Lesson Idea:

Grade Level: 5th Grade

Subject Area: Science
In my proposed fifth-grade science class, I want to make use of PearDeck, a flexible
Web 2.0 tool for interactive online boards. Students will contribute actively by discussing and
asking questions on ecosystems using PearDeck's interactive slides.
In this lesson, we will use the PearDeck communication and collaboration tool along
with the student response/assessment tool to enhance student learning and engagement in
a science lesson on ecosystems. The purpose of this lesson is to explore the concept of
ecosystems and the interdependence of living organisms within them.
Communication and Collaboration:
Using PearDeck, students will actively participate in the lesson by responding to
interactive slides. They will be able to share their thoughts, ideas, and questions related to
ecosystems. PearDeck allows for real-time collaboration, as students can view and respond
to each other's contributions. Additionally, students can engage in group discussions and
brainstorming activities, promoting peer-to-peer communication and collaboration.
Assessment and Follow-up Instruction:
Throughout the lesson, I will use the student response/assessment tool within
PearDeck to gauge student understanding. This tool enables me to pose multiple-choice or
open-ended questions to assess comprehension and identify any misconceptions. I will
analyze the data collected from the student responses to inform my instruction and address
any areas of misunderstanding. Based on the assessment results, I will provide targeted
feedback and plan follow-up activities to reinforce key concepts and promote deeper
learning.
Invitation:
I invite you to view my artifact and lesson idea, where you can explore the interactive
PearDeck presentation and see how communication and collaboration are facilitated through
the tool. The lesson idea provides a comprehensive overview of how this technology can
enhance student engagement and support assessment for learning in the context of
studying ecosystems.
