Definition:
We use the simple past to express the idea that an action started and finished at specific
time in the past.

Where did David go yesterday?

Peter: Hey! Why are you sad?

Camille: Because my mobile phone stopped working and now, I can’t read my messages.
Peter: People didn’t have instant messaging in the past, and they survived.
Camille: Yes, they wrote letters by hand, sent them by mail and waited for ages to get a response.
Peter: I know you are upset. Let’s go to the cultural centre this afternoon. There is an exhibition of
old technologies.
Peter: David went to the exhibition yesterday. There were a lot of old objects. He saw a telephone
from the 80s!
Camille: Were there phones at that time?
Peter: Of course, there were!
Camille: Did he like the exhibition?
Peter: Yes, he did. But he didn’t have time to see all the objects displayed.
Camille: It sounds great! Let’s go there this afternoon!
