a. Show the meaning of the structure
Lead – in:
- T gives Ss the reading text below / T gives Ss the situation about the
structure
T gives a text: “Currently, I am a teacher. I've had this dream since I was
little. I used to study very hard. My parents made me study to be a doctor.
But I chose my dream to become a teacher. I used to run away from
home. I used to fall asleep because I studied too much. But it didn't stop
my dream. And the fact that, “used to” help me overcome barriers. And it
is no longer the fact that I am a teacher.”
- T write on the board one example from the text in order to introduce
the structure in contexts.
T write: “I used to study very hard”
- T ask Ss to find other occurrences of the same pattern (structure).
Ss write the answer on the board
- T introduces the lesson
T say: Today, we’re going to learn about the structure: “Used to”.
Present meaning:
- The teacher shows the meaning of the structure: “Used to” by giving
students a dialogue and ask some questions to check their
understanding.
T: Now class, listen me. Do you know what time the sentences you just
chose cam from? You can choose: Past, present, or furure.
Ss: Past
T: Yes, you right! This time is past.
- The teacher says the structure and writes them on the board, then
underlines the “fixed” part of the structure.

T: We use this structure to talk about an event that happened in the past
and is finished in the present / a habit in the past and not maintained in
the present.

- Instruction: I say some words. Use the words in the structure: “I + Used
to + … + with my friend”

2. Meaningful practice:
- Name: Deciding what to say
- Instruction T: Say sentences that are suitable for each situation using “I

- T ask Ss close the book and listen the audio. Then T ask Ss predict the title
of the lesson through the content of the audio.

- T play the audio two times and then gives their 2 minute to think about
the answer.

2. Teach the word “Presure”
- Show the meaning of the word through a situation of the audio.
