1. Determine the objectives of the writing test - identify the grammatical and verbal
errors in sentences, construct new sentences according to original sentences or suggested
words/phrases
2. Design the test matrix and test specification - make sure that the test matrix is clear
and easy to follow:
+ Determine the test format: objective and subjective questions
3
+ Three awareness levels based on levels of students, questions, and vocabulary:
recognition, understanding, and application
+ Choose writing exercises that are suitable for the objectives of the test: error
identification, sentence transformation, and sentence building
+ Caculate:
- Percentages of the exercises: Error identification: Sentence transformation: Sentence
building = 40:26,7:33,3.
- Total the number of questions for each exercise = 5:5:5
- Total marks of each exercise:...
- Number of questions for each awareness level column, and sufficient time for each
exercise.
- Percentage of the total number of questions distributed for each column.
3. Design the questions:
+ Create the questions based on the test objectives and the selected format.
+ Make sure the questions are clear, concise, and unambiguous.
4. Build answer keys
