education
Curriculum as model school of the Senior High School Program.

3. How did I feel when I saw my practicum site? What are my apprehensions?

11
Complete the facial expression and explain why you feel this way.

When I saw my practicum site, I felt happy because I was assigned again
to the same cooperating school during my field studies, but I felt nervous because
I did not know if I would be given the same grade level and cooperating teacher.
I prayed that I would be assigned to the same grade level as my previous
cooperating teacher because I already had a rapport with my students and my
cooperating teacher. At the same time, I also felt pressured she would be my
cooperating teacher because she is so intelligent and has graduated a cum laude
from one of the best universities in Tagum City. Despite these, I will be grateful if
she is my cooperating teacher again because I can learn many things from her,
and she treats me well. At last, I am thankful because I am assigned again to my
previous cooperating teacher with the same grade level.

MY PRACTICE TEACHING KIT

After our orientation session, with the administrator(s), cooperating principal,

college supervisor, cooperating teachers, together with my co-preservice teachers, I
need to equip myself with the PT Kit (Practice Teaching Kit) to better prepare myself
in this wonderful world of teaching. What tools I need to bring in my teaching
internship in terms of Knowledge, Attitude, Skills, and Habits (KASH)?

I need to be prepared for my mental health

when making all the lesson plans and teaching
KNOWLEDG the students. I need to be knowledgeable
about the contents and topics of Mathematics
E 9 in both Quarters 3 and 4. I need to study my
lesson every day to ensure that I will teach the
students correct content and avoid conveying
wrong ideas.

I need to be a good teacher for all the students

and understand their differences and
ATTITUDE diversity. I should be patient enough with
their attitudes but also teach them what good
attitudes and behaviors to somebody inside
the room and on campus. Moreover, I will
discipline them as part of my practice
teaching.

12
I must be active and prepared at all times. I
need to be productive and use all of my
SKILLS teaching approaches to keep my students
engaged and participative during my lesson.
Every day, I make sure that all of my skills
can assist me teach the students, and that they
may learn about my teaching methods and
how to use varieties of learning styles.

I need to be conscious of the words and

actions I use in front of my students. During
HABITS my class, I will use my enjoyable and fun side
to energize and motivate the students to listen
to and understand my discussion.

My Narrative of Experience
My Analysis

13
In this section, I am going to narrate my experience on the following:
a. Pre-Deployment Series of Orientations

T The pre-deployment orientation series that I had the opportunity to attend

at Davao del Norte State College provided me with a comprehensive range of
knowledge and skills that have effectively prepared me for my upcoming
internship. These seminars covered many essential topics that will benefit me as I
embark on my teaching journey.
During the initial seminar, a strong emphasis was placed on media and
information literacy. We were enlightened about the crucial importance of fact-
checking and the need to exercise caution when sharing information on various
social media platforms. Understanding the potential consequences of spreading
misinformation, we were equipped with the necessary skills to critically evaluate
and verify the accuracy of information before sharing it with others.
The second seminar delved into classroom-based action research, offering
valuable insights into its numerous advantages and how it can significantly
enhance classroom management and instruction. This seminar provided a
practical framework to systematically address teaching challenges and actively
engage in reflective practice, fostering a culture of ongoing professional growth.
In the final seminar, the focus shifted toward accessing resources, curating
learning materials, and implementing effective teaching strategies. We were
equipped with the skills to evaluate the quality and relevance of various
resources. This allowed us to select and adapt materials tailored to the specific
topics we would be teaching. The seminar also introduced us to helpful websites
and online platforms that will serve as valuable resources throughout our
teaching journey.
These seminars have armed us with various tools, knowledge, and insights
that will prove invaluable as we embark on our teaching internship. By
promoting media literacy, action research, and resource utilization, these
seminars have equipped us with the necessary skills to navigate the challenges of
the classroom effectively. We now possess a strong foundation that will enable us
to deliver engaging and impactful lessons while continually refining our teaching
practices.

14
b. Orientation Sessions with the Cooperating School

On the 23rd day of February, which happened to be a Thursday, our group of

interns from DNSC (Davao del Norte State College) embarked on our Teaching
internship at Tagum National Trade School once again. Guiding us through this
journey was our esteemed college supervisor, Sir Ellvan. Our intern group
consisted of twenty-one individuals, each representing a different major. Among
us were four English majors, five Math majors, three Science majors, and nine
TLE (Technology and Livelihood Education) majors.

We collectively prepared the program for the day to ensure a smooth

deployment. The venue was meticulously arranged as we organized chairs, set up
the necessary equipment, such as laptops and projectors for presentations, and
allowed Mr. Puzon to rehearse his lines as he would serve as the orientation
emcee. We strategically positioned ourselves according to our majors, which
would facilitate accessible introductions during the upcoming orientation session
led by our leader, Ms. Anabo.

During the orientation at the cooperating school, Sir Ellvan addressed us and
shared important messages and the school's expectations for our internship
period. Following his address, Ma'am Catigara delivered her messages and
outlined her expectations. She introduced the teachers from different majors and
proceeded to assign them to us individually, considering our orientations.

The day was filled with preparations, introductions, and valuable information.
We eagerly awaited the next steps in our internship journey, ready to embrace
the opportunities and challenges ahead.

15
My Reflections

My “What Ifs” at School Site

Before our deployment, my mind was filled with numerous concerns and
"what-ifs." Among these worries was the possibility of being assigned to a
different cooperating school with a strict cooperating teacher. The uncertainty
surrounding this situation weighed heavily on me. However, all my
apprehensions were alleviated when Sir Ellvan assured us we would return to the
same cooperating school where we had completed our field studies. This news
sparked immense happiness within me as I eagerly anticipated the reunion with
my beloved students and the familiar presence of my cooperating teacher.
During the orientation, a fresh wave of uncertainties crashed upon me as
I contemplated the potential scenarios of being assigned to different cooperating
teachers and grade levels. The mere thought of adjusting to new students and
forging a rapport with a new cooperating teacher filled me with nervousness.
However, fortune smiled upon me when Ma'am Luz instructed Ma'am Sasuman,
the esteemed master teacher from the mathematics department, to assign math
teachers to us math interns. To my great delight and gratitude, I discovered that I
was once again entrusted to the guidance of my previous cooperating teacher,
Madam Karen. The overwhelming sense of joy that surged within me was
indescribable. The knowledge that I wouldn't have to acclimate to an entirely
new set of students brought a comforting sense of familiarity and security.
Nonetheless, even amidst my excitement, I couldn't shake off the
lingering concerns that persisted in the recesses of my mind. What if I struggle to
effectively manage my schedule, especially considering my history of health
problems? This question loomed large, casting doubt on my abilities.
Furthermore, I pondered the potential reactions of Madam Karen if I were to
make mistakes along the way. Knowing her intellect and high expectations, the
fear of falling short of her standards gnawed at me. Additionally, I contemplated
how I would navigate my students' pressures and diverse attitudes throughout
the journey. These uncertainties continued to dance in my thoughts, challenging
my confidence.
Yet, amid these doubts, I find solace and strength in my unwavering
belief that I am not alone in this endeavor. I firmly trust that God will guide me
through any challenges that may arise. His unfailing support and understanding
will be my constant companion. I am confident that He sees the sincerity in my
heart and will provide me with the necessary guidance and grace to overcome
any obstacles. With this profound faith, I embark on my practice teaching
journey, fully committed to giving my utmost effort and dedication to becoming
an exceptional math teacher.

2. Why do I need to establish a harmonious relationship with my cooperating

teacher/s?

I need to establish a harmonious relationship with my cooperating

teacher, Ma’am Karen, as she is the one who will teach me how to handle
students with different learning styles, diversity, and attitudes. She is also
the one who will guide and facilitate me during classes, checking my daily
lesson plan and my instructional materials to be used, evaluating me
every day, and helping me to develop and improve myself. By the
experiences that I will encounter during this internship, I believe Ma’am
Karen is one of the important people who will help me bring in my
professional growth.

3. What do I need to do to get along well with the non-teaching staff?

I need to get along well with the non-teaching staff to build a harmonious
relationship and good communication to avoid misunderstandings and
problems during my internship.

My Narrative of Experience
My Analysis

Principal’s Corner

Mr. Roger A. Martinez, MITE, is the Principal IV at Tagum National

Trade School. During my encounters with him, I have noticed that he tends to be
soft-spoken. However, his warm demeanor became apparent when I greeted him in
passing. He responded with a smile and engaged in a brief conversation, to my
delight.

In a biometrics session, Sir Roger asked us about our experiences in

teaching. He showed genuine concern, asking if we were doing well and offering
words of encouragement. His words of reassurance uplifted our spirits as he
expressed his belief in our ability to complete our teaching internship. This
supportive gesture left a lasting impression on me.

There was a memorable moment when I found myself discussing one of my

morning schedule sections; then, I noticed Sir Roger paused momentarily and
observed me with a smile. In response, I cheerfully greeted him with a heartfelt
"Good morning." The fact that he recognized me and reciprocated the greeting
filled me with a deep sense of happiness and appreciation. He is so kind, not just
towards me, but he has also extended his kindness to my fellow PSTs. His genuine
concern for our well-being and his words of encouragement have fostered a
positive and supportive environment during our teaching internship.

I am genuinely grateful for my positive and joyful experiences with Sir

Roger. His kindness and belief in our potential as future educators have
significantly impacted my journey. His unwavering support is a constant source of
motivation as I continue to grow and develop as a teacher.

24
College Supervisor’s Corner

Our college supervisor is Mr. Ellvan M. Campos, MST. He supervises all

pre-service teachers assigned at Tagum National Trade School. He is an
elegant supervisor who helps and supports us in our teaching internship
journey. He also surprised us by visiting us to check on and monitor
what we were doing in our respective assigned areas.
Sir Ellvan is helpful and genuine; he messaged me that he is willing to
help print our instructional materials, lesson plans, and other printed
materials for free. I am grateful to have a supervisor like Sir Ellvan, who
is so understanding when I need to be absent because I need to go to the
hospital because of my illness. His willingness to help us melts my heart
so much. He is one of my inspirations because he is God-fearing, family-
oriented, a noble teacher, intelligent, and, most importantly, elegant.
He is the genuine aspiration of all pre-service teachers to work hard,
strives, and be strong to achieve and accomplish this internship.

Cooperating Teacher’s Corner
Cooperating Teacher’s Corner

My cooperating teacher is Mrs. Karen Grace A. Cubar, the level

head of Grade 9 and the adviser of Grade 9 Sapphire. She handled six
(6) sections (Sapphire, Opal, Pearl, Emerald, Ruby, and Onyx). During
my first day, she introduced the topics covering Quarter 3 and the
lessons I will discuss with the students each day, week, and throughout
my internship. She set the schedule for when I should finish my lesson
plans for her to check before my class. She also advises me on my lesson
plans, teaches me what is a better activity, and suggests something to
help me make a good lesson plan. I am happy because she appreciates
my activities, especially when she sees them during my class.
Every day after my class, she would tell me what I should
improve and what I was already good at. She also told me I could do
more and improve my teaching style in the long run. She always believes
I can do it and give my best, especially in my demo teaching. Being with
her for 45 days was quite a ride because I experienced many problems
and challenges, especially with the schedules. Still, I am happy because
Ma’am Karen will always cheer me on and boost my confidence. The
best experience with her is when she shows me that she is proud and
treats me right.

My Reflections

My Realizations after Meeting my Cooperating Teacher

During my first encounter with my cooperating teacher, Ma'am
Karen Grace A. Cubar, during my teaching internship, I was delighted to
discover she would be my mentor again. Having previously worked with
Ma'am Karen during my Field Studies 1 and 2, I knew she would
provide valuable guidance for my teaching internship. In fact, during
those field studies, she entrusted me with her class on occasions when
she was busy or faced emergencies. This allowed me to gain experience
in handling different students and establishing rapport, alleviating any
nervousness I may have had about reuniting with the students. Our
existing connection and good relationship put me at ease.
Ma'am Karen provided me with a file containing all the lessons to be
covered this quarter, specifying the number of studies to be discussed
each day and week and the corresponding dates. She informed me that I
had three days to prepare my first lesson plan, which I would then
submit to her for review. During these initial days, my role would be to
assist the students and facilitate the activities she had assigned.
Additionally, she assured me that she would make every effort to teach,
guide, assist, monitor, and shape me into a better teacher in the future. I
realized that Ma'am Karen intended to help me with my tasks, providing
me with practical teaching experience and mentoring.
Throughout the 45 days of my internship, I am confident that Ma'am
Karen will readily offer assistance and provide constructive feedback
should I make any mistakes. I recognize her as one of the individuals
who will significantly enhance and develop my teaching skills. I am
immensely grateful to have Ma'am Karen as my cooperating teacher
again, and I look forward to the valuable lessons and growth from our
partnership.

The First Day of my Internship
Thursday, the 23rd day of February this year, is my first day of my
internship at Tagum National Trade School. I felt happy on my first
day because I came back to my cooperating school during my field
studies 1 and 2. Tagum National Trade School is one of the biggest
public schools in Tagum City. You can feel pain in your feet when you
tour the whole school.
On my first day back in the classroom, I saw the smiling faces
of my students. They are happy to meet me again and excited to have
me as their practice teacher in mathematics. They thought that I would
not go back because it was almost three months since I left them
during my FS. It melts my heart when other students in other sections
that I am not handling or at other grade levels show respect for me.
I realized that in school I will encounter different students, and
I should accept and understand their differences and diversity. I need
to adjust myself to them, but I should always remember that I am here
to face the reality of being a teacher, so I need to teach them what is
right, not just adjust to what they are. I must also observe their
different learning styles and what teaching strategies I need to apply
in order for them to understand and learn the lesson that I will be
discussing.

My Narrative of Experience
My Analysis

36
My experiences at my cooperating school, which I consider my second
home, during my 360-hour internship hold great significance, particularly
in my students' performance. Observing their progress and witnessing
their understanding of the lessons I taught fills me with a sense of
accomplishment and motivates me to further enhance my teaching skills.
By assessing their performance on tasks and outputs, I can gauge their
level of comprehension and ensure they grasp the concepts effectively.
Seeing them actively engaged in group activities and displaying
enthusiasm when answering questions and solving problems brings me
joy.

In terms of teaching and learning, my time at the school has taught me

valuable lessons. I have learned the importance of patience in
accommodating the diverse learning styles of my students. I must be well-
informed and knowledgeable in my subject matter to effectively convey
ideas and prevent misunderstandings. Additionally, I recognize my role as
a teacher, serving as a positive role model for my students. I strive to
inspire and motivate them, knowing they look up to me for guidance and
encouragement.

My Expectations

This episode will center to my close observation to

the classroom routines performed by my cooperating teacher
and my students. To make this learning experience meaningful,
I need to record important notes during the observation, assist
my cooperating teachers in establishing/doing the classroom
routines, and extend assistance in the day’s activities.

My Directions

To get to know my cooperating school better, I must do the following tasks:

A classroom routine is a rehearsed response to an instruction given by the
teacher. Classroom routines and procedures are introduced to ensure that
children know what is expected of them and allow them to do certain things
independently. Establishing classroom routines and operations at the beginning
of the school year is essential for many reasons. One of the main reasons you will
want to introduce classroom routines is to create a secure and predictable
learning environment. Your children will feel safe and secure if they know what
to expect daily in their classroom. This is especially important for children who
are vulnerable or have additional support needs. Introducing classroom routines
reduces the possibility of student distractions and, therefore, low-level
disruptions to learning. If well-rehearsed classroom routines are in place, your
children can focus more on their knowledge. Classroom routines and procedures
also save time and ensure you maximize classroom learning time. When
introducing new classroom routines to your kids at the start of the school year,
present the most critical routines first. This could include entering/exiting the
classroom, fire bell procedures, taking attendance, etc. After introducing
essential systems, you can then introduce other classroom routines as they come
up throughout your first few days of school. This will help your children know
when they are expected to follow these routines or procedures.

My Experience in Structuring My Classroom

Structuring my classroom is tricky; you must consider your students
before implementing it. Before I start the class, I introduce the classroom rules
that must be followed. I also told them the daily routines for they to know the
flow. These implementations are not just for me but also my students.
The reason why I implemented it is that it is part of structuring my
classroom to have a smooth flow every day, to practice with the students what
they need to do every day, to inform them of their responsibilities as students and
also me as their teacher, to have a base on what they do after the following
routine, and to be aware of what will happen every day. It reminds them to be
responsible, obedient, and good students.
I realized that by having routines in the classroom, I know my role as a
teacher, and my students will also know their roles inside the school during my
class.

My Reflections

44
What are your realizations in structuring the classroom? If you will already have a
classroom in the future, how will you establish daily routines? What strategies are you
going to employ? Why is it important to establish routines?

In structuring the classroom, I have realized the various aspects that need
consideration. I must understand my role as a teacher and get to know my
students to effectively implement classroom management strategies and rules.
Students will understand their roles and responsibilities during my class by
establishing clear expectations and responsibilities within the classroom.
In the future, I aim to establish well-organized, carefully planned, and
implemented routines. These routines will benefit me as the teacher and
empower the students, as they will have the opportunity to contribute and
suggest improvements. Remembering that implementing habits is an essential
collaborative effort between teachers and students.
As part of my strategies, I recognize the need to employ appropriate
consequences for those who struggle to follow the rules and routines.
Additionally, I aspire to serve as a positive role model for my students and
motivate them to maintain an optimistic outlook, considering the challenges
students often face.
Establishing effective routines may be challenging, but it holds great importance
for teachers and students. By providing a structured flow to each class, students
will clearly understand their responsibilities within the classroom daily.

My Journey Begins with a Single Step

This learning episode centers on the first learning

activity given to me by my cooperating teacher. This gives
details of a clearer picture of the steps I have followed to
complete the tasks. This will also showcase how I did in the
preparation of instructional materials for my first activity. I will
also share the lessons learned in making my activity a success or
a failure.

My Directions

To do the tasks, I should be able to:

Listen well to the instructions of my cooperating teacher.

Prepare for the assigned tasks.

Perform the assigned tasks/activity well.

I feel I can do these tasks because I know I will follow all the things I should do,
and I must be a good listener, prepared all the time, and ready for anything in
order to do the tasks that will be given to me.

My Tasks

47
To prepare for my first activity, I will consider the PLAN, DO, CHECK, ACT

DO. This is to develop and test potential

solutions/procedures to the episode.

CHECK. This is to analyze and measure the

episode in an informal way.

ACT. This is to implement the best solutions

My Analysis

What benefits do I gain from using the PDCA Model? What makes my activity a
success or a failure? What I must do next to improve the activity.

The benefits I gained using the PDCA model are: I have listed what I need to do
for my activity task; it is a guide to do all things written and avoid forgetting
what I have to do. About my activity, it is successful for most of the sections and
fails in one section because of the noise in the surrounding area where they can
hear me. My instruction is to not do the activity right, but after the activity, they
understand the classification because I explain it carefully to them when the
noise stops.

My Narrative of Experience
My Analysis

49
MY FIRST INNOVATIVE ACTIVITY
On my third day of duty at Tagum National Trade School, I
started making a detailed lesson plan before teaching in my class,
especially for my first activity. My cooperating teacher told me I would
facilitate and assist students with the exercises she gave them for a
week, so I last tried teaching the class a week ago. So, my first week is
planning and making a detailed lesson plan for next week's class.
The activity of my cooperating teacher is more pen and paper
and individual training. As I observed, students are friendly and have a
good relationship with their classmates. So, I plan to make my first
activity a group activity where they can communicate and help each
other. This activity will show the collaboration and cooperation of each
group in answering the movement.
All six of my sections have the same number of groups. The
class is divided into four groups. I arrange their seating plan according
to their group number and groupmates so they can easily communicate
with their groupmates during the group activity and form a circle.
My first activity is all about parallelograms; each group will classify
the images flashing on the screen as parallelograms or not. They will
just put the number corresponding to the image on the two columns
provided on the board. The first column is a parallelogram, and the
second is not. The numbers will be given in each group, and the table
will be posted on the board.
When this activity applied to my class, I saw my students
seriously sharing their answers with their groupmates and analyzing
whether those images were parallelograms. Some of my students asked
me after checking why some photos belong to parallelograms, and
some do not. With that, I know that they want to know better and
answer the question in their minds. The eagerness to learn has been
shown, as has the will to understand the lesson.

My Tasks

I will define lesson plans and show the different types.

 Definitions of Lesson Plans

54
A lesson plan is the content outline of a teacher's step-by-step lesson and a
teacher’s guide for teaching his or her lesson every day. It contains learning
objectives for the learners at the end of the lesson, goals to be achieved,
and assessments to evaluate and measure the understanding of the
students.

 Types of Lesson Plans

 Detailed Lesson Plan
- Exact steps to teach the lesson and conversations of question
and answer between the teacher and students.
 Semi-detailed Lesson Plan
- Less detailed but it covers the subject matter and lesson.
 4As Lesson Plan
- The lesson plan consists of activity, analysis, abstraction, and
application parts, but there is no student’s activity or response.

Schools vary in lesson plan format.

In this space, present a screenshot or scanned copy of the lesson plan format required
by your cooperating school. Confer with your cooperating teacher on how to go about
the template to guide you in making the plan.

In here, I will present my first

lesson plan. (A lesson plan with comments or correction is preferred.)

I. MY THOUGHTS ON WRITING MY FIRST LESSON PLAN

It is not easy to write a lesson, and that was one of my thoughts in

writing my first lesson plan. Thinking about what learning objectives
should be achieved by the students at the end of the lesson, what
activities to apply that align with the lesson, and how to follow up
with analysis I need to be prepared, and it is important to set clear
goals to ensure that I cover the lesson with relevant information.

II. AREAS OF THE PLAN THAT I FIND IT EASY TO WRITE

The areas that I find easy to write about are the activity and
application parts because I innovate the activities that I encountered
with my previous teachers and professors that I know can enhance
the collaboration and cooperation of the students with their groups
and build a good relationship with their classmates. In application, I
like making group and individual quizzes that I know they can
answer easily if they really listen and understand my discussion.

III. AREAS OF THE PLAN THAT I FIND CHALLENGING TO WRITE

The areas of the plan that I find challenging to write are the
abstraction and assessment because I am not good at proving them,
which is why it is hard for me to make a lesson in the abstraction
part. It also makes me challenging in the assessment part because I

57
don’t know how to apply the proof in their test that students can
answer based on the learning they get from my discussion.

experience. I grappled with determining the appropriate verbs to use for
cognitive, affective, and psychomotor learning objectives and ensuring that
my students could achieve these objectives by the end of the lesson. It wasn't
straightforward to balance providing relevant information in the abstraction
section that students could quickly grasp and ensuring that the content was
time-bound. Additionally, deciding on the type of group quiz for application
and a multiple-choice quiz for assessment posed its own set of challenges, as I
wanted to accurately measure my students' understanding.
I submitted my lesson plan to my cooperating teacher for review to
alleviate my uncertainties. She provided valuable feedback, pointing out areas
that needed revision or improvement or where I had performed well. Her
guidance and instructions were instrumental in helping me understand what
needed to be done. I appreciated her support and encouragement, especially
when she expressed satisfaction with certain aspects of my lesson plan. In the
revision process, I diligently incorporated her comments and suggestions,
making necessary changes and enhancing areas that required improvement.
Furthermore, my cooperating teacher emphasized the difficulty of teaching
the concept of proof to students, prompting me to search for online resources
and examples that students could easily comprehend and providing ample
opportunities for them to practice applying the concept during class
discussions.
Undoubtedly, creating a lesson plan is a challenging feat. It requires
careful thought, practice, and setting clear goals. I completed my lesson plan
well in advance, allowing ample time for review and revision before the class
commenced. This approach helped build my confidence as I stepped into the
role of teacher, armed with a well-structured plan that served as a reliable
guide throughout the lesson.

My Reflections

58
As a teacher, I need to prepare a lesson plan so that I have a guide or
outline of my lesson for every day and have steps to be followed. I need to
prepare to set goals and make learning objectives consist of CAP (cognitive,
affective, and psychomotor), and I need to be knowledgeable about the lesson
that I will be teaching to my students to convey the correct ideas and thoughts. I
realized that I needed to prepare my lesson plan in order to have an activity that
would motivate and inspire my students and that they could learn and enjoy. I
need to be prepared in order to familiarize myself with the flow of my subject
matter and finish on time.

My Instructional Materials

This learning episode will enable me to explore

the wonders and significance of instructional materials to enrich
the teaching-learning process. I will experience preparing
instructional materials for my instruction to further demonstrate
my creativity and resourcefulness as a future teacher. I will also
grab the opportunity to take snapshots of varied instructional
materials used by my colleagues and other teachers in my
cooperating school.

My Directions

To reach my targets, I need to:

P repare the materials needed.

D esign the instructional materials.

C reate using cost-effective materials.

61
My Tasks

I will go to the library and interview the librarian on what instructional materials used
in my cooperating schools.
These are the different instructional materials available in my cooperating school.
Print materials:
The printed materials are books, learner’s materials, and other
reading materials.
Non-Print Materials:
The non-printed materials are boxes of bond paper, manila paper,
and flashcards.
Electronic Materials:
The electronic materials are a television, printer, and xerox/
photocopy machine.
In the table below I will list all the instructional materials I used in all the lessons
conducted in my classroom.

I will write here the factors that affect my choice of Instructional Materials.
The factors that affect my choice of instructional materials are not having
enough money to buy the materials that I needed, the availability of printers in
the faculty, the number of students in the printer shop, and a lack of skills in
computer literacy.
The characteristics of effective instructional materials are: allocating
enough budget for materials; knowing to explore when it comes to the computer;
having enough time and vacant time to print all the materials.

My Analysis
My Analysis

In preparing my instructional materials, I realized that:

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS MUST BE aligned with the activity that
students will be performing. I must be prepared with all the materials needed to
make instructional materials. I must be knowledgeable enough about what
intrusive materials I should make that can help students understand the
activities and the lesson.

I NEED TO PREPARE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS SO THAT I have

materials to be used in teaching students and also for my students’ materials
during group or individual activities. I need to prepare to avoid cramming and
stress because I already experienced that feeling that I am not prepared because
the day before the class I was sick and needed to rest, so I did not do my
instructional materials for that particular day, and it is not easy to cram when it
comes to instructional materials because the more you work fast, the more you
make mistakes, and it takes another time to do it again, which is why it is
stressful. So, it must be prepared all the time to avoid these circumstances.

63
My Narrative of Experience
My Analysis

MY CREATIVE SIDE APPEARS

Instructional materials are important because they can help the teaching-
learning process. Planning to make instructional materials based on the activity and
lesson in the lesson plan is not easy because you always consider the materials
needed, but as a creative person, I want to have innovative materials to make
instructional materials that will get the attention of my students and make them
appreciate their usefulness.
In writing, I just write all the things that I planned, but sometimes I add
something to the plan that I contextualize because sometimes an idea will flash to
my mind that is better if I add more colors or materials.
Using the instructional materials has a great impact on the students; they
can see clearly in front of me while I am using them and are more effective when
they are the ones using them. Using instructional materials shows how creative I
am and lets me express what I want to do by creating those materials.
In addition, instructional materials help students to listen to my discussion,
participate during group activities, catch their attention during oral recitation, and
not feel bored during my math class. We all know that many students do not love
math because it is boring, but because of instructional materials, they show
interest. I always say to myself that my sleepless night is worth it because they
listened to me and understood the lesson.

My Reflections

In here, I will ask my cooperating teacher to rate my instructional materials I prepared

in the classroom. I will use this scale in rating my instructional materials.

Recognizing the importance of creating and implementing effective

instructional materials in my class, I understood the need to put considerable
thought and effort into this aspect of teaching. It became clear to me that I had
to consider the suitability of the materials for my students, ensuring that they
were aligned with my instructional objectives while also capturing their interest.
Additionally, I realized the significance of choosing neutral colors for the
materials, enabling all students, regardless of their proximity to the visuals, to
appreciate and engage with them.

My First Assessment tool

This learning episode will highlight my

preparation with my first assessment tool governed by the rules
on constructing test. This will also showcase how I will improve
the test based on the suggestions of my Cooperating Teacher.

My Directions

My Tasks

69
To give me bright ideas in preparing my first assessment tool, I shall be guided by
important concepts. Hence, I need to answer the following questions.
1. Where can I seek help to prepare my first assessment tools?
I will seek assistance from my cooperating teacher because I know she can
help me. I will visit the library to find samples of assessment tools, as well
as on the Internet.

2. After my research, here are the points I learned to remember in preparing my

tests.
 Learning Objectives should be CAP (Cognitive, Affective,
Psychomotor) and SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable,
Reliable, Time-bounded)
 Nature of learners- student’s knowledge and intelligence
 Type of test to prepare- Diagnostic, formative, and summative tests
 Number of items- 5 to 15 items
 Level of difficulty- from easy to difficult
 Key to correction- format of a test

3. The Following are the Types of Tests.

 Diagnostic Test- It measures the knowledge and skills of a student. It
is used to identify the weaknesses and strengths in past and present
learning.

 Formative Test- to monitor student learning to provide ongoing feedback

that can be used by instructors to improve their teaching and by students to
improve their learning.

 Summative Test- to evaluate student learning, skill acquisition, and

academic achievement at the conclusion of a defined instructional period.

1. We need Assessment Tools because they measure the students’ knowledge,

skills, and abilities based on what they have learned. It also measures the

written performance of the students and their progress. It guides the

teacher to identify the weaknesses and strengths of the students in order

to determine if they are effective teachers.

2. In preparing my first Assessment Tool, I need the following things like the
learning objectives that should be CAP (cognitive, affective, and
psychomotor) and SMART (specific, measurably achievable, reliable, and
time-bound) because learning objectives are one of the important aspects
of utilizing tests. We test not just for grades but also to measure the
knowledge, skills, and abilities gained during discussion that they can use
in their daily lives and in real-life situations.

My Narrative of Experience
My Analysis
On my first planning for my lesson plan, I decided in my assessment part to do a multiple
choice to be easily answered by the students and less time-consuming. I always pass my
lesson to my cooperating teacher before class to check if it is correct. She always helps
me with everything, especially my assessment. Every day after my lesson, I will do a
group quiz so that everybody can share their ideas and understanding of my lesson with
their groupmates so that in the assessment test individually, they will know how to solve
or answer the multiple-choice questions.

I always prepare my PowerPoint presentation in my class, and I always include my

assessment test in the last part. I haven’t tried to print out my assessment test because
my cooperating teacher suggested that if I do an assessment test or other test, the
students should write their answers in their activity notebook and put their scores in
their respective table of contents to easily record the scores.

Designing/Structuring the Classroom and

Bulletin Boards

In this episode, I should be able to design the

classroom bulletin boards or instructional boards that will
appropriately align the designs with the lessons/activities of my
class. In doing these, I will make sure to closely work well with
my cooperating teacher.

My Directions

To reach my goals, I need to do the following using this acronym.

B egin with a theme.

O rganize ideas on what to place on the bulletin board.

A rrange your ideas in creative and artistic ways.

R ecreate ideas using illustrations/ design/figures and colors.

D esign the classroom bulletin board.

77
My Directions

I will post here the bulletin board I designed and the classroom that I
structured. Also, I will include posting here the bulletin boards that struck me
most in my cooperating school.

78
Observing the varied bulletin boards in my cooperating school, I feel that
the following areas can still be improved: if the materials that can be used are
good and can’t be easily destroyed by the students who pass in the hallway or at
the back of the classroom; if the bulletin board is covered with plastic
cellophane; if there is a budget cover with sliding glass so that it catches the
attention of the students because it is new to their eyes; if the text should be
visible; and if the design is colorful because students like it.
Bulletin boards are made for the purpose of posting the activities every
month in the school, the school calendar, announcements, displaying the
students' works, school memoranda, and relaying information for everyone.

My Narrative of Experience
My Analysis

Bulletin Boards Experience

Bulletin boards are one of the most critical components in the classroom, especially in
schools. It can be utilized to inspire student thinking and preserve student work and
ideas, in addition to beautifying the classroom. Display charts and posters throughout
the class to help students remember their lessons. In my structuring or designing a
classroom, I posted quotes to inspire students, information and announcements,
reminders that they need to know and be aware of, promoted no to cyberbullying, yes
to sports, and build good relationships with peers, and helped students cope with their
sadness and problems to My avoidAnalysis
stress and depression that could cause suicide for the
students. Nowadays, we all know that many students commit suicide because of
anxiety and depression.
My Analysis
I first did print all the materials needed for designing bulletin boards, cut them out, and
covered them with scotch tape and cellophane. Post and paste using stick glue. I also
pasted again those tarpaulins that fell from the walls. I also paste a whiteboard on the
bulletin board with a question at the top, "How do you feel today?" to check what my
student or all students feel. Most of the pictures that have been posted are all about
promotion. In addition, creating bulletin boards engages students in educational
learning.

My Reflections

1.) As a student teacher, I need to learn how to structure bulletin boards

so that if I become a teacher in God’s will and grace, I can
construct and structure my bulletin boards properly and usefully.

79
I believe that bulletin boards are important in a classroom and in
a school because they relay information for everyone and can
help students be aware of what will happen every month or in a
year in the classroom based on the announcements and school
calendar attached to the bulletin boards.

2.) What lessons did I learn when structuring/designing my bulletin

boards?

In structuring or designing my bulletin boards, I learned that it is

quite hard because there are many materials needed and you
need to put some information that is true or factual. But, despite
that, I love designing, especially if there are a lot of materials
provided and used in creating the bulletin boards with ample
time. In addition, I learned that structuring and designing
bulletin boards requires preparation and planning. Place the
bulletin boards where many students and other people can see
and recognize them; be creative and attention-grabbing in the
design; the text should be visible; and it can add beauty inside the
classroom.

Teamwork in doing school activities is vital for each of the students
because it will help them communicate with others, improve their different skills
(social, communication, and collaboration) and self-confidence, and help them
develop into an enjoyable and happier high school life. Teamwork also teaches
them important skills and life lessons, but like any other skill, having a good
teacher is a critical aspect of the process. It also promotes students’ learning and
achievement.
I shall complete the episodal web to show the steps I performed in doing the task.

My Analysis
1.
My Analysis
Why do I need to participate in school activities?
I need to participate in school activities because, as a practice
teacher or pre-service teacher at Tagum National Trade School, it is
part of my duty and responsibility to participate in helping the
school, and I am willing all the time when it comes to the school’s
development and improvement. I encourage my students to
participate in any school activities and enjoy their high school life;
engage themselves in any reactional activities to boost their self-
confidence and show everyone their different skills; help my
cooperating teacher give suggestions and advice to the students for
any school activities to make them feel that we are always supporting
them; and help them to realize many things when they do their part
in performing.

2. What insights did I gain after joining the school activities?

 The insights I gained after joining the school activities are:
 give support to the students in any school activities they will
join;
 boost their confidence and help them;
 socialize with other pre-service teachers in other schools and
good people;
 practice myself on how to become a tabulator;
 deal with other students as I enter every room;
 expose students outside the four walls of the classroom and
show their skills inside the school; and
 lessons in becoming a better teacher someday.

School Activities Experiences

My schedule is so tiring from Monday to Thursday because I am loaded, but at

the end of the week, on Friday, I only have one class and am free. One time, while
making my lesson plan for the next week's lessons, my cooperating teacher, Ma'am
Karen, messaged me that I should go to the faculty and approach Ma'am Xy-za, one of
the grade 9 teachers, because she needed me. When I arrived at the faculty, she told
me I would be one of the judges in evaluating the WINS corners in Grade 9 rooms. We
will start at precisely 1 pm, and after that, I will tabulate the scores of my ratings and
those of other pre-service teachers and announce who will be the winners. They have
WINS Corner to maintain the proper hygiene of the students. I also became a tabulator
for the festival dance competition, and I am happy to see my students dancing and
doing their best to get higher scores for their performance tasks.

I also experienced earthquake drills and fire drills inside the school, giving
some advice to my students on what the right thing to do was. Lastly, I join the open
forum activity in my advisory every month to check the students' relationships with
their peers and allow them to share their problems inside the school. In addition, I am
grateful to have joined different school activities at Tagum National Trade School. I
forgot some of it, but the experiences I have shared for activities I joined are enough
because I learned something and helped my students. I am so thankful to my
cooperating school and teacher for teaching and molding me so much to become a
better teacher soon. I will cherish the knowledge and experiences imparted they
imparted to me.

My Reflections

Complete the statement.

After the activity, I learned that school activities are another way of sharing
what you know with the students, acquiring insights into what you need to know,

87
and adjusting to your lapses. School activities encourage students to show their
different skills to everyone, activate students to learn beyond the four walls of
the classroom, and develop their strengths. Through these activities, they will
communicate with others, build good relationships, support each other, and help
in many ways. In addition, students could also show what they learned through
school activities. Thus, the main goal of the school's activities is to develop and
improve every student's potential.

My cooperating teacher was also supporting her advisory and other students.

She also told me that, as much as possible, I would show the students that I
would also help them to give their best in any school activities and make me and
other teachers proud of them. She also provided feedback on what I had done.
She also gave positive feedback on how I give advice and suggest things for the
students, helping them as much as possible. She also sees how devoted I am to my
duties and responsibilities and how sincere I am to the students. She told me that
building a good relationship with my students makes it hard for me to leave
them during my last duty.

1. Doing other non-teaching duties is beneficial in my life as a student intern

because I experienced other duties besides teaching the students. I
encountered and communicated with others. Socialize with other subject
teachers and other grade level students. With these experiences, I have
built good relationships with teachers, students, and other non-teaching
staff.

2. These are the values/virtues I have developed/strengthened when I rendered

other non-teaching duties:
 I know how to evaluate and rate the cleanliness, creativity, and
completeness of hygiene kits and other kits in the WINS (wash in school)
corner in each section of Grade 9.
 I became a tabulator really quick because one of the math teachers asked
me for help as the Mapeh teachers announced the winners after
performing.
 I learned to take the initiative to clean the classroom, wash the curtains
and other things that need to be cleaned, and water the plants and
flowers.
 I became more responsible and helpful.

93
My Narrative of Experience
My Analysis

New Experiences

Early in the morning, when I arrived at the school, I was the only one staying in
the classroom because the first and second periods were TVE classes for my students.
My cooperating teacher is staying in the faculty room, and she told me that I am the
one staying in the classroom to monitor the students and practice myself as soon as I
become a teacher that handles advisory or students. While waiting for my students, I
clean the classroom as much as possible, watering my cooperating teacher’s plants and
flowers and arranging and organizing her books in reading corners with hexagonal
bookshelves.
From Monday to Thursday is my busy schedule, but every Friday, I am available
for how many hours because I only have one section? So, some of the teachers asked
me to be one of the judges to evaluate and rate the WINS (wash in school) corner of
each section of grade 9. One of the math teachers told me that after giving the rating, I
would tabulate the scores and rank the teams from highest to lowest. I am happy that
my advisory ranked 2 in the cleanliness and organization corner.
Rendering services is quite tiring, but I am enjoying my willingness to help and
make the classroom beautiful.

My Reflections

After rendering my services in Math Room, I learned these skills:

 I learned to design the walls of the classroom
 Arrange and organize the reading corner and WINS (wash in school)
corner
 I learned to handle different students
 Be innovative and more creative
And I know that these will be important and useful in the field of teaching
because these skills that I acquired can be utilized in teaching students how to be
creative and innovative in many ways. Know how to manage their time and
maintain cleanliness because I believe in the phrase that “Cleanliness is next to
Godliness”. Practice and teach them to be organized and responsible.

My Analysis
My Analysis

I will answer the following questions.

1. What went well in my lesson? Why?

From the first day until my last day of discussion of my lessons, I

believe the class went well. They were able to gain knowledge
about all the lessons in geometry and the introduction of the
lesson about trigonometry. They enjoyed my activities, both
group and individual; they could answer my questions in oral
recitations; and they got perfect scores in my assessment quiz.

2. What did not go well? Why?

So far, everything has fallen into place, even though some

students show their true attitudes (misbehavior, inattention,
going out in the classroom, etc.), because there are more students
who are willing to learn and serious. I manage my class all the
time.

3. What did my students learn?

They do their part to listen to my discussion, do the group

activities, and pay attention all the time. They have time to apply
their understanding by solving the problems and sharing with the
class how they do it.

4. What was learned about planning?

What I learned about planning is that it can help me not

procrastinate and stay calm. I know planning is not easy, but
doing it helps me a lot to know what I need to do step by step.

5. What was learned about teaching?

I learned that teaching is indeed a noble profession. I was able to

witness it through my experience on this internship journey. Even
though I have many responsibilities and duties, I am still doing
my best to help students learn, despite the many challenges I have

99
encountered. I am not just teaching students but also inspiring
them to study hard.

6. What improvements will I make to be more effective in my class?

I need to be sensitive to the feelings of my students because

sometimes I think when I discuss and add some personal
experience, some students cannot absorb it, and I think they feel
bad about it. I also need to become more patient with the
students’ behavior, but I will not tolerate it; I will teach them what
is right. Be more knowledgeable in any lessons of mathematics so
I can teach students more. Do interactive learning to avoid
boredom among the students because mathematics is one of the
subjects that they cannot easily love.

Explain your Rating:

100
I am rating my first demonstration teaching as SATISFACTORY because I
feel nervous from the start to the end, but I still give my best to deliver my
first demonstration well. I will rate myself a 3 for meeting expectations
because, based on the rating and comment of my cooperating teacher, I may
not be so confident and make mistakes, but my performance still meets her
expectations and set standards. Indeed, I perform my next to last
demonstration very well.

My Narrative of Experience
My Analysis
Demonstration Teaching Experiences

I prepared so much in my first demonstration, but my cooperating teacher was absent,

so I prepared another instructional material for tomorrow's lesson plan because she was
absent. I also prepared my lesson plan to give to my cooperating teacher to sign, but
sadly, she is still missing. So, I decided not to do my demonstration this week and make
a lesson plan for next week. My cooperating teacher felt sorry. She couldn't rate me for
my demonstration because she was absent, but I had no choice but to try again for
another lesson plan and instructional materials. But it will be two weeks before I
perform my first demonstration. It was the last week of March, and I prepared so much
for my lesson plans for that week because I planned to finish my first to third
demonstrations that week. I often told my cooperating teacher that I would do my first
demonstration and other demonstrations by Monday. Finally, that week I performed my
three demonstrations with an outstanding rating. I am happy because all my sleepless
nights and effort paid off. The positive comments of my cooperating teacher also
inspired me.

My Reflections

1. After the demonstration lessons, I felt so happy because, finally, I’m done.
My demonstrations always went well. My cooperating teacher always
rated me outstanding from the first to the fifth demonstration, but I got
perfect in my last demonstration. I always felt nervous before my
demonstration, but I am happy that God will always help me to be calm
and confident.

101
2. After my demonstration I realized that all my sleepless nights and effects
would pay off if I did my best during my demonstration. I realized that it
is not easy to become a teacher, especially when my schedule is hectic
every day. I also realized that I need to be aware of my actions and be
careful of the words that I speak because I am the role model for my
students. Lastly, I realized that even though I am tired, it makes me
happy when students learn from what I have discussed and have the
aspiration to study hard.

3. Things I learned from my learners.

 appreciate them always because they want attention;
 beware of what I say and act;
 be patient and calm;
 sensitive to the feelings of my student because they are diverse with
different characteristics and personality; and
 be good every day.

?
Abstraction (15 minutes)
Our topic for today is ssolving
problems involving the six
trigonometric ratios.

Can you read our learning objective

for today everyone!

At the end of the lesson, I am

expected to:
 find the values of the 6
trigonometric ratios given
the sides of a right triangle;
 solve using the formula for
the missing parts of a right
triangle; and
 apply the six trigonometric
ratios in real life.

A right triangle is a triangle in which

one angle is a right angle. The
relationship between the sides and
angles of a right triangle is the basis
for trigonometry. Trigonometric ratios
are used in solving or finding the
missing sides or angles of a right
triangle.

112
I think all of you memorize the six
trigonometric ratios. Now we will find
the values of the 6 trigonometric
ratios given the sides of a right
triangle.
Example:

Yes, Ma’am.

None, Ma’am.

Do you understand?

Any questions?

Okay now we will proceed to find the

remaining trigonometric ratio given
one trigonometric ratio.
Example:

113
opposite 3
Given: tanθ = = , where
adjacent 4
a=3, b=4
To solve the remaining ratios, we
need to find first the missing value of
c or the hypotenuse side. We need to
use the Pythagorean theorem
formula.
c2= a2+b2
Solution:
c2= 32+42
c2= 9+16
c2= 25 Yes, Ma’am.
c=√ 25
c= 5 None, Ma’am.
So, c=5. Therefore, hypotenuse is 5.

Do you understand?

Any questions?

Okay now we will proceed to

identifies the formula for the missing
parts of a right triangle.
Example:
Find the missing part of a triangle
with a given measurement of one leg
and hypotenuse. Find p and ∠U as
marked angle.
Yes, Ma’am.

REFLECTION ON THE PHILIPPINE PROFESSIONAL

STANDARDS FOR TEACHERS DOMAINS

120
The Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST) serve as a guidepost for
Filipino educators, articulating the competencies and ethical standards required for
effective teaching. As a pre-service teacher, I've considered the PPST domains and
how they have influenced my teaching practice. In this essay, I will reflect on my
thoughts on the PPST domains and how they have influenced my professional
development.

The first domain emphasizes the teacher's commitment to fostering a positive and
inclusive learning environment. Establishing social esteem for learning is about more
than just conveying knowledge; it is also about recognizing each student's identities
and experiences. I can inspire my students to actively participate in their learning path
by creating a secure and supportive classroom atmosphere.

The second domain highlights the teacher's role in creating a conducive learning
environment that stimulates curiosity, critical thinking, and active participation.
Designing learner-centered lessons that encourage collaboration, problem-solving,
and independent thinking is essential.

The third domain highlights the teacher's responsibility to provide equitable

opportunities for all students to succeed. I realize embracing diversity requires
adapting my instructional methods, providing appropriate support, and creating an
inclusive curriculum.

The fourth domain emphasizes using various assessment strategies to monitor student
progress and inform instructional decision-making. I understand the significance of
carefully planning and designing lessons that promote meaningful learning
experiences.

The fifth domain uses assessment data to guide instructional practices and support
students' growth. The value of employing diverse assessment methods, such as
portfolios, projects, and self-assessment, to holistically evaluate student performance.

The sixth and seventh domains of the PPST have deepened my understanding of the
multifaceted nature of the teaching profession. They have taught me that being an
effective educator goes beyond imparting knowledge in the classroom. It entails a
commitment to lifelong learning, personal growth, and community service.

Reflecting on the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers Domains has

broadened my knowledge of educators' diverse roles in the Philippines. The PPST
domains emphasize building inclusive learning environments, valuing diversity, and
encouraging ongoing professional development. As I begin my teaching career, I am
determined to embrace and incorporate these domains into my practice. Following the
PPST, I want to become an effective and compassionate teacher who fosters my
students' overall growth and positively contributes to the Philippine educational scene.

CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED AND COPING STRATEGIES

121
During my teaching internship at Tagum National Trade School, I encountered
various challenges that tested my resilience and adaptability. From disruptive
construction noise to classroom management issues, I navigated through these
obstacles with the help of coping strategies and a steadfast belief in the power of faith.
Join me as I recount my experiences and the plans, I employed to overcome these
challenges.

One of the significant challenges I faced was the proximity of the Grade 9 classroom
building to the nearby construction site and Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC)
hospital. The noise generated by the construction often disrupted the learning
environment, making it difficult for students to hear lectures, including my own.
Despite using lapel microphones, the loud machinery drowned out my voice. To
address this issue, I employed alternative educational resources, such as visual aids
and written materials, ensuring that students could still grasp the content even if they
couldn't hear me.

With a packed schedule from Monday to Thursday, moving between different

classrooms became physically challenging, particularly while wearing heels. This
issue was exacerbated by the limited time for relaxation between lessons, leaving me
exhausted and impacting my overall well-being, especially considering my health
issues. I implemented breathing exercises to cope with these demands, focusing on
inhalation and exhalation to relax and regain composure during or after classes. These
moments of mindfulness helped me alleviate stress and recharge, enabling me to face
the subsequent lessons with renewed energy.

Managing student conduct, mainly during discussions, posed another significant

challenge. In-class disruptions and student conflicts often derailed the lesson flow and
hindered effective teaching. To address this issue, I implemented strategies to
establish clear ground rules and expectations for student behavior. I consistently
reminded students of their responsibilities as active participants and emphasized the
importance of respectful engagement. Additionally, I provided individual feedback
and guidance to students after the lesson to help them recognize the need for
improved classroom conduct and redirect their focus toward learning and knowledge
advancement.

Throughout these challenges, I drew strength from my unwavering faith. Entrusting

my difficulties to a higher power, I found solace in knowing that there is a greater
force capable of guiding and supporting me through adversity. This perspective
helped me maintain a positive outlook and approach challenges with resilience and
determination.

My teaching internship journey at Tagum National Trade School was challenging.

However, I successfully navigated the obstacles that arose by employing effective
coping strategies such as alternative resources, breathing exercises, classroom
management techniques, and a reliance on faith. These experiences have shaped me
into a more adaptable and resilient educator, reinforcing my commitment to providing
the best learning environment for my students.

122
